Vero Moderno Kaleidoscope V-Neck Dress

Our virtual extremities have gone through some extreme changes in recent years. Shoemakers responded to the deficiencies of the avatar mesh by creating sculpted feet with shoes that we could match to our skins. The tinting methods designers employed were varied and highly idiosyncratic and tinting a pair of shoes to match could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes, depending on our skill and the sophistication of the HUD interface. This year, with mesh rigged to fit perfectly, a few designers have taken steps to ease our pain and make our desperate clicking about in color selection boxes and frantic sliding of RGB numbers a thing of the past. Because the path of innovation is never straight, two different routes were chosen, but whichever one you take, you end up with gorgeous shoes and skin that matches.

In exploring the pros and cons of these two paths, I am going to look at Gos shoes and SLink Bare Feet with add-on shoes from another vendor. However, N-Core is also following the same path as Gos and I am sure some other shoe-makers will as well. The thing is, these are fundamentally different approaches to how to match the foot to your skins. Gospel Voom of Gos has chosen to provide the foot and shoes as one piece, the traditional way. His innovation is creating a skin color database and a scripted hud that accesses that data and applies it directly to the foot. Siddean Munro of Slink has taken another road, creating a foot that can be tinted and a free developer’s kit for skinners to customize for their skins and allowing shoemakers to use to make their own shoes to her form.

I only have eyes for you

jun21_003

A couple weeks ago, I checked out the Billboard Jazz charts and discovered the new-to-me vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant and fell instantly in love. I hope I can persuade you to take a listen. She reminds me of Billie Holliday, more so than any other jazz singer. I watched her performance of the old standard I Only Have Eyes For You – with her unique interpretation. I hope you check her out on iTunes or YouTube. You won’t be disappointed.

This top from Goucci makes me feel very jazzy all by itself. It has a classic Chanel-inspired shape and aesthetic. Everyone will have eyes only for you if you wear it. It comes in red, blue, yellow and black. I paired with some black and white striped pants from Coco that are truly hot jazz in fabric.

Pink

Countdown has a new cocktail dress with a snug strapless snakeskin bodice and a frothy, sheer full skirt. It is the perfect marriage of modern and traditional, hard and soft. I decided to tip the scales a bit adding a short, cropped white leather jacket from Coco.  Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: Jun 19

Fast Five Today’s Fast Five include a loving tribute to an SL® original who died recently. That reminds me that it may be worthwhile to make advance arrangements such as disposing of virtual assets in your will and providing instructions to Linden Lab to inform your friends.

  1. Cecilia Delacroix – A Tribute: Melusina Parkin has written and photographed a loving memorial to the work of Cecelia Delacroix in Second Life. Her contributions to art in SL were many and she will be widely missed. Please read the post and follow the SLurls so you can appreciate much of what she has given to the community.
  2. Stripped: Kitty Wytchwood noticed that she is wearing fewer and fewer clothes recently and contemplates the nature of nudity in Second Life®. The photo are great, too. but you will want to stick around for the writing.
  3. Historical Maps of Second Life Birthdays – Daniel Voyager collected maps of the the SL birthday sims from the 4th through the 10th. It’s far cooler than it sounds! I am so glad he thought of the idea, because it is fun to changes from year to year.
  4. LOTD 19.06.13 – Kere Millar styled an adorable Lolita look that is original and unique and beautifully done. I am not into Lolita for myself, but that doesn’t mean I cannot admire someone styling that look to perfection.
  5. Weird Questions Meme – Harlow Heslop tackles another of Berry’s memes, but the real star in this post is the profile picture. The hair is stunning and the eye shadow and liner are a perfect choice for that hair as are the earrings. Then to make it even better, her top brings everything together. It’s just so well-styled that it’s a show stopper.

Cajsa Fast Five: June 17th

Fast Five Two years ago today I brought Oscar home. He has been such a surprise. At the Humane Society, he was not a friendly cat and I was told not to expect much affection. Hah! He’s been wonderful and very loving, even if he does sound more like a duck than a cat.

  1. You Could Probably Rule the World from SL, if You Wanted To. Aemeth Lysette has an inspiring and thoughtful post about her success in using SL to enhance her opportunities in real life as well.
  2. Your SL Evolution – Harper Beresford challenged folks to put together a timeline of their style evolution a few years back when she was hosting a forum on SL’s Community blog for Fashion Week. So many responded she created a Flickr group. For SL10B, she had the great idea of putting up an exhibition with an updated photo. Be sure to check out her blog and her gallery at SL10B.
  3. Sleepover: The Arcade often brings out our inner child, but no more so than with Carthalis Rossini in this fun little post exposing his inner child. Adorable.
  4. When Boredom Strikes: Josiah Lee Baxter’s post is striking, powerful and captivating. He knows that sometimes simplicity is stronger and more powerful than anything else.
  5. Three Doors Down – Kryptonite: I just love the naturalness and simplicity of her outfit and her poses. The pictures looked snapped, not posed. Beautifully done

Tangerine

jun15_004

Tangerine, she is all they claim
With her eyes of night and lips as bright as flame
Tangerine, when she dances by, senoritas stare and caballeros sigh
And I’ve seen toasts to Tangerine
Raised in every bar across the Argentine
Yes, she has them all on the run, but her heart belongs to just one
Her heart belongs to Tangerine

Leather and Lace

jun14_004

Leather and lace probably would have become a fashion cliche without Stevie Nicks, but she certainly helped it along. Has there been a season of Project Runway without some leather and lace walking down the runway, usually with flowing tulle. Well, it does not have to be a cliche as you can see in this very modern minimalist one button jacket with the small lace punctuation for R2 for Collabor88 and these great Napa leather pants from NYU for faMESHed.

jun14_002

Modern sensibilities continue with the jackets square cut open back. This is as angular as the front is curved. This is a jacket that is thoroughly modern with its few touches of romanticism nearly invisible, as in the black on black brocade sleeves. It is still feminine, but strong and modern. It looks forward, not back and there is not a sentimental stitch in its fabric. You can find it at Collabor88 in an array of bright colors as well as this black and white with a coordinating miniskirt. I opted to pair it with the NYU leather pants to change it up and drop any possibility of it bursting into song “you give me your leather…Take from me my lace.”

Cajsa Fast Five: June 13th

Fast Five It’s been a while since I did a Fast Five. I have been irritated at folks lately. It is hard to highlight good things when I am aggravated. I have disliked browsing the feeds and Flickr thanks to the overabundance of photos that just should not be there. However, I  have decided to push on through and recognize that I can’t change people, just my own reaction to them.

  1. Normal maps, spec maps and diffuse, oh my! Sei Minuet has a great tutorial demonstrating that the new materials work on regular old prime, too, not just mesh, so ooh la la!
  2. How to view multiple textures on one mesh with more than one material in Blender. Siddean Munro has a great editorial on multiple textures. Hair makers take note!
  3. 53 Lets the Sun Shine Through – Bodzha Elderflower has another great photo and I just love the styling. I want that hat and I want it now!
  4. Challenge Gallery 42: Community (SL10B Challenge): There’s a great collection of pictures for this week’s Single Frame Stories. Go check them out!
  5. Cat Litter – Oh, this is exciting, a preview, a hint, a possibility of a Where’s Dim Sum game….I can’t wait to see more.

The Silence of the Prims

Silence of the Prims

When this idea popped into my head, I had to do it even though I am so far behind on so many things I had not planned to do Berry’s SL Movie Poster Challenge at all. However, when I was trying to finish things up for our Blogger Carnival at SL10B and SL would not even let me rez a wood box, I was feeling homicidal – at that moment, I could have been a serial prim killer. And that’s when I thought of doing this – and of course, just had to shoot it. It was not terribly difficult. I made a mouthie with a death head moth and that’s about it for shooting in SL. Even the editing was mostly making it black and white in parts and adding noise. Anyway, hope you like it. The skin – as much as you can see is PXL Creations, the eyes are Insufferable Dastard and the Death Head Moth was made by me.
