Arcade Angels

May You Find Some Comfort There

There’s all sorts of angelic options at The Arcade, but I did not take the usual route. I did add wings from The Secret Garden (tsg) but instead of rest of their angelic creation, I went the naughty angel route with this deliciously sexy Show Time dress from Blueberry.

May You Find Some Comfort There

This dress is much too short and bootylicious to be standard issue angelwear, but I don’t believe in standard issue clothing.

When the air is fresh and crisp as new snow.

A Fine Day For Moving Today

Portland is on its third day of snow. We are a city ill-suited to snow. Most people don’t know how to drive in it. We have lots of hills that are quite steep and can get slippery, we have bridges that get icy, and we have snow so seldom, there is no huge fleet of snow removal equipment nor deep knowledge of living with snow. I hunker down and so does my best friend, and we are both from snow country. She’s from Buffalo, I am from the Northwoods of Minnesota. We know snow.

I remember the first snowfall after I moved to Oregon. I was living way up in the Cascades, in a river valley, closed in my mountains, a deep canyon that ranged from 1/4 to a few miles wide. There were places where the road was carved into the canyon cliffs, with a fall down into the river below and there were wider valleys that made room for truck farming, but life centered on logging. It was rural, so I was surprised when I got a call saying school was closed and there was just a dusting of snow, barely two inches. I thought it was a prank and went to school anyway, discovering it was closed. Deciding to take advantage of a weekday off, I decided to drive to the State Capitol and take a tour.

It was then I discovered why they closed school for a light snowfall. Driving up one of the big hills, the traffic was so slow the cars lacked the speed that would keep them from sliding backwards, pulled by gravity on the slick highway. It was quite frightening, more frightening than anything that had ever happened to me in a car before. I managed to avoid them as I chugged up the hill, but it was nerve-wracking. I am sure they thought I was a speedster, but really, I just understood the laws of physics.

A Mind of Their Own

Don't worry about the smallest size that light can be, it will chase away the darkness

The damn lights have a mind of their own. I picked them up at Collabor88, the newest release from Maxi Gossamer and they just insist on going everywhere. They’re all in a tangle and I need to untangle them before I can decorate.

Don't worry about the smallest size that light can be, it will chase away the darkness

Of course, if you’re decorating the outside of your house, you need a smoking hot coat like this one from Mutresse. It comes with a color-change HUD that is stuffed with 20 colors that you can use to customize the turtleneck sweater, the zips, the collar, the lapel, the pockets and the jacket body and bodice. Such control gives you exactly what you want. It, too, is at Collabor88.

Hello Cold Weather

Hello Cold Days

December is here and that means Christmas! and The Arcade! and it is up for debate which is more exciting. It’s so easy to go the red and green route for the holidays, but I resisted, buoyed by the gorgeous Camellia lights from {anc} over in the corner. I went for pinks and turquoises, think Miami meets Idaho. I liberally used the edit menu to tint my furnishings just a bit and even retexture a few things such as the runner on the side table. I know it’s a blend of modern and traditional that should clash, but it doesn’t. I think of Simon de Pury when I decorate, “Be bold, be brave, be amazing.” Why not mix modern settees with traditional cupboards and folk art and deco end tables? If you can make harmony of contradiction, then it’s not just bold, it is amazing.

A Sound of Thunder

A Sound of Thunder

There was a downpour yesterday, raining so heavy that at times it looked like it was dark out during the day. While it was cold, grim, and miserable outside, inside was warm with food, friendship, and the fellowship of good company. Countering the gray, cloudy rain, there was a bright yellow sun in the form of this lovely minidress from Decoy for Collabor88.

To fly we have to have resistance

To fly we have to have resistance

Resistance is not futile. Resistance gives flight to hope and defies despair. Resistance reminds us that we are a better nation when we embrace social and racial justice. While the arc of history just got a big kink in its bend toward justice, it still bends. We have lived experience that gay rights, women’s rights, civil rights and human rights are empowering, not weakening our country. They cannot erase that knowledge, the lived experience of Americans who saw that gay rights bring joy, that trans liberation brings freedom, that women’s rights brings advancement, that immigrant rights bring progress, and that human rights bring progress. They can try to take away those rights, but the living experience of our people prove their crabbed and cruel vision of the future is a lie. We will prevail in the long run. They are on the wrong side of history which is why even their temporary victory fills them with rage instead of celebration.

Meanwhile, we can still enjoy life…and fashion.

Such a Nasty Woman

Such a Nasty Woman

It is Election Day at long last. Elections in America are far too long and of course, the campaigns in the commentariat are even longer. After all, there’s already speculation and talk about 2020 before 2016 is decided, because the media would rather talk horse races than policy.

This is the first truly existential election since 1860. People who complain that the election is not about issues this year are wrong. It’s just that the issues on the ballot are not the issues we are used to voting on—whether we are a free country or an authoritarian one, whether the United States controls it foreign policy or follows the dictates of a former KGB agent, and whether we want to continue as a democratic republic or are ready to just give it all up and hand it over to a despot. Thwse are the issues of this election and they could not be more important.

I am wearing suffragette white even though I voted two weeks ago. I am excited to be electing the first woman president. I wish the election were about her policies in competition with his, but it is not. This is not an election about marginal tax rates, health care policy and higher education funding. It is not about traditional issues. It is about our humanity.

Such a Nasty Woman

I am wearing a delightful white leather jacket from Pixicat for Collabor88 over a fun sports bra and pants from Azuchi. The Pixicat Night Jacket has a hud to allow color changes. It can be bi-color as well. I love the details on the pants. On a side note, I have been reading The Best Nature and Science Writing of 2016 and it included a great article from Racked on the science and engineering in developing sports bras. You should check it out, “Why Are Sports Bras So Terrible?” Fortunately in Second Life® if the sports bra fails to provide enough support we can just adjust the physics layer. If only it were so in real life.

Apply Yourself

Nature is the inspiration for all ornamentation.

This Verushka dress from Liziaah is striking in its details – all very architectural and rigid, but intricate and complex – a baroque form of modernism.

Nature is the inspiration for all ornamentation.

It is also unusual in its construction. With the advent of mesh, we have lost the old form of system layers and while we often use appliers for lingerie or layering, there are few people making clothing using appliers and mesh pieces. Liziaah is one of those few. This dress is applied and the dreaded flap for the skirt is added, however, since this is mesh, not prim, it has not of the flaws of past. It conforms to movement, it reacts to the light the same as the applied textures. In the end, it makes a beautiful dress that is form-fitting in ways that mesh cannot achieve.

Everything is fair in love, war, and fashion.

Everything is Fair in Love, War and Fashion. - Reiss Field

Distance lends discretion, so I am beginning my post with a full body shot instead of the usual three-quarter photo I usually use. My blouse is a bit sheer and revealing and so closer, more detailed photos are below the cut on behalf of those who might be taking a peek while at work. I am repurposing a lovely lingerie bodysuit from Luxuria because as Reiss Field once said, “Everything is fair in love, war, and fashion.”

Oh The Insolence

Insolence has decided to return to the land of the living MESH Lingerie that we can wear on our Maitreya bodies! Word on the street is that lingerie for Belleza and SLINK bodies are coming soon as well.

If you’re old enough you’ll remember Insolence as one of the best brands that stood the test of time but with the advent of mesh world their products got shelved by most of us. I’m very excited to see them back on point.
