Get Ready…

I’m getting ready for Christmas in my new place, and I’m still dithering with how to decorate. It’s my favorite holiday, ok maybe it’s a tie with Halloween. But At this moment I’m working with the Zerkalo Christmas set from THE ARCADE and it’s a lovely addition to my new home. Continue reading

Hints of autumn begin to gather

People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.

NYU has released fabulous button front shirts that tuck in and by tuck in, I mean there really is a tail that tucks in, they don’t just seem to tuck. The top also has a gorgeous yoked back with a single center pleat adding volume to the body of the shirt. There are coordinating skies in several plaids. The color palette is subdued and autumnal, appropriate now that the northern hemisphere heads back to school and the freshness of fall is in the air. If you look, you can see the skirt has a couple design details to elevate it from the ordinary, including a thoroughly modern peplum that is very different from the usual in that is drapes close to the body and is longer than usual. Unlike most peplums, it is not adding a lot of volume at the hips.

People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.

I stopped off at Cape Juniper which is an interesting sim. It has a wedding venue along the shore and a small town with a retro vibe. There is also this derelict and crumbling old church (I am assuming a church) that caught my eye and drew me in.
People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them.

It didn’t really seem like part of the town, but it was still a lovely spot to visit and take pictures.

Alas, Alack and Welladay

150530_003

I am not really feeling that woe is me at the moment, but this pose in ant’s broken chair at May’s Collabor88 just seems to embody the melodramatic despair of some poor benighted Shakespearean unfortunate. I used the Animare HUD to adjust the pose just a bit so the head and arm rest on the floor.  Continue reading

All Meshed Up

Snapshot_002

Mesh dress, shoes, body, hands, feet, jewelry, hair and face. Yes, I am all meshed up. The dress is from Milk Motion for this month’s Collabor88. It comes in several pastel colors – fitting with this month’s theme. I love how asymmetry in the neckline echoes that of the skirt. I also adore the belt, enough that I wish it were sold separately to war with other items. I have one quibble, but it is rooted in Second Life limitations, not in poor construction. This dress has shoulder pads, as you can see. That gives it a great architectural look. Sadly, every long hair I tried to wear  intersected with it. I normally prefer the shorter hair and updos anyway, because I love jewelry and want to see it. But, I also like having the option of long hair and that is a little difficult with these shoulders. Of course, one of those free-flowing manes would work.

Join Hands For Nepal

150512_006

Perhaps because Second Life® is very much an intentional community, a self-selected universe of seekers, its people seem to have internalized John Donne’s extraordinary claim “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main…” On April 25th, a bell tolled in Nepal. An earthquake and its aftershocks killed nearly 2000 people and fractured the infrastructure of the country. Because Second Life’s residents are “involved in mankind”, they responded quickly. Today a fundraiser opened to raise money to help feed the people of Nepal though the UN’s World Food Program.  With another aftershock injuring over two thousand people just last night, the urgency of their need is compelling.

Join Hands, a new group formed to leverage the efforts of the SL community to respond to real world needs has organized the Fashion For Food (Join Hands for Nepal) event. There are many details about the event in Inara Pey’s great blog post complete with pictures from the event venue. With a bold and effective choice, the organizers chose to have the sim build reflect the damage of an earthquake and Inara Pey has several great picture of the venue.

Mami Jewell of Azul is one of those creators who often steps up to offer items to help. For Fashion for Food, she has released three different items. One is the short color block mini that is not in her usual formal style. I was happy to see it as it was perfect for DJ’ing last night. The black and teal combination and simple geometry inspired me to wear the lovely white, mint and yellow geometric nail polish from Nylon Outfitters for this month’s Collabor88 – and that led me to run with yellow for my accessories including these great shoes I got at the 21 Shoe event. I suppose it is cruel to show them since they were available for one day only – on the 21st. But I hope that inspires you to mark that date and remind yourself to check out the event. Participating stores offer two-for-one shoe exclusives for that day, but they are not available after the event.

Some big yellow earrings from Glam Affair and a lovely hair style from Exile help complete my outfit. This lovely skin from Glam Affair for Collabor88.

The World Food Program has three main goals under its Nepal earthquake response:
deliver food to survivors and those who need it most,
provide emergency operation assistance on a massive scale, and
help the humanitarian aid community with relief hub services.

Not everyone wants to contribute through events and would rather give their support directly in their first life. You can donate directly to the World Food Program Nepal relief here.

Luxuriating

150507_006

I fell in love with the {anc} broken chair at Collabor88. In particular, I thought the animations and poses were extraordinarily well done. I took a lot of pictures of the poses and will post smaller pictures of them. I added some lovely lacey lingerie from Luxuria. I love how the lace is an abstract representation of roses. Luxuria’s lingerie comes with all the layers for clothing as well as appliers for Slink and Maitreya. This picture also shows off the lovely necklace from LaGyo.

The lighting is not photoshopped. I used the Dark Ambient windlight setting that comes with the standard Firestorm collection. The lighting comes from the Pilot candles and the half-deer curtains. I also used one self-made projector prim.

Waiting…anticipating

150507_004

I am uncommonly good at waiting. I do not know why; I do not have any particular fondness for delayed gratification. I would just as soon never have to wait at all. Nonetheless, I have so many ways to make the time pass that waiting does not bother me. I usually bring a book to read everywhere I go in case there are unanticipated delays. Sometimes there are delays long enough that I finish the book, but I still have distractions. I watch people going by and compose descriptions of them. I try to note all the details, the type of clothing, the fabrics and patters, the hair, makeup and accessories. You should try it sometime. It is an entertaining way to people watch. Sometimes, I get caught out staring, so I simply smile and say something like “I was admiring your scarf, is it silk?”

There are some fashion events coming soon and I have been waiting and waiting and waiting. One, Collabor88, opens in an hour. The other, Penumbra’s Spring/Summer Fashion Week opens on May 16th. While waiting for Collabor88 to open, I am taking a bath, listening to Art Pepper playing saxophone and hoping my candles do not set my curtains alight.
150507_001

One of the highlights at Collabor88 already is this broken chair in the foreground. It is from {and} that contains several poses and animations. The quality of the animations and poses is amazing and you will see that in another post that I already shot but have not uploaded to Flickr yet. I figured I better wear some clothes when I am posing in the chair.

And I Need To Get Home

Home is that place where you walk in and you’re at ease, it’s your space. You’re not only welcome there you feel a strong sense of it being the right place. Sometimes it’s just your space, sometimes it’s a space you share. You can feel HOME at a place that isn’t your dwelling, and that’s the best feeling of all, because that’s the most welcoming and happy feeling of all. You know it’s a good place, if you feel like it’s home when you step inside.

Inside you usually find your people, even when you’re not connected by DNA.  Continue reading

A Damn Fine Cup of Coffee

150315_002

Relaxing at Agent Cooper’s desk with a damn fine cup of coffee from Schadenfreude.

When my father died, my sisters called to tell me. It was not unexpected and was, in many ways, a relief for him and everyone who loved him, but that does not lessen the loss or the finality of death. They gave me the news and I sat there, quietly stunned at how much more painful it was than Thought it would be. I think I whimpered, trying not to cry. So my oldest sister said, “Go make yourself a coffee. It’s a good thing. I’ll call you back after you’ve had a coffee.” I had to laugh to myself, because coffee as comfort is so very much the legacy of my dad, a first generation Swedish American.

150315_003

Such a messy desk! some of the mess comes in a great collection of clutter from Tres Blah at The Arcade that are must have pieces to turn houses into homes.

Coffee is a ritual for Scandinavians who consume more coffee per capita than any other people in the world. Most people in the US are familiar with coffee breaks at the work place, but in a Swedish American home, there are coffee breaks every day, when we would all sit down together and enjoy a good cup of coffee with some bread and cheese or some fruit or a dessert. And by all, I mean all. Children get coffee with milk as soon as they are old enough to hold a cup without spilling it. Continue reading
