It is snowing in Second Life® and warm weather clothing is not only de rigueur, it is downright a necessity. The December collection at Collabor88 is your winter outfitters headquarters with all kinds of outwear options. I decided to mix up a few pieces, taking these gorgeous wool trousers from Baiastice and the lovely wool sweater, jacket and scarf from The Secret Store. There are multiple color options so you can mix and match enough outfits for the entire month – they all look great together. I went for a monochromatic white, grey and black look.

Comfy Cozy
It’s so cold outside, but I am snug as a bug inside the little snuggery from tarte for The Arcade. With a wall of windows facing south I get enough sun to warm up.
Of course, layering is the real secret to warmth. This lovely outfit from PixiCat for Collabor88 is not only warm as the rug that snugs the bug, but it is really an entire wardrobe. The leggings and the jacket come with texture-changing HUDS. The sweater is tentacle, so the only limit is statistical. Continue reading
Orange You Glad You Stopped By…
In RL I don’t think I own a stitch of orange clothing and to be honest, I don’t own much of it in SL but when I saw these adorable and cheap skirts and tops from *CoKo* at the Okinawa Summer Festival, I just couldn’t pass it up. Don’t let the vendor fool you, they are actually textured really nice.

Grumpy Greta or This is not a store
Whenever I was in a foul mood, my mother would say, “Don’t be a Grumpy Greta.” I figure Mom should Greta for her alliterative name because Dad was altogether too fond of Greta Garbo. Oddly enough, according to ancestry.com, Dad and Greta Garbo were 2nd cousins twice removed. Who knew? Well, I am a Grumpy Greta this morning and it is all because of creator profiles. Actually it is one creator’s profile, but since the problem is so common, I will not name the store or creator. After all, if there are literally dozens who do this, why point to only one?
This is where the store owner’s profile pick takes me. Please note this is not a store. This is a house. It is a lovely house, but it’s not made by the creator. I checked. It’s a LAQ house by Mallory Cowan. I did not go inside because I don’t go in other people’s house uninvited. That is not quite 100% true. I did teleport into someone’s house before being booted. That happened when I followed this same creators SLURL from Marketplace. So to recap, the Marketplace store link goes to someone else’s house where there is a 10 second security orb ready to toss you out and the profile store link goes to the creator’s home. No store at all. There is another store listed in the profile, but that is for resale of breedables, not what I was looking for either. The store does not show in Search – perhaps the creator cannot afford the 30 lindens to pay for listing in search because no one can find the store to buy anything.
If on a winter’s night a traveler
If on a winter’s night a traveler,
outside the town of Malbork,
leaning from the steep slope,
within fear of wind and vertigo,
looks down in the gathering shadow,
in a network of lines that enlace,
in a network of lines that intersect,
on a carpet of leaves illuminated by the moon,
around an empty grave –
What story down there awaits its end?
If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler is a short miracle of a book written by Italo Calvino. I am thinking of rereading it again for perhaps the tenth time. It’s written so beautifully it feels like poetry. In fact, the chapter titles, as you can see above, seem to make a poem. But the real poetry is the evocative language and the deep, authentic love of language that Calvino reveals.
The novel begins in a railway station, the locomotive huffs, steam from a piston covers the opening of the chapter, a cloud of smoke hides part of the first paragraph. In the odor of the station there is a passing whiff of station café odor. There is someone looking throughout he befogged glass, he open the glass door of the bar, everything is misty inside, too, as if seen by nearsighted eyes, or eyes irritated by coal dust. The pages of the book are clouded like the windows of an old train, the cloud of smokes on the sentences. It is a rainy evening; the man enter the bark he unbuttons his damp overcoat; a cloud of steam enfold him; a whistle dies away along tracks that are glistening with rain, as far as the eye can see.
From Chapter One of If on a winter’s night a traveler
No 15: In The Garden
Every church I attended when I was growing up had the Gospel Hymnal with all the songs numbered to help people find them quickly. We all knew Number 60 was The Old Rugged Cross. Dad’s favorite was No. 234, Children of the Heavenly Father, a traditional Swedish hymn that he preferred to sing in Swedish. For Mom, it was Higher Ground and for some reason I cannot remember its number for certain, though I think it was 117. Mine was number 15 – In the Garden.
I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.
And he walks with me and he talks with me
And he tells me I am his own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known.
That songs speaks to the ecstatic experience – which though associated with faith can be experienced by anyone in the presence of absolute beauty. I remember the first time I had such a moment. I was six and visiting my sister and her family. We were at the Falls and exploring this garden that had a floral clock and the mist rose up from the falls making everything and everyone fall away. It seemed I was a alone in a fog of flowers. I stopped still and remember wondering if it was real or if I were dreaming. It was a profound experience, a kind of joy born solely out of beauty. I remember feeling the same way when I was a senior in high school and sitting in the gardens of the Alhambra. I was resting alone in a gazebo made of bougainvillea, sketching the fountain in front of me and suddenly the sunlight struck the water drops in such a way they seemed like prisms, radiating color in the air. It took my breath away and I again felt that strange feeling of unreality, a sort of “pinch me, I must be dreaming” moment, except you would never want to pinch yourself out of such joy. Flowers in Ghostville
I thought Ghostville would be an appropriate place to wear this outfit since I am wearing clothing from a bygone era. Yes, that blouse is a combination of system, prim and sculpts without any mesh components. In fact, it’s an old blouse, one from GField and I did not delete it in the great non-mesh purges of 2012 and 2013. I jest, I guess, though Gidge said I would be thrown out of the Fashion Mafia. The thing is, I love this blouse. It’s beautiful fits well and looks great and I really don’t care what it is made of when it works. I paired with with gorgeous mesh pants from One Bad Pixel in a lovely tone on tone damask.
I am wearing SLink’s natural mesh feet with ISON’s sandals from the July Collabor88 which should be in the store now. The sandals are striking with bold colors and a line of brass studs running up the vamp. They fit well when walking and standing but I discovered while dancing that the movement of dancing will allow the heel to show through the back of the shoe. If you don’t plan on dancing, though, they have no fit issues.
Here is a closer look at the top. I love mesh myself, but really, this looks great and I don’t see any reason to avoid wearing clothing that looks good just because its technology is no longer de riguer.
My hair is from a recent release from Truth and is called Elaine. It has a sweet blue fade at the ends. The jewelry is from Maxi Gossamer and the mesh hands are SLink’s with a fabulous manicure and pedicure from FLAIR.
Glam Affair has gorgeous, fresh-faced skins for Collabor88 this month. I love the color in the cheeks and the subtle eye makeup.

I Am Ready to Collabor88
My computer is back with a new hard drive, so it’s kind of like starting with a blank slate. It is certainly the cleanest clean install of Second Life I have done as it was the first application I installed. So there I was in-world again after my short hiatus and ready to Collabor88. But first, I had to log in as the LoveDonnaFlora avatar and transfer all the funds to Squinternet after the Love Donna Flora event. All in all, the event raised $12,619.45 to help support Squinternet’s struggle with cancer. There may be some more coming in after the event, but it is likely to be small and will, of course, be transferred to Squint regularly.
Speaking of Donna Flora, the dress I am wearing is a perfect Collabor88tion of MiaMai’s Monica Outlander and Donna Flora’s Squinternet. Again, Monica executed Squint’s vision, marrying her skills and sensibilities with Squint’s exuberant love of vintage. The result is a dress that seems to have a third collabor88tor in the mix, Gustav Klimt. The blend of fabrics were surely chosen by Squint after consulting with Klimt. And who could be a better collabor88tor for the 1920s. It’s not well known, but Klimt designed some dresses with his lover Emilie Flöge, the couturier. His dresses hung from the shoulders, without a defined and corseted waist and were very bohemian in their aesthetic.

E is for Eellogofusciouhipoppokunurious (Thanks, Arora!)
I noticed when doing my credits for this post that I have two “E” items which had me asking plurk for more. . The first is this cute leather mini from E! (see the exclamation point) which is Eclectic Apparel, the work of Eclectic Wingtips. It comes with a hud that allows you to change the metal findings from gold to silver to black and back. You also can change the upper “belt/sash” portion with several color and print options. It’s sassy and short and just the perfect choice for the new ruffled top from La Penderie de Nicole, which also comes with options, including black with several choices in contrast ruffle lining. Collabor88
Seriously, this is the cutest outfit EVER. I sludged through the lag at Collabor88 but it was well worth it. So many adorable things there this month. I’m sure you’ll see all these things blogged a million times this month but who cares….I’m cute as shit.
This outfit makes me long for fall. I was just saying this morning over on plurk how I hate that So Cal doesn’t have seasons. I guess I will have to be content with living out my fall fantasies in SL.
