Everyone knows about sea serpents, but long ago, somewhere in the history books, knowledge of lake serpents got lost. Maybe it was those few pages that got ripped out, to be used as kindling for the fire. Or, heaven forbid, someone got creative when in the loo.
There also seems to be an utter lack of information on the fact that, when needed, serpents can actually shift into humanoid form, to preform certain tasks.
Life is too short to wear boring clothes. So, those who know these things attribute the quote to Cushnie et Ochs, a fashion label. I don’t know, I bet Marie Antoinette said it a few times in her day, even before she had any idea how much too short her life would be. Life is too short to not indulge your whims and fancies when you can, or more appropriately, when you can responsibly. In this case, I indulged myself, but deciding to move the panniers that were placed on the hips of this dress up to my shoulders for a completely different look. Alexander McQueen said “Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of punishment.” I agree, we should wear what makes us happy and only follow those trends that appeal to us. After all, style is more important than fashion and style is about our choices. There are always wonderful choices in Second Life®.

Gizza recently released a skirt and shirt/jacket combo that is a rocker’s dream. Called Shake With Me, even the name acknowledges this rocking inspiration for this outfit. A short flared skirt, a fitted crop top with lace topped by a leather jacket combine to rock your socks off.
You can trust me, I bring a book everywhere I go. I just finished the magnificent All the Light We Cannot See that I recommend to all of you. Meanwhile, am busy reading The Culture of Make Believe which I read in small doses at a time because it is so rich in ideas and in detail and full of pain that I have to think about each concept before moving on. So, for relief, I am also reading Get In Trouble, but other than being intrigued already, it’s too soon to say how much I will like it.

Allen Ginsberg was asked to share some advice for writers. His advice was simple, to write what you want to say. Don’t stifle your instincts by trying to write for an audience that does not include you. “It’s more important to concentrate on what you want to say to yourself and your friends. Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness…You say what you want to say when you don’t care who’s listening.” I love that line, “follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.” Perhaps The Cat was right, “We are all mad here.”
A good place to follow your inner moonlight and enjoy your madness is Strings by Cica Ghost. You can dance in the plaza while musicians play lovely instrumentals, explore the oversized homes of the musicians or wander the heath surrounding the homes. I wandered out to the cliffs where weather-whipped trees made stark silhouettes against the sky. I was wearing a projector which is why you can see me.
Damselfly Marnie hair and Azuchi Suma dress
If you have been following this blog lately, you know that Hair Fair happened and while it was happening, I have been publishing interviews with Hair Fair designers. I got a notecard back from one on Sunday. It was from Shyla Honey of Damselfly and began with an apology because she had been out of town for two weeks and wanted me to know she had not been ignoring my notecard queries. I didn’t read the rest because I was in a bit of hurry.
I popped over to Hair Fair to buy the two of her Hair Fair releases I had not already purchased and pick up the gifts and shot my pictures of all her hairs. Then I opened the notecard back up and realized that the note was all she sent, reasonably assuming since Hair Fair was ending, I would not continue the interviews. Oh well, at least I have all the pictures.
I decided to wear this dress from Azuchi because it has that huge ruffle across the bodice that normally conflicts with hair and Damselfly hair is often long and curly and exactly the sort of hair likely to cause problems with a bodice ruffle. Not that I was looking for trouble, but I chose it because a few design decisions were made that address that problem well. You will note that you get the full ruffle, it has gathers in it and makes the bold design statement, but it is crafted to lay close to the bodice, avoiding conflicts. It’s a bit of trompe l’oeil and it works well.

I am not the Queen of Everything, not even the Princess of Quite-A-Lot, but if I were, I might wear this gown – at least in the winter when it is cold. It might be a bit much on a hot, humid August afternoon. Do you ever wonder if those long ago aristocrats would feel twinges of envy for the peasants during the dog days of August, feeling every one of their layers of clothing and corsets and lacings?

Second Life’s Penumbra Spring/Summer Fashion Week continues through the 23rd. A la Folie had a big collection including this adorable dance dress, MADNESS. It has a HUD that allows you to choose from six textures for the dress, and six colors for the ruffles and the coordinating shoes and jewelry (not shown). This made me think of the One Note Samba – built on one note, but the other notes are sure to follow.

I wore the Vivianne dress from Lassitude & Ennui (at Collabor88) when I DJ’ed at The Velvet’s Valentine’s Day party. It’s such a romantic dress with it’s froth of lace at the hem.
