A Walk In the Woods

May15_006
One of the best things about growing up where I did was the 3.5 mile walk from the school bus stop to my house. Granted, I did not always appreciate that walk, particularly if it was raining and muddy or bitterly cold. But I often cut a mile or so off the walk by cutting through the woods. The trail I walked was made by deer, so it was not quite so wide as this one, but it was pretty clear considering deer don’t use bulldozers. There is a kind of quiet in the woods that is different from the quiet of walking down the road – even though there is no traffic on the road. Your footsteps are muffled by the soft humus of the ground, the wind is muffled by the trees and time seems to stand still. This little stretch of road through the woods at Miniascape reminds me so much of that quiet stillness.

I am feeling delightfully and romantically feminine today with the floral skirt from Baiastice – just released for The Liaison Collaborative and the sheer lace top from Vogue. Both items were just released and seem to have been made for each other, even though they were not. I decided to shoot this front and back because the top, being sheer, has no alpha and wanted to assure readers that the fit is perfection.

Easter Hatology

mar31_006

It is Easter a holiday, a Christian holiday celebrated on the day of a pagan rite celebrating spring. We are told it is named after Eostre, the goddess of spring. Our source for that is the Venerable Bede who wrote in his book On the The Reckoning of Time “Eosturmonath has a name which is now translated “Paschal month”, and which was once called after a goddess of theirs named Eostre, in whose honour feasts were celebrated in that month. Now they designate that Paschal season by her name, calling the joys of the new rite by the time-honoured name of the old observance.”

You know, he could have been joking. He did a lot of fabricating in his book. I guess, lacking Google, he filled in with imagination what he didn’t have well-sourced. The only thing that is known that several cognates in other languages mean dawn, so it’s possible it could be the dawn of spring. This really is the only early evidence of Eostre. There’s Grimm of course, but he’s closer to our time and is even more certainly inventing as he goes along.

Still, the commercial traditions of easter eggs and bunnies and peeps are harmless fun that make a holiday special for kids who are not quite ready to understand the metaphysical aspect of the day. They also give the holiday secular components that make it part of the unofficial civic religion that people of all and no faiths participate in as part of being here in this society. That is how Easter works for me. So, of course I am wearing an Easter bonnet, courtesy of Gidge who sent it to me. Thanks, Gidge!

Peek a Boo!

mar30_006

So this is an outfit to wear clubbing. The sleek, almost mirror-like pants look great under the moving colored lights over the dance floor. The top is about as sexy and revealing as is legal and yet cool, comfortable and perfect for dancing. I imagine that little bow could tempt someone to pull one end, but smart tailoring has stitched it closed so there won’t be an murder on the dance floor tonight.

The super sheer lace is lined along the facing, providing strategic opacity just where it is needed. Little chain button closures flirt with exposure but are perfectly secure. Because it is sheer, it has to fit perfectly and it does. There is no alpha with this top because the point is exposing the skin.  Continue reading

Just Visiting On A Sunday

Just Visiting

It seemed perfect to check out JUST VISITING on a Sunday, the traditional day of calling and visiting friends – after church of course.

I can’t remember having been here, so either it’s new or new to me but I decided it would be a more perfect world all purpley.
My Lunch Didn't Agree With Me
I tried to grab some lunch while visiting but then my lunch tried to grab me. I didn’t find this to be polite AT ALL!

Perfectly Purple

But in terms of a beautiful relaxing place to swaddle yourself in the windlight of your pleasure, it’s a perfect place.

New Romance

mar08_005

This is the month many of you will fall in love with Collabor88 all over again. The theme is New Romance and it is rife with hearts and flowers, frills and furbelows and overall romantic femininity. It’s so sweet and girlie, you will have to brush your teeth after visiting. The epitome of the triple strawberry sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top that is this New Romance showcase is the delightful Shabby Chic confection from Nylon Outfitters. First, let me say Brava! to Nylon Pinkney for recognizing that mesh is not the be-all and end-all of SL design and for opting instead to use the best option to realize her design. She has a lovely assortment of dresses in a lovely challis with a large, old-fashioned floral print. With them, she adds a lovely sheer lace blouse. She uses mesh for the skirt panel, but lets the dress fit snuggly and the see-through lace work with struggling with alphas.

I headed over the Visionaria for the Insight Forest Photo & Art Exhibition. It was a lovely spot and I could not resist shooting my post photos before walking through the gallery to enjoy the fabulous art work. There are ten artists exhibiting and you definitely should stop by and see their work.

Snowbound

Too Much Weather

I had plans to go out and do some shopping and maybe have a little lunch, but the wind howling through the pines and the snow accumulating on my windows told me that I’d best order in, and make no plans for this wintry day. Continue reading

Confessions: Sloth

feb23_014

I was curious how PXL Creations creator Hart Larsson’s would depict Sloth for his Seven Sins gacha, the sin of laziness and indolence and was surprised by his choice of showing tears. If you have been following this series, I have been pairing the skins with the Seven Sins songs from Buckcherry’s album Confessions that was released on Feb. 19th, struck by their near simultaneous release. The interesting thing is how well Hart’s choice suits the Buchcherry song Sloth in which the singer expresses his anger about his father’s suicide, of being too lazy to fight for his family and his life. That makes the tears a perfect match.

Now I’m without you and I just can’t hide it.
You’ll never know anything that I feel inside.
You know I still love you, but I stand divided
Cause I always hated your suicide.

There is nothing mournful about the Baiastice Bibbe dress for Arcade. It’s a delightful dress mixing bold colors and fabulous prints, short and sassy and ready to face the world.

Confessions: Vanity or Pride

feb21b_006

The PXL Creations Seven Sins Gacha skin Vanity is gorgeous with the prideful purple that for centuries signified royalty and imperial power. Buckcherry’s corresponding song for their Confessions album is called Pride. Frankly, it’s a pretty bad song, probably written to fulfill their need to cover all seven sins. You can probably listen to a sample on iTunes, but it’s a poor thing compared to the rest of the series. Good thing for us, the PXL Creations Vanity skin is nothing like the song. It’s a beautiful skin!
