I‘ll Burn That Bridge When I Come to It

I'll burn that bridge when I cross it.

The Secret Store released a luscious skirt and top at Collabor88 in a wide range of colors. Fashions have become increasingly risque, with transparent fabrics and laces over opaque pieces that would have been lingerie a decade ago. It is one of those fashions that require discernment on the part of designers as it can easily veer toward overexposure and bad taste. In the sure and certain hands of Maylee Oh, though, it is on trend without crossing that line into tacky. How does she avoid the pitfalls? The waist is high enough to cover the navel and the cut of the legs are not too “cheeky.” The bra top is not so skimpy that there is any risk of nip slips and other exposure. This outfit reveals without exposing.

Second Life Photos: What I Like #15

A Short Film About Long Things

A Short Film About Long Things by Whiskey Monday

I like A Short Film About Long Things by Whiskey Monday. It defies gravity and our expectations. I also think it sold more HPMD grass than all their marketing combined. It’s a play on perspective challenging our expectations which is what art should do. Ernst Gombrich said, “Art is an institution to which we turn when we want to feel a shock of surprise. We feel this want because we sense that it is good for us once in a while to receive a healthy jolt. Otherwise we would so easily get stuck in a rut and could no longer adapt to the new demands that life is apt to make on us. The biological function of art, in other words, is that of a rehearsal, a training in mental gymnastics which increases our tolerance of the unexpected.”

Well, that’s what Whiskey is doing, increasing our tolerance of the unexpected. In terms of composition, you can see the light pole follows the Rule of Fifths, the line from Whiskey to the bird and the edge of the grass follows the Rule of Thirds, and the subject follows the Golden Ratio.

When I was six years old I broke my leg. I was running from my brother and his friends. Tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass as I rolled down. I know I've grown... I can't wait to go home.

Modavia Fashion Week 2011.08

Gabriel Cherie @ Modavia Fashion Week

I enjoyed the show from Gabriel for Modavia Fashion Week. It featured menswear and womenswear. The womenswear was dominated by sculpted little cocktail dresses like this one in different colors. I have some great jackets from Gabriel, but these new cocktail dresses are a move in a more frivolous direction and I love it.

Modavia Fashion Week 2011.06

Six runway shows that kept flowing and ended on time even with Linden Labs shutting down the grid and blocking sign ins for a bit. Now that’s organization.

Shai

Shai Delacroix’s release for Casa del Shai was a range of new skins in several shade and standard makeups as well as an abundance of tattoo makeup.

The Crows

The Designers United event is always fascinating. It’s wonderful to see the way creative minds percolate away, bubbling up with new and exciting ideas even when they focus on one central theme. This time the theme was crows and there were some truly fabulous designs produced. It reminded me, though, of a dress from Redgrave – this Cord Sequin Mini-Dress I bought several months ago, so I pulled it out to mix in with some of the Designers United pieces for a new look. The hot demi-gloves come with the Redgrave dress. The bracelets are from Zaara and Gabriel.
