Al Andaluz

I spent some time in Andalucia living with a family in Algeciras during me senior year in High School. One of their favorite things to do on the weekend was to drive to the mountains and make a paella over an open fire, play guitar, sing and dance flamenco. They would be joined by other families and there would be these crazy fun parties outside in the hills with extraordinary music and dance. There was one woman, Josefina, called Fifi, who danced professionally. It really is something you never forget, seeing someone who truly excels at their craft performing among friends and family. The dress, Andaluz, from Nardcotix reminds me so much of those weekends. Continue reading

It's Homespun

When my grandparents left Sweden, they left in a hurry. My grandmother was about to be arrested for an altercation with village’s minister who felt very strongly that an atheist should not be allowed to raise even her own children. Since they picked up what they could in such a hurry, they did not bring much, but one thing they brought was her spinning wheel.  The name of the new store Homespun made me think of my grandmother – who died more than 30 years before I was born – and the heritage of free-thinking independence she passed down. I never knew her, but sometimes I do feel such a strong identification with her independent tough-minded spirit. I got a letter from my sister yesterday and she mentioned that she just had that old spinning wheel reconditioned last month – Spinning Wheel Keep On Spinning!

This lovely little birdie cardigan is from Homespun.  Like most of the Homespun offerings, it makes me think of the everyday clothing of the simple life. Simple sweaters with hand-stitched embellishments, cotton dresses and sensible shoes. The clothing you might see in an Andrew Wyeth painting which made me want to shoot outdoors. Hopping around to interesting looking places I came across Sanada Go where I saw several people engaged in sword fights, but also found a lovely setting where you can rez for easy picture taking.

The Future Is Now & Then

Those physicists who employ the chronology protection conjecture to assert that one cannot travel in time have never been in Second Life where one can travel from Stonehenge to Ancient Greece to newly imagined cyber-futures in mere seconds. That such travel is restricted to the digital world at the moment is merely a factor of our technological limitations, but our imagination has no such limitation. Imagination was set free for the Rezzable® event @ Greenies Home. Called The Future Is Now, it features the fashion imagination of some of Second Life’s most well known and most experimental designers.

Event organizer Winter Jefferson gifted me with one of the lovely gowns from the collection by a designer who foresees a future that still has time and space for romance and frills. From Bliss Couture, the futuristic Xennah gown is an exuberant homage to romantic finery which inspired me to do some time traveling back to the ancient ruins of Stonehenge on the CAM1 sim.

It's Not White

Chance Greatrex of DARE sent me some poses as a lovely Christmas present – a new set called White. I asked his inspiration and he said the poses were inspired by the color white – that he wanted a couture elegance that was clean and high fashion. That’s from memory, so it’s just a paraphrase. I thought the poses certainly achieved his goal.  However, I was wearing this at the time and informed him that his poses work perfectly with red and black as well.

You Make Me Weak…I Wanna Die……

posted by Gidge Uriza

The recent release of this chemise by Milady’s Fancy had me in mind of that great tune by Journey – Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’ which isn’t nearly as sexy and romantic as it possibly could be – if you listen to the whole thing. But that first line…..it’s sooo passionate.

It was the first thing I thought of when I slipped into this.

And I didn’t put on a skirt shape. So enjoy the bootie. That’s right! I’ve got the big bootie and I don’t care!

I happen to know that some people LIKE their girls with curves! So there!

The Binomial Coefficient of a Bombshell

The new Bombshell dress from Bijou is an entire wardrobe in and of itself. Well, okay, that’s a slight exaggeration. Nonetheless, exploring all the options will make you crazy. There’s at least three different ways of wearing the top: bra, blouse, blouse with white sash, not to even mention to wear or not to wear the collar or the little black shrug.  And there’s even more skirt options. Let’s just say that the following formula would just get you started.

Star-Spangled New Year

I am not sure if there will be a traditional Black & White Ball for New Year’s in Second Life this year – unless I can persuade Gidge to throw one with me  – but if there is, I know a perfect gown for it and it’s free. Saschi Vixen of Adam n Eve put out a marvelous gift gown for Christmas that really will rock any Black & White ball. I know New Year’s is pretty chilly though, so I added a shawl I snitched off a Donna Flora outfit called LoreDana for a little shoulder warmth.

Think of All the Fellas That I HAVEN’T Kissed!

– Santa Baby

This festive sweater from Khush is a great Christmas gift that I’ve unwittingly used to continue our red and black theme! Great minds think alike, I suspect. This is just a quickie tonight as I’m busy busy but wanted to show you this fun piece from a creator that is relatively new to me.

Puttin' on the Ritz

Different types who wear a day coat, pants with stripes
and cutaway coat, perfect fits,
Puttin’ on the ritz.

Now seriously, does anything say puttin’ on the ritz like a tuxedo. Granted, most tuxedos do have a shirt underneath – but you know what rhymes with ritz. Anyway, the lovely Tuxedo Jacket and highwaisted tuxedo pants are from CoCo – a store that always seems to surprise and delight.
