Think of a Title

jul11_006

I started this post this morning, but got distracted and decided to relax, read a book and cuddle with Oscar, my cat, instead. However, back to the blog! I love this dress from Milk Motion for Collabor88 July.  It made with sheer floral tulle over a silk sheath with a serrated hem and sleeves. I love the color-on-color subtlety. I chose this nude version which is even more subtle than the many other color options you can choose from at Collabor88.

I Will Send This Fairy to My Friend Squinternet

I talked to my friend Squinternet today, for whom my other friend Cajsa is organizing a fundraiser.  We talked about several things today, about how she felt, and how expensive it is to have a night nurse and so that’s why she doesn’t have one. It means she doesn’t have help in the night if there are problems.

We talked about hospitals and medicine, and being strong and losing hope, and finding it again. We talked about dying. Continue reading

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Jul08_002

The Ayoun dress and clutch from Baiastice for the July round of Collabor88 is a delicately feminine little frock with a dropped blouson top and a gently gathered flounce skirt. With spaghetti straps and a deep cleavage, it bares a lot for the summer sun. It comes in ten solids and five prints. What is so exciting is that the five prints are all different, not just recolors. It seems the essence of summer. The lovely clutch purse has a subtle nod to summer with the fabric rose on the flap.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

My mother wanted to be an English teacher when she was growing up. Many of her older siblings went to college, but when she was still a child, my grandfather’s bank manager ran off with all the money in his bank. This was before FDIC, so people could have lost everything. Instead, my grandfather sold his mill, electric company, his farm and his house and made all the depositors whole even though he was not obligated to do so since it was a corporation. This left him impoverished and having to start over from scratch in his late sixties. He began again as a dairy farmer on contract to a local creamery, paying $1.00 per acre, but obligated to sell his produce only to that creamery for 30 years, a northern form of share-cropping.  This ended any chance my mom had of going to college.

I Hired a Personal Assistant Fairy

I decided that it was high time I too acknowledged how fancy and important I was by getting myself a personal assistant in SL. However, I didn’t want one I would pay a pittance and then would be responsible for answering customer NCs if they came in, and for reminding me to make items for events.

No, I wanted on that would be at my beck and call 24/7 and who would make things appear that I wanted, for no other reason than because I was dreaming of them in RL. I wanted someone with MAGIC.

So, I got myself a fairy. Continue reading

Summer

jul01_001

Sissy did it again! I just love her new series of summer gowns. Form-fitting bodices and flowing skirts in an array of summer colors as well as prints and ombre’s, her new Arya gown will leave you standing in front of the display struggling to choose just five, let alone one.

With a lightweight summer-weight silk and a barely there bodice showing off your shoulders, it is the perfect summer formal for all your events. The pretty nails come courtesy of FLAIR’s fabulous nail appliers for Slink hands.

Circumnavigation

jun27_010

This simple little dress from Drift is a perfect summer dress, loose-fitting and casual. It comes with a HUD so you can choose all the colors. In fact, it comes with two textures, a cotton knit and this lovely satin and each texture has its own little hud full of color. However, I thought I would wear it with some leggings because it was a little breezy and I was afraid the wind would catch it and cause an indiscretion. The Lydia Slingbacks that Ingenue did for Collabor88 are as perfect as can be.

The bolt leggings from MichaMi sure look great with it. I had to go to XS to get it to fit under the dress, but that okay since the dress covers the skinny butt. Well, not completely. When I walked, the dress and leggings intersected from behind, so moving was more of a circumnavigation so that I faced forward.

Pink

Countdown has a new cocktail dress with a snug strapless snakeskin bodice and a frothy, sheer full skirt. It is the perfect marriage of modern and traditional, hard and soft. I decided to tip the scales a bit adding a short, cropped white leather jacket from Coco.  Continue reading

Leather and Lace

jun14_004

Leather and lace probably would have become a fashion cliche without Stevie Nicks, but she certainly helped it along. Has there been a season of Project Runway without some leather and lace walking down the runway, usually with flowing tulle. Well, it does not have to be a cliche as you can see in this very modern minimalist one button jacket with the small lace punctuation for R2 for Collabor88 and these great Napa leather pants from NYU for faMESHed.

Modern sensibilities continue with the jackets square cut open back. This is as angular as the front is curved. This is a jacket that is thoroughly modern with its few touches of romanticism nearly invisible, as in the black on black brocade sleeves. It is still feminine, but strong and modern. It looks forward, not back and there is not a sentimental stitch in its fabric. You can find it at Collabor88 in an array of bright colors as well as this black and white with a coordinating miniskirt. I opted to pair it with the NYU leather pants to change it up and drop any possibility of it bursting into song “you give me your leather…Take from me my lace.”

Sail Away, Ladies!

jun11_004

Summer fashions often feature the crisp red, white and blues of nautical fashion.  U.F.O.’s gorgeous little top for Collabor88 put me in mind of that with its white stripes. The top comes with a HUD allowing the wearer to choose an array of colors for the straps and so of course I chose red. U.F.O. also made matching skirts in several shades of denim, each with a print option with lips all over it.  I think the outfit is adorable, which is why it was worth the trouble it took to get it to fit.

I had one difficulty with this outfit in that I had to do a lot more than minor tweaks to my shapet. I had to significantly reduce my body fat and shoulder width, all trying to reduce the size of my arms so they fit the sleeves. I don’t mind adjusting a shape a little for a brand, though. I simply save a copy with the brand name, so I will have it on hand the next time I wear something from them. So now I have a new Cajsa UFO shape tucked away in my shape folder.  Continue reading

The Drama Train Never Stops On Sunday

There is something to be said for Sundays away from the computer. You miss a lot of name calling and raging and shenanigans. It seems like, on Sundays, our friends are unable to defend themselves and require us to rage against people that they may or may not be mad at. It also seems like, everything and everyone can’t just like, don’t worry be happy.

I however, opt for the latter. I made jello. Jello is, in my belief, one of the finest treats around. I am considering making something that I am told Australians love, Fairy Bread. I don’t know yet, that’s a maybe. Continue reading
