Twelve Gowns in One

Vintage Fair - Cajsa Lilliehook

This gorgeous gown from LIV-Glam at Vintage Fair is a perfect dress for the jazz clubs of the past filled with smoke, gin, torch singers and taxi dancers. Made with a combination of mesh and flexi, it combines the best of both.

Vintage Fair - Cajsa Lilliehook

The deep, swooping back is a torch singer favorite – and adds so much drama. All the poses are from the Rouge (based on the red carpet) Set from oOo Studio for Vintage Fair.

A very, very complex person

Aug06_003

The red sequin cocktail gown from CIA Designs for Vintage Fair is a torch singer’s perfect accompaniment.

I’m a very very complex person
I try to improve but you see how I worsen
I’ll do anything to make you adore me,
or deplore me, but never ignore me

I got senses that I cannot control
My stomach’s like a bottomless hole
My desires command me like a slave
I’m a knave, I can hardly behave Continue reading

Bandana Day

jul29_012

Today is Bandana Day, the culmination of Hair Fair, the last hurrah of the most widely and avidly anticipated fashion event of the year. We have drooled, fawned and mulled over the offerings of the many hair stylists. We have spent the last two weeks discovering new ones that excite our interest and rediscovering old stylists we have neglected. Perennial favorites have proven their worth again and brand new brands have shown that age isn’t everything. And here we are, on the final day taking a moment to be a little more serious and reflect on the ultimate and abiding purpose of Hair Fair, providing hair to children who have lost their own due to medical reasons.

Hey, that’s me!

Jul19_008

The other day Inex Hax asked for same suggestions for this elegant houndstooth dress she was about to release for Peqe. I suggested Baskerville and then, for some reason, did not see follow-up replies because Plurk was being glitchy. So, when I logged in and saw an object from her named Cajsa, I assumed that she had labeled it for delivery. Until I opened it and saw that the box was called Cajsa because the dress was called Cajsa and that was when my eyes popped and I said, “Hey, that’s me!” Like anyone, I am thrilled to have a design named after me, especially when my name confounds so many people. Even better, though, when the dress is so very much “my style” like this dress. You all know I have a deep, abiding love for sheath dresses and pencil skirts, prints and elegant designs that pull from the past but look to the future. This is all that in one.

Cool Beans

Playing Around with Filters - Advanced Lighting

I was all ready to go to One Voice and Collabor88 the other night and could not get in. They were both full!!! Rather than complain, though, I decided to check out the brand new Pixel Bean Coffeehouse after its recent remodel. I had planned to explore a few sims, maybe do some grid-hopping but when I got to the Bean, I was captivated by its charm and decided to shoot my outfit there. I used the sits that were in the adorable {what next} furnishing, animated sits that had me shooting tons of snaps trying to capture the right moment mid-movement. One thing led to another and I ended up playing around with filters in Filter Forge, a fun little application that I got a long time ago. I noticed it has a 60% off sale until the end of July so I thought I might mention it. The nice thing about it is that once you have the application, all the filters are free even with the least expensive option. I don’t do enough photo editing to justify the professional edition, so you don’t have to choose the most expensive to get a lot out of the application. I thought you might like to see what fun things filters can do. In these pictures, the only editing, other than cropping is using one filter. For example, for this photo I used Artificial Lighting.

Playing Around with Filters - Paint HDRtist

I think this shows why the Pixel Bean Coffeehouse inspired a picture shooting spree. The filter I used for this is called HDRtist.

Early Bird DJ

SL9B DJ Set

I signed up to DJ at SL9B and drew the 6 AM slot. My set was this morning and was a lot of fun. I featured music of community liberation and resistance from around the world, trying to craft a set to suit this years SL9B theme of community. Gogo gave me some smart advice, reminding me not to wear mesh in case there were folks attending without mesh viewers, so I dug out this gorgeous old dress from MichaMi and added hot pick shoes from Baiastice is spice it up with color.

Summer Shape Up: A Poll

Shape Tune-up: A or B?

The Solstice begins at 11:09 p.m. tomorrow so if there’s any spring-cleaning to be done, you have about a day to finish before it becomes summer-cleaning. Aside from spring-cleaning, the other big focus of spring for many people is shaping up for summer and the more revealing fashions it brings. I decided to try a summer shape-up of my own. Now that it’s done, I thought it might be fun AND SCARY to ask you what you think.

Shape Tune-up: A or B?

All the pictures are taken from the same camera position, the slight differences arising from Shape B’s slightly shorter stature. The dress I am wearing is from Geometry for Chic2. It’s a deceptively simple high-waisted sheath that is beautifully complicated by the art-deco details on the back.

Reflections of You: Tutorial

Way back in January, I saw a fantastic tutorial by Graphic Dix for Modavia Fashion Marketing on using Second Life’s water in an innovative way to capture reflections. We’ve all stood on the bank of a river or waded into the ocean and admired our reflections, but he took it to a new level.

SL9B

I wanted to do something similar and experimented a little bit and ended up going in a slightly different and, perhaps, easier direction, though achieving the same effect.  I began by finding a texture, in this case some mossy pavers from Zooboing Creations. I made a copy of the texture and using a big soft-edge eraser, I erased part of it, leaving it open alpha areas.

mmmmm…luscious red lips

jun12_007

Red lipstick! Red lips are the ones the songs are written about. One of the great musicals of all time can be brought to mind with just a single image of red lips. They’re powerful, bold and iconic. And they’re not for everyone, except today. Today is Red Lip Wednesday. Hopefully lots of us bloggers will flash our ruby red lipstick today.

Of course, nothing suits every person. We have our likes and dislikes. There are fashions I dislike and fads that leave me confounded and confused and asking why? Mostly though I shrug my shoulders and think to each his own. Certainly if we all looked the same and liked the same things, the world would be a much more boring place. So, let’s hear it for red lips! Here, there and everywhere.

jun12_011

I tossed this outfit together pretty quickly after shooting the wedding dress on Monday just before my set at The Velvet. There was no way I was dj’ing in a wedding dress! I remembered the gorgeous skirts from NYU for faMESHed. There were several colors and I loved them, so I pulled out another color. I dug around in my system clothing for something to wear with it and found this old top from Kunglers.

A Preview of SL9B

Reflecting

Second Life’s 9th birthday celebration opens on June 18th, just a week away. Gidge and I, along with some of our friends are working our pixel fingers to the bone preparing all sorts of fun tutorials about SL photography and blogging. Just to give you a preview of what’s to come, the pictures in this post are all unedited, raw shots direct from Second Life. The only thing that has been done is that they have been cropped.
