I was asked to write an article remembering Squinternet. It is illustrated with her own photos. In Absence Is Physical, I wrote about what her absence feels like in contrast with how very present she was while she lived.
The Object of a Proposition spotlights The Chamber – a social club in Second Life for those who want to spice their life up considerably. It’s a far cry from the sex clubs of noobery.
It is a little intimidating to profile Bryn Oh. She’s well-known and has been written about in the New York Times and Vogue of France and many other places. The challenge was to find something new to say. I hope I succeeded in Oh, the Places You’ll Go.
In the Singularity of Imogen, I wrote about Bryn Oh’s current installation Imogen and the Pigeons and how it explores one of the vital questions of today’s society – the singularity and what it means for our world.
This isn’t a fashion post today. It’s an announcement, a sharing of information. It’s an invitation to gather, to remember, maybe to mourn, maybe to celebrate a life.
On Saturday, September 14th everyone is warmly welcomed to come to Florencia where the Donna Flora main store is located and take the teleport down to the ground level. A memorial garden has been graciously constructed by the amazing Saiyge Lotus, for us all to gather at remember our friend.
At 9 am SLT we will hold a gathering and all are welcome to come, share stories, and feel the warmth and friendship of being with other people who also cared about Squintenet.
Saiyge has also created a special memorial tree, for everyone to take a copy of and plant at your own home, if you so wish.
The garden will remain open during the rest of September and anyone is welcome to use it for your own memorial or to come visit, at any time.
I’ve got other awesome items from the Love Donna Flora event that i would like to show you. Really great stuff: you, fantastic creators, have all my respect first because you decided to join this important event, then because you did it with such style, offering amazing creations.
So here’s this flowery vintage look of mine which i adore and i hope you’ll appreciate. The pictures location is the beautiful Love Donna Flora sim.
Squinternet Larnia has released a new dress, the first since her long struggle with illness began in December. Her struggle is not over, but I find so much hope in her return to designing and in the forward-looking name of her new outfit. April is the month of new beginnings, of rejuvenation, when the flora and the fauna return with full life force after the long winter of retreat and hibernation. I hope that the name for her new dress is a harbinger of hope, just as April is the harbinger of renewed vigor and vitality in nature. Continue reading →
If you go to Squinternet Larnia’s Flickr photostream, she has a set of photos that show what sort of blogger she might be if she ever decides to blog. Pretty amazing, aren’t they? I thought it might be fun to share her pictures with her response to the Donna Flora A to Z project. She sent this to me in Second Life to share with all of you.
Today I have good news. Part of my treatment was wrong and was corrected by doctors more careful that have given a better future prognosis for healing. I want to share with the sweet Cajsa tonight with whom I vented my discouragement and with all of you who are participating at Donna Flora A to Z.
Every post I cry a little or much, without modesty, without shame, when you say … “Squinternet is badly in need of help” but the help can be money, drugs, but the commitment that I see you all in creating something nice for me, something that is more beautiful and shows my works make me feel the urge to get back with you soon.
I’ve seen in your posts beautiful images, words and unexpectedly for me so comforting and full of sincere concern and affection for me. You say,” you gave me something nice, and I will restore it as best I can do” … this is worth more anything in the world. It enters deeply in my heart … and supports me, It is …Love. And it is certain, no one is afraid … I will heal!
I met a new world in this adventure in RL, a guardian angel who is working on my health in a way that I hoped never to deserve, friends who support me as sisters … and the security of having you here, far away in space but always by my side these days.
Meanwhile, at Fashion For Life, the Donna Flora A to Z pictures have been put up in her store for people to see and Tania Tebaldi, her website writer, added this note from Squinternet on the Donna Flora blog. If you would like to see the collected photos from the Donna Flora A to Z project, you can see them in one place on Issuu. Of course, if anyone wants to continue to add to the project, I will add their blogs to the main post, though of course, not to the publication which is finished.
There’s been an absence in my Second Life® and in the lives of many others for the past two months. A dear friend, Squinternet Larnia of Donna Flora, has been struggling with illness. She is now out of hospital and working hard to recover and find the strength to keep fighting for her health.
I remember when I was sick last year how she would IM me all the time to ask after my health and share her hope and concern for me. There were times when I felt really low and the love and friendship I found in Second Life lifted my spirit and gave me strength. I hope those of us whose Second Lives have been touched by her art, her imagination and her work as well as those who have come to know her kind and gentle spirit can do the same for her.
Let us send her messages of love, encouragement and support to lift her spirit and give her strength so that she comes back to us soon with renewed strength and good health.
And to that end, many of us have joined together in a project to highlight the fabulous Donna Flora (Marketplace) designs that have beautified our world from A to Z. Over the next week, there will be many more posts added to this abecedarian list highlighting her amazing work. The original plan was to post them all on one day, but so many people wanted to participate, it became clear that it made more sense to spread them out over a week and I am sure more will want to join. This post will stay sticky for the next week so you can find it easily until the project is completed.
I was once asked, if you could pick just one store to shop from for the rest of your Second Life, what store would it be? That’s such a hard question because so many creators bring so much diversity and beauty to my world, I don’t know how you’d ever pick.
I love Sachi Vixen of Adam n Eve, and the way she invents the girl next door to a sexy siren with great quality and style. I love Monica Outlander of Miamai’s ability to fuse a nightmare and a dream and create original concepts that you can wear. I love how Mouse of Dark Mouse makes beautiful, wearable jewelry that isn’t at all “every day” but you can in fact wear it EVERY DAY. I could go on, like how Kess textures are amazing and Gogo makes great eyeshadow and it never stops but……. Continue reading →
