!OHMai It’s Bedtime

I took a walk around the LOVE DONNA FLORA sim last night and stumbled into Anya Ohmai’s booth where she is selling these adorable bunnies to snuggle.

It’s so cute, you can change the buttons, the flag or the color of the whole bunny. And it’s perfect for night time snugglies. Continue reading

Prepping for Love Donna Flora and Sunday Dinner

I started out my Sunday perfectly, in a beautiful vineyard with a winding country road. Every few meters a cart or tent awaits a creator to come fill it with it’s goodies for the upcoming LOVE DONNA FLORA event.

I drug my heavy boxes and pose stand down the path until I got to my tent and got set up before the morning sun made me too hot.

I did end up stopping in the courtyard at the center of the build at the event, just to enjoy the scenery and have a cool drink.  It was about that time that I realized, I hadn’t SHOPPED ALL DAY!

I decided to rectify this immediately. Continue reading

Sunday Brunch Quiche

jul18_004

So, I am not going to write about quiche. But this post will be a quicky and my college roommate pronounced quiche as quickie, so it has come to have an entirely new context for me, especially as she used it in the sentence, “There’s nothing I like better than a good quiche (quicky).” And of course, she said it front of a big bunch of people. Anyway, I am super busy getting ready for Love Donna Flora, so this post will be a quiche.

In my last post I mentioned that I loved this top from The Secret Store for Collabor88. To reiterate that point, I am wearing it again. It comes in several prints and they are each and every one luscious – as luscious as a good quiche.

What Can I Do In Slink(y) Stilettos

It started off like a fashion blog might. I took some shots of a lovely cocktail ring from Maxi Gossamer. I was delighted that it sits next to my wedding ring – I LOVE wearing more than one ring.

Then I shot the shoes.

And I had this THOUGHT! I’d do a THEN AND NOW OF THE STILETTOS OF MY SL.

Because, the world has changed. I dug into my inventory with glee planning to show you how far we’d come when I realized – I’d deleted them in a rare inventory purge. Which is sad, because they were really something. I’d gotten them in a freebie box at this place that had tons of free or cheap furniture and you could game there. YEAH that’s how long ago I got them. I looked on MP, so great was my zeal to show them to you, but alas, the great MAGIC BOX SUNDERING of 2013 must have obliterated them all.

So, next idea.  Continue reading

The Next Must Have Bikini

Right about the time I think that no more bikinis ever need to be made someone comes along and makes the next one that is absolutely adorable. Anessa Stine has this one available at her shop DCNY and the best part for you is that it’s 50L because it’s part of FLF today! Continue reading

Polka Queen or The Joys of a Library Card

jul16_012

I love this top from The Secret Store for this month’s Collabor88 so much. She produced several optiongs, but only one polka dot. Its bright, happy print made me go full polka and I dug out this skirt from Maitreya to wear with it.

Have you ever wondered why a print with dots all over it is called polka dot instead of simply dotted print? Do the textile workers dance while producing the cloth? Allemande left and a dosey doe? I am the type of person who wonders these things, wanting not just to know what something is called, but why? The best source for answers to these kinds of questions is the Oxford English Dictionary to which an individual like me could subscribe for $295/year. On my budget, that is not going to happen.

Enter the public library card. Public libraries in general have gone digital in a big way and allow cardholders to log in and access their digital subscriptions. My library subscribes to the OED (though for a lot more than $295) and all its cardholders can piggy-back their access to use it as freely as if they have their own subscription. They do this with literally hundreds of research and reference sources — just about every major research service you can think of. All for free, all available from your home computer thanks to the wonders of your library card. So let’s find out why it’s called polka dot instead of dotted.

Labors of Love

jul15_002

The things we do for love…Take this lovely dress made by Monica Outlander of MiaMai. One of the frustrating elements of living with cancer for Squinternet is that she would still love to create, she still has ideas and her imagination is still dancing along the runway of glamour and whimsy. The pain, though, of sitting at the computer and working prevents her from realizing her ideas. Monica understood that frustration as only another artist can and offered herself as an amanuensis for Squinternet’s idea, collaborating with her in creating this first MiaMai for Donna Flora dress – a new release at the Donna Flora store.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Jul08_002

The Ayoun dress and clutch from Baiastice for the July round of Collabor88 is a delicately feminine little frock with a dropped blouson top and a gently gathered flounce skirt. With spaghetti straps and a deep cleavage, it bares a lot for the summer sun. It comes in ten solids and five prints. What is so exciting is that the five prints are all different, not just recolors. It seems the essence of summer. The lovely clutch purse has a subtle nod to summer with the fabric rose on the flap.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

My mother wanted to be an English teacher when she was growing up. Many of her older siblings went to college, but when she was still a child, my grandfather’s bank manager ran off with all the money in his bank. This was before FDIC, so people could have lost everything. Instead, my grandfather sold his mill, electric company, his farm and his house and made all the depositors whole even though he was not obligated to do so since it was a corporation. This left him impoverished and having to start over from scratch in his late sixties. He began again as a dairy farmer on contract to a local creamery, paying $1.00 per acre, but obligated to sell his produce only to that creamery for 30 years, a northern form of share-cropping.  This ended any chance my mom had of going to college.

Donna Flora Main Store Has Moved

jul06_004

Donna Flora has moved from the big sprawling romantic store with its secret rooms on Bonin to a more contemporary, streamlined store on Florencia. With Squinternet’s health keeping her from producing new items on a regular basis, she really needed to cut back, so she downsized from a full sim to a homestead. Her newest clothing has migrated to the new store and all of her jewelry is there as well. The old store will remain on Bonin for one last week and most of the older clothing that is there will be retired. While helping her move, I saw this dress, one of her early mesh pieces. I don’t remember seeing it before but I really liked the combination of a sleek sheath with the full sleeves.

Meanwhile at MiaMai, Monica Outlander made room for a satellite store for Donna Flora jewelry on her sim! This will allow people to continue to discover Donna Flora while shopping. She will also be producing some special designs in the near future, MiaMai for Donna Flora, with the sales all for Squinternet.

Americana Is Coming to FLUX July 4

Sophie and I are ready for Independence Day in the US in our patriotic colors. My dress is from 22769 and is one of of the sea of fun red, white and blue items that will be released Thursday at the grand reopening of FLUX. I’m a fan of wearing flag inspired but not actually “The Flag”. That debate never ends.

I picked up Sophie’s dress at Punkie Babies. They have a cute short outfit for boys too. Continue reading
