And Then It Was The 8th

Collabor88 landed with a BOOM and a THUD and the only other sound you heard was the sound of fashionistas heels clicking as they raced to get in. I am as excited as anyone with the gorgeous watercolor palette this round, it’s a very Gidgey experience.

KatatOnik right out of the gate and the adorable flats from Ingenue reminded me of the party dresses of yesteryear that I love so much. Is it wrong I want to dress like that every day? Continue reading

Help Me Find You on Marketplace

My afternoon began with a text from one of my best friends, Codie. “I need your help. I have to find something to wear to Dirk’s funeral.”

We spend a lot of time getting dressed for frivolous things in SL, things that don’t matter.  It’s amazing how your thoughts wander though, when what you are dressing for something that does in fact matter to you, when it’s not frivolity and trite.  Continue reading

Bacteria Free Second Life

0404_003A cold has been kicking my butt for six weeks now. I think it is almost gone and BAM! it’s back stronger than ever. That makes me so grateful for the relatively bacteria-free world of Second Life. You can get a cold in Second Life, but you have to buy it and you can take it off the minute you are sick of sneezing. I was sick of sneezing about a month ago and would love to detach that gesture right this minute.

Meanwhile, the lovely cardigan dress from Gizza is keeping me warm. I added the pencil skirt from League because the dress was a tad short for my taste. The dress comes with a HUD that allows you to change both the dress and the cardigan with three options each. Gizza made this dress in 4 iterations, floral, boho, hippie and solids and each and every one is irresistible.  Continue reading

Get OUT Raccoon

Every single time I log in, some asshat has been in my house. The doors are always wide open. Wouldn’t you know it this time, as I’m trying to OUT for the night I find a raccoon running through the house?

I am just trying to go out for the night! GO AWAY RACCOON!

Blowing in the Wind

0327_002

I stopped by League the other day, looking for some appliers for my Slink hands and almost forgot to buy them, I was so distracted by this gorgeous skirt and mohair sweater. I wanted to buy fat packs, but I was disciplined and settled on this gorgeous fuchsia. The sweater comes with a solid color or a gradient. I am wearing the gradient in this photo.

A lot of life’s answers are blowing in the wind, as the Bob Dylan song asserts. But what does that mean? Some people think it means the answers are right in front of our faces – answers we could pluck from the air if we only chose to do so. Myself, I think it means that the answers are unknowable, as imperceptible as the molecules on the wind. Of course, Bob Dylan’s explanation is as ambiguous as the song.

There ain’t too much I can say about this song except that the answer is blowing in the wind. It ain’t in no book or movie or TV show or discussion group. Man, it’s in the wind – and it’s blowing in the wind. Too many of these hip people are telling me where the answer is but oh I won’t believe that. I still say it’s in the wind and just like a restless piece of paper it’s got to come down some  …But the only trouble is that no one picks up the answer when it comes down so not too many people get to see and know . . . and then it flies away. I still say that some of the biggest criminals are those that turn their heads away when they see wrong and know it’s wrong. I’m only 21 years old and I know that there’s been too many   . . . You people over 21, you’re older and smarter.[*]

Not Five. Six. Six? Yes, Six!!!

Adore & Abhor Brithday

What comes in sixes?

All sorts of good things.  Even more than fives – there are six packs of beer, soda, and abs. There are six hot dog buns in a pack and strings on a guitar. Six is lucky – with six sides on a die. Six is so special it gets to be called a half dozen. There are six faces on a prim, which means six must be the most special number in Second Life, right?

And then, most importantly, six years that Adore & Abhor have graced the grid, providing us all with their own elements of design (wit, whimsy, imagination, creativity and talent). To celebrate, designers have created special celebratory items in honor of the festivities that open on March 16th at the Adore & Abhor store.

Space and Time and Shoes

1127_004
Shoetopia will be ending this weekend. When I logged on earlier today it was easy to get in, so if you have been waiting for it to slow down, now is your chance. Certainly one of the can’t miss items at Shoetopia are these amazing shoes from League. I love the rich texture and the beautiful details that are the quintessential League elements. League designs with a verisimilitude I love -the shoes are not too glossy, the metal is not too shiny. There’s little wrinkles around the curves and t-strap that show they have been worn a few times. That buckle embellishment on the back is such a great addition. I love every single thing about these shoes.

So on Monday I did a set at The Velvet in celebration of the 50th Anniversary Doctor Who special. For fellow Whovians, it was a delight, full of the kind of wit, warmth and good fun we expect from the series – all with the fate of the world in balance. I thought I would share since there is a fair amount of SL – Whovian overlap.

Meanwhile, I am still madly in love with the apothecary cabinet from Schadenfreuda for November’s Collabor88. I may pose with it forever.

Wascally Wools

1115_001

Gidge loves to show off her house and I love her posts showing her pixel life. I thought I might give you just a little peek into my house, too. I just redecorated a bit with some of the new items from this month’s Collabor88, including a magnificent chest and mannequin from Apple Fall, that Eiffel Marquee from floorplan. that I am obsessed with and a new bed from Pilot.

Chocolate Parfait

Oct08_006

I am in love with this new tunic/jacket combo from ISON for Collabor88. The high-low tunic is a slightly lighter shade of chocolate brown than the cutaway asymmetric leather wrap jacket. I love the modern minimal styling and the playing with form.

Prevention Is Everything

sept10_005

This is full of stuff from Collabor88, including the sign from floorplan. and the dress from League.

There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Well, when it comes to suicide, many times prevention is everything because there is no cure after death. Today is Suicide Prevention Day around the world and I wanted to take a moment to highlight a group in Second Life® that is doing their best to support people who are contemplating or have attempted suicide by connecting them to real world therapy and resources as well as providing information and support in-world. The Survivors of Suicide is a group of about 400 people who maintain an information center and informal drop-in center with group support meetings on Sundays and Mondays.

sept10_001

As you can see there is a lot of information. I dropped in to look around and there’s a room for folks to hang out, a game room and even a little shop to raise money to support the group’s land fees, etc. There were about a half dozen folks hanging out, all very friendly and welcoming even though I was just stopping by for a peek for the blog. I suppose we all know someone who has committed suicide. It has happened in my family. One brother-in-law shot himself when he became so sick with cancer, emphysema and cirrhosis that he could not live with it any more. Another brother-in-law drowned himself when the umpteenth different drug trial failed to treat his depression and his insurance company informed him that he has reached his lifetime maximum benefit and he would no longer be covered by insurance for anything. That is a cruelty of the health care system that will be eliminated by Obamacare on January 1st. The aftermath of suicide is a horrible trauma for families, one that is not really eased that much by understanding the motives and decisions. So this group is doing important work. You should check them out and be aware of what to look for and how to help family and friends who are in despair.
