Mami puts the flame on me with this fiery red gown that is an exclusive for Fashion For Life. 100% of the proceeds are donated to Fashion For Life. The fiery glow of this gown seems almost a metaphor for the flame of hope in all our hearts that working together, where our “two and two and fifty make a million,” we will change the future for all of us. Our efforts combined with others across the world will change the future by supporting the American Cancer Society. Fewer people will get cancer because of our combined efforts. More people will discover their cancer earlier and begin treatment sooner with a greater chance of success thanks to our combined efforts. Yesterday The Lab decided early AM was the perfect time for rolling restarts. I was sitting in my house, living my 2nd existence when I got a notice that I would be booted if I didn’t leave the sim in five minutes. My first thought was WHY IS GOGO RESTARTING THE SIM AT 7 AM? Alas, it wasn’t Gogo, she wasn’t online and then I realized it was The Lab.

I headed over to my studio, and got dressed, thinking I’d do a nice traditional shoot with a lovely casual release from ISON at Collabor88, except right about the time I’d gotten my wig on, again ROLLING RESTART IN MY REGION. Five minutes to move on. So, NOW WHERE? Continue reading →

When a Picture Is Not Enough

There were a few dresses at Fashion For Life that really needed more than a picture. A thousand words might help, but I think in this case a video that can be made easily with the help of Video production company Toronto is a better option. These two dresses from Likka House are great fun costumes. They would justify planning your own circus party – Look at the carousel horses. When you are running out and about you can turn them off so you won’t lag.

Ghee’s Gown of a Different Color and the Laced Up shoes are kind of crazy wonderful creations that reminds me of that old group, Not Possible In Real Life. Do you remember the group? I loved it and miss it quite a bit – it was a celebration of all that is special and unique about Second Life – just as these outfits are.

Forgive my poor videography, my computer is old and tired and when I do a video it crawls in a corner, curls into a fetal position and whimpers.

Only Four More Days of Fashion For Life

Have you been to Fashion For Life yet? If not, you only have four more days. There’s more than 150 stores across 10 beautifully designed sims. There’s no lag, so you can enjoy skateboarding in the skate park at FFL Perambulate or strolling on the sand at FFL Meander or enjoying a space bar worthy of Han Solo on FFL Promenade. For these pictures, I visited FFL Journey which explores steampunk stream transit with everything from steam cars to a steam hearse.

My jacket is from FBD Design one of the Champions sponsoring the sims these year. FBD is rebranding to Mooh! so in the future look for it under that name. I love the mix of punk and baroque elements in one jacket. It’s fun, funky and oh-so-fashionable.

Hats of Whimsy and Citrus

I had a tremendous giggle over these hats from Xen’s Hats. Textured with various fruits, they’re silly and fun.

Sometimes I just love something that was made for fun. You don’t need for it to be super meaningful or high fashion. It’s just damn fun.

When I was a noob, I bought purple hair at CAKE. My friends I came to SL with asked “Why is your hair purple?”  My only response was, “Because it can be.”

That is sort of the same for these hats from Xen’s. THEY CAN BE HATS OF FRUIT – therefore they are. They are also 100% donation from Fashion for Life event so you still have time to pick them up, for no other reason than they are a fun item and a great cause.

Fashion For Life Champions KL Couture, EMO-tions and Body Canvas.

The older I get, the more I realize how lucky I was as a child. I had two wonderful parents who loved me and never gave me a moment of doubt about it. Sometimes it seems that makes me an outlier when I hear friends share their painful and conflicted histories with their parents. So I am lucky. Even though they are both gone, I am lucky I have only the loss of missing them, undiluted by unresolved hurt and anger. Still Father’s Day and Mother’s Day are hard days for me. I miss them. Goodbye, Jimmy Scott

The LaPointe & Bastchild leather jacket and miniskirt are must-have investment pieces. The jacket is generously fitted so that it is easy to wear a top underneath (and comes with its own top included) and it and the skirt are classics. With a HUD to change textures, there are more than a dozen colors all in one. The shoes are from Pure Poison and that travel bag is from Redux. All are Fashion For Life exclusives.

The world became a little quieter on Thursday when Little Jimmy Scott, the incomparable jazz vocalist died at the venerable age of 88. My parents were fans and I grew up listening to his music. He was not a well-known singer and I have bonded with more than one person over our mutual love for his voice and music and utter loss as to why he was so unappreciated. Even the New York Times agrees, saying he was “”perhaps the most unjustly ignored American singer of the 20th century.” There’s a lovely article with several videos of his music here.

One reason he was so unappreciated is that his early label Savoy refused to allow him to record with other labels even after he was no longer with him. Like many artists of the 1950s and 60s, he was trapped by an abusive and exploitive record contract that kept him out of music for over 15 years – years he worked in as a cook, a nurse’s aide and hotel clerk. But he never gave up and never became bitter and was rewarded by a renaissance that brought him much deserved acclaim and a measure of justice.
