Taking in the Holiday Home Tour

I had a little free time so I decided to hit the road for the Holiday Home Tour this weekend (Contact Tymmerie Thorne for a NC of Slurls ASAP! It’s only today and tomorrow!). It was a gorgeous winter day to get out and I managed to get through three lovely homes before I had to get home to relieve the sitter. Continue reading

The Difference Between Simple And Elegant Is Style

Miamai’s Black Label event THE GOLDEN THREAD launched several gorgeous new releases. Shoes from Miamai are always something a fashionista needs, because the simplest touches, faux platform, gorgeous burst of purple on the heel, transform a traditional slip on strappy heel into a little work of art for your feet.

It’s that something extra in styling, that sets the truly unique apart and makes them not only coveted but admired as well.  These area  must have.

Now I wish I had some cute shoes to put on in RL!

Maitreya Comes To Collabor88

One of the things that makes Collabor88 a hallmark event each month is that the releases from the core group of designers are certain to be high quality, must have items. It’s a combination of talent, reputation and love of what they do that they put into every piece they release. Events get tired, and worn out. Collabor88 roars back in every month and it’s always the same chatter “I can’t get in.” “Someone leave Collabor88” “It’s been two days and I can’t get in”. This isn’t because of the cache of simply going. It’s because there are a core group of designers releasing great things that add beauty and style to our second lives, head to house. Hibernating

This month’s Collabor88 theme is hibernation – that urge to stay home, warm and snug and sleep through the cold, bitter winter. Today is a rare snow day in Portland and I would love to hibernate at home, but I have to go out into the cold.. Brrr! I ran out of time to blog before the bus arrives, so I hope you like the slideshow.

wakey wakey xmas breaky

It’s been quite some time since I’ve blogged here on It’s Only Fashion or anywhere else for that matter. Taking a break from virtual life and plurk life and sitting at my computer has been pretty refreshing. I’ve mostly just been getting ready for the holidays and spending more time with RL friends. I mean, I do check in from time to time, I have a sim and a store that I don’t want to completely ignore but it’s been nice to concentrate on other things. I highly recommend it.

I had some alone time earlier and thought I would log in and check out the xmas expo and all it’s holiday goodies. While there I purchased this vintage dress from Leri Miles Designs called Olani in Ginger Girl. This dress’ proceeds go to charity in support of Relay For Life.

Tree Trimming

My Christmas tree from LAQ Decor was a great find, Sasy recommended it when I was casting about for something new.  I haven’t been feeling well so comfy clothes from Somnia were perfect for my rainy night in.

Feeling crummy and wanting to do all the things is frustrating. Add to that gloomy weather, and a general malaise and decorating my tree was the most cheery thing I could think of to do. Continue reading

Keep It Simple

dec04_002

I completely fell in love with this coat from Topazia even though I am wearing it without its fur cuffs and collar. It comes in 9 lovely colors and is styled to easily wear over a dress or skirt. The collar and cuffs are typical prim fur with the typical alpha glitches that only disappear when viewed from the right direction. I thought the coat looked more chic and modern without them. However, for a more luxe look you can certainly add them. For me, I will go with the clean lines of the simple mesh coat.

As you can see, it’s not lacking for design details that define it as a high end coat with the caplet bodice and the lovely bow. The dress, worn a size smaller peek sour where it should and not where it should not. The little handbag from Cherry is delicious.

The Holiday Home Tour – I’ll Start With Me!

I spent the better part of a week hunting the new and the awesome to decorate my house for this Christmas season. I have to admit I’m a little sad that the Arcade didn’t open in time for me to add some of the lovely things I’ve seen that are coming but eh, I’ll get them in what- 3 weeks when you can get in? 🙂 Oh who am I kidding? I’ll totally get them at yardsales – tomorrow.

I am so excited about the holiday home tour. My mother and I used to always go to holiday home tours when I lived near her, it was a glimpse at a house I’d never have – kind of like day dreaming a little fantasy – and sharing it with your mom. But in SL we can all have whatever kind of house we want. I love to see how people express their holiday joy when they decorate. I hope you enjoy mine.

The living room is always the room I work on first as I consider it the room for entertaining and socializing. Plus it’s what you see first when you walk in the room.

Trompe Loeil has a really comfy holiday sofa and I combined it with some chairs from What Next, a pillow basket and coffee table from earlier releases of Trompe Loeil as well. Continue reading

Thankfulness

nov28_006

There are some great pieces that can be mixed and matched at Collabor88. The top from Aux works brilliantly with the pants from Baiastice for example. I just had to wear one size smaller pant to make sure there were no stray spots bumping through in the back.

Despite the false mythology of our first Thanksgiving and the martial origins of the official Thanksgiving holiday, Thanksgiving remains one of my favorite holidays. I acknowledge that sordid history, but I love that we have a holiday that is not about anything more than gathering with friends and family to focus with gratitude on the richness and plenitude of our lives. It’s unfortunate that it’s been invade by retail commercialism and ever-more-desperate consumerism, but that is on us. We allow it. And we can bring the holiday back to food, family and thankfulness if we care enough.

I am thankful for many things in my life, but for this post, I want to focus on those things that make me thankful in my Second Life®. First and foremost, I am thankful that Second Life exists and for its culture of creativity, liberality and freedom that allows people to express themselves as they wish to – as people, birds, horses, monsters, cats, dragons and even oscillating balls of light. I am thankful that Linden Lab and Philip Rosedale had that brilliant insight that the users could be allowed to make the world and it could be interesting. I am thankful that LL keeps advancing adding new ways to make our world more beautiful, from Windlight to mesh to materials to whatever comes next, our world evolves and because more beautiful all the time.

So,Your Dinner Is Ready!

I had to do some last minute shopping at MY ATTIC before it closes, as well as Shoetopia, for the perfect hostess look for my Thanksgiving meal. I also cooked a turkey and made a huge meal, so I hope you come over and eat.

I’ll never finish this giant bird alone! Continue reading
