I decided to go out exploring the winter fun to be had in SL today, so I had to take a bit to get properly geared up. Cute but warm is the goal – it’s hard to be cute sometimes, especially in RL, when you’re layered upon layers upon layers. I decided to have some fun with my ability to layer on my SLINK PHYSIQUE starting with a sweater from Stellar on the body, then adding mesh over it for a cute RL layered look. I don’t have any plans in SL this NYE. I have a new roombah with a cat/dragon on it vacuuming (thank you SO MUCH) around my house and New Year’s Rockin Eve on the TV and that’s going to have to be good enough for me to close the year. When I wake up tomorrow it’s a new year. That’s always such an odd feeling, a year has passed. How did that happen?
I have to make some adjustments to my SL for 2015 and to my RL but they aren’t RESOLUTIONS. Resolutions always feel false to me. These are more, life changes that I’ve just been putting off because I’m lazy. Not the same at all. I may continue to put them off for a while. We’ll see. Continue reading

For me, this time, color seemed to be a recurring element in those I chose to highlight.

The idea for this column, or more accurately for its precursor What I Like at Shopping Cart Disco, came from the daily plurks of a former SL resident who left several years ago. Each day she would do a WTF plurk and share her critiques of SL photos. Sometimes feelings were hurt and she defended her plurks and advice to help people take better photos. It seemed to me that you could achieve the same ends by highlighting what people did right instead of focusing on what people did wrong. Why do I mention this?
One of her big complaints was people who shot pictures with backgrounds in a similar color to their clothing. She hated to see clothing disappear into the background. Well,, here is a photo from 나나 that proves that rather than disappearing, the similarity between background and dress intensifies our focus. After all, if we look closely, the skirt is clearly delineated. It is there, but we have to stop, focus and look for it. I love this picture. The subject is well off center, which makes for a more dynamic feeling. The close crop that requires us to interact with the picture, completing it in our minds also intensifies our attention. The bright scarlet red says STOP and demands we look. Everything about this picture says look at me and she knows it – hence the ironic title of the picture. Continue reading
Baiastice is always on my short list for gowns/dresses when someone needs ideas of what to wear for special events. NYE in SL should be a time to SPLURGE and get that one dress that he/she/your robot/your cthulu/your hamster/whatever it is you’re into won’t forget. I don’t know about you, but for me, ponchos have always been problematic. I bought my first poncho in Spain – knit with thick, luxurious wool and closing at the neckline with gorgeous unvarnished wood buttons. It was so warm and cozy and it felt like wearing a blanket, which meant it really needed to be worn on cold days. So here’s the thing. In Minnesota, if it’s cold enough to wear that poncho, it’s too cold to wear that poncho. The wind would blow up underneath and chill me to the bone. An engineering flaw for cold weather. So every time I see ponchos, I think of my few attempts wearing my gorgeous poncho and remember those bone-chilling gusts of wind sneaking in underneath and think – nope, not for me.
What I needed was one more like this poncho from Zenith – to wear indoors kind of like a high fashion snuggle. But it’s Second Life and so even though there’s snow falling and the pond is frozen over, the winds that ruffle my hair are soft zephyrs carrying billowing warmth – not bone-chilling blasts from Polar Vortex.

I’m excited to be reveling in winter in SL while having lovely days in RL. Yay for living in a warmer part of the country. I am not sure what the new year holds, a lot of people are making resolutions. Do you make them? I sometimes feel like resolutions are just attention whoring “Look at me look at me!” but maybe they’re genuine attempts at making positive changes. It’s definitely not for me to say!
I’m excited a new year is coming, and changes are ahead. I hope you are too.

My presents are wrapped, mostly. I think I’m done. I hope I’m done. I have new GORGEOUS gift boxes from Alouette if you’re looking for some. I get annoyed when I still see gift boxes that are like 20 prims. Really? These are awesome and low land impact for your decorating pleasure. I prefer to put my gifts under the tree and I got a script from Artizan for delivery, it only will give each box to the person I designate. I dreamed I was there in Jacket Heaven and oh what a beautiful dream. But then, it was not a dream! Tres Blah really did release a perfect jacket in five metallics just in time for Christmas. I love jackets and need them desperately because so many tops and dresses are strapless. I don’t mind strapless in a formal, but for everyday – nope, not for me. I want some sleeves! These jackets are sold along with some cute rompers at N°21, the event that just opened yesterday. Yes, I hit teleport several times to get in, but once I was there, everything razzed easily and quickly and I cam-shopped happily.
Speaking of formals, Baiastice has released the annual Winter Collection of formals just in time for the holidays and they are gorgeous. This classic comes with a regular skirt or one with a tulle overskirt. I elected to wear the tulle. I snapped a picture when I was over at The Liaison Collaborative picking up the necklace and earrings I am wearing. It’s beautifully decorated for the holidays.
