Babes in the woods

Here it is Halloween and I have not posted one costume. This is not actually a costume, either, but a lovely Victorian Lace nightgown that could be worn year round. However, something about it reminds me of the most frightening of Mother Goose rhymes, Babes in the Woods:

My dear do you know,
How a long time ago,
Two poor little children,
Whose names I don’t know,
Were stolen away
On a fine summers day,
And left in a wood,
As I’ve heard people say,

Poor babes in the wood! poor babes in the wood!
Oh! don’t you remember the babes in the wood?

And when it was night,
So sad was their plight,
The sun it went down,
And the moon gave no light!
They sobbed and they sighed,
And they bitterly cried,
And the poor little things,
They lay down and died.

Poor babes in the wood! poor babes in the wood!
Oh! don’t you remember the babes in the wood?

And when they were dead,
The robins so red
Brought strawberry leaves,
And over them spread;
And all the day long,
The branches among,
They mournfully whistled,
And this was their song;

Poor babes in the wood! poor babes in the wood!
Oh! don’t you remember the babes in the wood?

The nightgown from Studio Sidhe is such an iconic gown that would be appropriate for so many interpretations. I could imagine it as Mina’s gown in Bram Stoker’s Dracula or the nightie that Anne of Green Gables wore when reenacting the Lady of Shallot on the pond. I can see Jo March and her sisters wearing it, too. But, it’s Halloween and this gown reminds me of the heartbreaking illustration of Babes in the Woods from my childhood Illustrated Mother Goose and the little white  nightie worn by the little girl.

If You Go Out In The Woods Tonight….

posted by Gidge Uriza

It seemed like a simple enough plan, I’d go out into the woods and shoot this gorgeous gown from L & S- aptly named Brigette – Dainty which you know tickled me.  Of course a girl by herself should be careful in the woods.

After all you never know what matter of demon or beast you’re going to run into, now do you? Continue reading

A Lazy Sunday on the Beach

posted by Gidge Uriza

After spending a very cold Saturday in the RL Mountains, I decided I wanted pixel sun and sand on Sunday, so I grabbed my fishin’ pole and headed to Exodi to do a little relaxing fishing.

I gotta go back cuz I didn’t get the whole outfit.

But I digress.

I’ve got this huge closet full of Magi Take clothes because their prices are just so crazy low and their stuffs are cute. So I pulled out a casual sweater and cords and relaxed on Ryker Beck’s island paradise. Continue reading

Mobile Home Princess

Yes she’s a Trailer Park Woman

She’s a Mobile Home Princess

She’s the QUEEN OF MANUFACTURED HOUSING!

I was doing another mishmash when I got inspired to make a Halloween Costume out of my inventory – to put beautiful things together in a way that no creator ever intended – just to rock some trailer park style.

Seriously, you know I just spent the night at a club partying with random guys and doing snakebites.

Luckily I’ve got this comfy bedroom situated right off the kitchen – built in furniture FTW!

Ok, I might be daffy with giddyness at being back. But I was having way too much fun shooting this – and being silly.

And – I think Kavar may have created my favorite JBF hair ever, whether he meant to or not.

Let’s Party!

Trailer Park Style Notes:

  • Shape – Gidge Custom Shape by Hatchy Mills
  • Skin – Aimesi – Amely in Cashmere
  • Hair – Exile – Kalea in Ash
  • Eyes – PXL Creations – glow eyes in FATE
  • Top – Pixel Dolls – Atlantis in Violet
  • Pants – BOO by Sascha’s Designs

Number 100: Artis Natur

When I chose the shoes for this outift I realized I was shooting the 100th Adam n Eve post and decided that it only made sense to head over to their lovely landscaped photo park to take the pictures. Artis Natur is great for photos as you can rez your posestand or use a pose hud and snap away.  I love the feeling of walking through an impressionist painting. I also love the Kunglers Jacket I chose for this outfit. It’s called Cristiana and this floral option is a beautiful ode to chinoiserie. The rich skirt is from A la Folie.

Houndstooth, Polka Dots and Tiger Stripes, Oh My!

Yes, you can wear Houdstooth, Polka Dots and Tiger Stripes together. It’s a question of scale and tone – not that the patterns conflict. They don’t because they are on the same scale and use the same color palette. When I saw the Houndstooth coat at Muism (which was 50% for their anniversary sale) I had to have it. Such retro chic and the classic lines are something a style icon like Jackie O might have worn over a black or white Oscar de la Renta shift dress. Audrey Hepburn would have worn it over black cigarette pants and a heavy knit sweater. Katherine Hepburn would have worn it over grey wool pants and a white man’s shirt.  I saw many outfits in my mind, but I wanted to push it a bit and go with prints. It was pure serendipity that I received a blogger pack from A-Bomb right when I was contemplating my options.

Between Oubliette & MoonSong

My friend Faery Sola who makes the best damn pants in Second Life opened her own sim named MoonSong this weekend with two stores, her Studio Sidhe (pronouced She if you’re wondering) and FlipSide. I went to the grand opening party which was a lot of fun and want to congratulate her on her beautiful sim. Now, her sim is next to another gorgeous sim, Oubliette, and between those two sims there is this lovely bridge and that’s where I happened to shoot my pictures for this outfit which is a mashup for Muism and Sn@tch. Please do explore these beautiful sims – where some of my favorite SL residents and designers can be found.

Feeling Partial to Portia

Saschi Vixen of Adam N Eve has just released two new skins, including the vibrant Portia that I am wearing today. She dropped a few promotional copies my way, but when I saw what rich makeups she made, I had to hop over and pick up some more. I have to make special mention of her vendor system, though, because it’s pure genius. First, I recommend joining the group because the vendor discounts 10% for group members. When you select the skin you want, you are offered the chance to keep shopping and make your own custom fat pack. It was simple to use and the combined discount was 33% and being able to custom make a fat pack if fantastic. The first makeup that went into my pack was this Evergreen, because us green-eyed redheads drool over green shadow.

When I first saw the makeup, I knew I wanted to shoot it in the moonlight. It has that luminosity that the moonlight could only enhance. My friend Bhaio Shan had just advised me to check out Noah’s Ark – and when I saw the photo in the landmark, I know it would be perfect so now I just had to choose a dress. This is a great sim for shooting though you can only use huds as you cannot rez.

Well, it may be called the Krisha Sun Dress, but I think it rocked the moonlight. The dress if from ROC and I love the big bold floral print and loved shooting it among the fantastic flowers on the sim.  Now it’s chilly running around in the water in the moonlight – so I added the lovely lace cardigan from Coco. Every piece of this is tintable – and you saw it just the other day in mauve – same cardigan, just tinting away.

Moody Blues

The moment I put the Rebel X dress created for the final SwanSong event at Black Swan, I knew it had to be shot at Templum ex Obscurum. The dress is the exact color of the glow in the trees and on the water – and has the same wild moodiness and extravagant commitment to an aesthetic.  Even knowing it would work, I confess I was shocked at how perfectly the dress and the sim go together.

I had to try out some of the poses strategically seeded around the sim. This one is near the entrance. As a water-lover, I have daydreamed along the shoreline, enjoying the ebb and flow of the waves…so this pose was certainly one that spoke to me.

Moondance

Well, its a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
neath the cover of october skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And Im trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the nights magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

It’s always a marvelous night for a Moondance at Chakryn Forest where I went to shoot this lovely dress I picked up at the 50% off sale at Aohuru last week. Nothing  says summer quite so well as a floral dress and moonlit summer nights – they are for dancing.  Shining in the moonlight, the stunning necklace from RS Designs.  I love the colors and the not too bright bling-free shimmer of the jewelry. There’s a lot of marvelous jewelry at RS Designs – but not all of her work is on the floor. If you check Roxana Sommerstein’s picks – you can see that you can purhcase non-displayed work from her directly.
