Something Supernatural

Helena Stringer - IOF - Supernatural - The Gang
One night on plurk I saw a post asking if anyone would like to do some crossdressing Supernatural cosplay, and I said sure why not. That is how I became Rufus, a wily grump haunted by his own horrid hunter’s past.

I choose this shot out of many simply because it was a different view than what some of the others took.

Flitting around Oubliette

Oubliette (1)

Yesterday i went to the Fantasy Gatcha Festival, and immediately got sucked in. It’s not that the place is just my avatar’s style so much as that it has excellent stuff. I mean, the horn gatcha alone made me stand around obsessively feeding it L until I got this pretty set of rare horns. I don’t want to go back and complete a few gatchas, but I think I might have to…

I put on this wash of fairy kei-colored clothing (the Katat0nik skirt is perfect fairy kei style) and headed to Oubliette to photo. This sim is ridiculously nice on a good computer, and even then bits of it wander in and out of rez because it’s so dense and pretty. It looks to be going through a bit of renovation, but despite that, the fields and grottos are always magical. I’ll probably spend the week here trying to capture the magic I see in the sim. As always, a few more photos and the outfit credits are after the jump…

Why We Love Donna Flora

aug04_004

I know why I love Squinternet Larnia. I love her because whenever I found a sim that was cool and I wanted to share it with someone, she dropped everything to come look. I love her because she was always ready to come dancing or exploring. I love her because she always asked how I was doing and wanted an honest answer, not a glib okay. I love her because she is funny, quirky and stubborn. I am really counting on that stubborn nature now.

But why do we love Donna Flora? I suppose it could be because she is a generous and charitable creator who was there with her support for every event and charity that asked.  I suppose it could be longevity. It could be her skill, the ability to make things that look and fit well. However, I think it’s more to do with how her wild and creative designs speak to our hearts. Seriously, if you told me there was a dress with pink satin, black tulle covered with giant pink peonies and big, gold flowers, I would roll my eyes and laugh at the idea. But then, take a look at this dress. It is exactly that and should be a hot mess of kitsch and instead it a hot melange of romance and glamour. It is pure genius. And with genius, we have two choices, love it or hate it? And we love it.

Bird shapes cut from the sky

China, China (2)

I went to the Chinese Bamboo Garden sim today to rest my mind. It’s been a contemplative Sunday, full of yard work and lying around with my iPad, and as a small observance of the Day of Rest, I thought I’d zen out for a moment. I really dig this little sim. It has a few places to lie beneath the bamboo trees, and nothing at all to do but watch the shadows of birds flit across the papery sky.

There’s Acha with her enormous /artilleri/ Lumoflex, ready to record every peaceful moment. That reminds me to pick up a few more cameras in Second Life, now that my second Second Life career as a travel photographer is keeping me so occupied… More photos and the outfit credits are behind the cut!

Cats and Whimsy

aug01_012

I fell for the whimsical dress from CIA Designs that is on sale at Love Donna Flora as soon as I saw those cats peeking over the black line. I love polka dots in the first place and polka dots and cats and this entire feeling of fun and whimsy is charming.

Let Me Introduce You To AUGUST FLUX Round

The FLUX Event this month is a Tiki Trailer park kitsch theme that is irresistible. The shopping kiosks are located on the various sandbar islands and up the hill in the trailers overlooking the whole build.

It’s a bloggers paradise with lots of great vignettes waiting for you to take pics of island and beachy themed fun, plus there are lots of goodies from props to clothes and more that I’m enjoying this round.

Dead Dolls has released a very simple but perfect summer sundress that happens to coordinate awesomely both in style and tone with the cherry red heels BOOM released at COLLABOR88 this month (PS ENDING SOON in case you didn’t go). Continue reading

Forgotten City on a good computer

Forgotten City (1)

Once, a long time ago, Jackal took me to see Forgotten City. I could barely move, and barely rez any of it, but what I saw was pretty memorable. I went back on my husband’s not-a-Mac and stared around in awe at the neat build. Some things in Second Life withstand time, even though we live dog years in this realm.

I still find the meditation upon fortune and misfortune, growth and decay, very interesting. From the crumbling lands nearest the water, the tall pillars rise that support the towering manses. It’s quite a visual metaphor. I love it when Second Life makes me think! A few more pictures of the build (and outfit credits) are behind the cut.

I’m seeing red

Sometimes I feel like the reason I have so little to say, especially when it comes to blogging is because my son talks enough for everyone and their cousins. Seriously, it’s like non stop all day. It’s really driving me crazy. It’s like that episode of Family Guy where Stewie is all “mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy mommy” “WHAT” “hi teehee”.  So, when I blog I just wanna get in the zone and listen to music and edit pictures. When it’s time to actually write about it I’m all zombied out.

Do people actually read big long blog post?

Fairy Lights and Forest Nights

I’m not actually an elf. I’m pretending to be one. I’m an elf who had plastic surgery to get her ears fixed. Now I regret it, and I’ve returned to the forest in search of my pointy eared brethren.  I decided if I was going to pretend to be an elf who had plastic surgery and now was returning to the forest in search of my pointy eared brethren, I’d need a forest. And that’s a funny story. Continue reading
