Not Five. Six. Six? Yes, Six!!!

Adore & Abhor Brithday

What comes in sixes?

All sorts of good things.  Even more than fives – there are six packs of beer, soda, and abs. There are six hot dog buns in a pack and strings on a guitar. Six is lucky – with six sides on a die. Six is so special it gets to be called a half dozen. There are six faces on a prim, which means six must be the most special number in Second Life, right?

And then, most importantly, six years that Adore & Abhor have graced the grid, providing us all with their own elements of design (wit, whimsy, imagination, creativity and talent). To celebrate, designers have created special celebratory items in honor of the festivities that open on March 16th at the Adore & Abhor store.

No. 7 Sporty Lipsticks – A Review from Skin Fair

I like the sporty pack of lipsticks from No. 7 at Skin Fair. They’re a bit out of my lane but I thought the color combos and the gloss was flawless.

I have a slight quibble in that there is definite pixelation up close.  You can see this in the above picture, the smaller images look flawless but the larger one does show it a bit at the top. Continue reading

Back In Business and Ain’t It Grand

mar13_006

Putting on the suit from ISON for Collabor88 this month, the wonderful song performed by Eartha Kitt came to mind. I tried to find it on YouTube for you, but it was not there. However, I found this beautiful interview with Eartha on love and compromise reminding me again what an amazing and vital woman she was. Even her speaking voice sounds like music.

Yesterday it seemed the world was about to end, didn’t it?
Looked as though it woudln’t last out the year.
Yesterday disaster waited around the bend.
Well, my friend. Spring is here.

Back in business, and ain’t it grand?
Let the good times roll.
Yesterday things were out of hand.
Now they’re under control.

Skin Fair Gets Ready to Kick Off

I like vintage swim suits a lot. I suppose it’s because half of SL has their bits hanging out all the dang time, I find it more alluring to cover mine up.

Surf Co. has an offering of summer funtimes items at The Arcade and this not so little bikini is one of them.

I thought it was a great time to trot out a bikini when I’m ready to launch into what will probably we a WEEK of really sharing great skins from skin fair. Yes, a week. There is a lot of awesome.

My goals for Skin Fair this year are two fold. One goal is to find a new every day go to skin to add to my repertoire. I have a handful of trusted, quality skinners that I wear regularly. But it feels like branching out and adding another one or two is in order. Who knows what gems I will find? My other goal is to stretch my wings and try out skins that while they might not be me, are creative and inviting to wear.  Continue reading

Fashion and Furnishings

This gorgeous new Belted Dress from Gizza demonstrates how much textures affect clothing. Giz Seom made this with a casual, everyday argyle as well as this glamorous club-hopping snakeskin. The argyle has a turtleneck collar as well while the snakeskin has a jeweled necklace that I decided not to wear – going for something simpler. You can see the options from the vendor picture below.

Meanwhile, The Arcade has inspired me to have a vacation home in the mountains. The lodge from Scarlet Creative is a snug, small little cabin which is what you want. You don’t want such a big vacation home that you spend all your vacation cleaning. I have been decorating it with lots of items from The Arcade, including the wonderful ISPACHI wood carvings. There were some excellent electric signs from Seven Emporium and you can assume what you will about the one I chose.

The Arcade Is Coming in T Minus SOOON

Vespertine is releasing some gacha pieces for the book lover who really adores the look of books throughout their dwelling. They’re amazing pieces to create little vignettes for a blog, or just to enhance the narrative of your own Second Life.

Tres Blah has an assortment out, some adorable spring themed items for your home, I’ve got a few goodies and I confess I’m going to have more if I have my way.

I admit I love little personality pieces to spice up the look of my home. I’m a sucker for silhouettes.

And if those goodies weren’t fun enough, I’m also off for a weekend of relaxing at the beach in my new Tres Blah camper and some other items from their spring collection for THE ARCADE.

The Arcade opens at 12:01 AM SLT on 3/1/2014 and these are just a few of the NOT to be missed pieces of awesome this round.

Get on your marks.

Soufflés and Table Lamps

0217_002

Sometimes I am curious how designers choose the names of their outfits. A lot of designers give their dresses names of women and I sometimes wonder why a blue shirt dress is a Helen instead of say, an Eleanor. What makes a Lisa or a Maria dress? I am always happy, then, when I see a dress and the genesis of the name is clear. For example, this dress from Snowpaws for The Style Icon is called Soufflé and it’s obvious the puffs of fabric that rise up around the waist are the inspiration, though I doubt this skirt will fall if you slam the oven door.

My Calendar is Changing

0218_002

I stopped off at the memorial garden for Squint the other day. I have been thinking about Squint (Squinternet Larnia of Donna Flora) a lot lately. I agreed to organize Fashion For Life, the fashion fundraising event for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. I am sure I was asked because of my role organizing Love Donna Flora on her behalf last year. Like most of us, cancer has impinged on my life in many ways and continues to do so.

Right now, my niece is struggling with a particularly virulent form of cancer that has her driving 340 miles to the Mayo Clinic several times a month. A friend and former colleague is flying from Portland to Philadelphia for an experimental cancer vaccine treatment. Who knew cancer came with frequent flyer miles? Another friend’s father just learned Monday that his prostate cancer has not responded as they has hoped and he must try another treatment regimen. Last month yet another cousin died of cancer and I won’t even begin to count the losses in my extended family. My cousins number in the hundreds – so yeah, I don’t even want to start counting.

I do not know how senior citizens do it. I am far away from that demographic and already my calendar is changing from one that was almost nothing but birthdays and wedding anniversaries to an ever-growing collection of anniversaries of loss. And too many of those losses are due to cancer.

Fashion For Life Registration is Open

That is just one of the many reasons why I support Fashion For Life and through it, the American Cancer Society whose programs not only research better treatments, but advocate for prevention, early detection, provide support to people living with cancer all while focusing on the long term goal of ending this global scourge that takes over 8 million people a year. Whether as a designer or a shopper, you can make a difference. Please go to the Fashion For Life web site and mark your calendars for June 7th – 20th.

Stupid Little Dogs

I am not a dog person. This is pretty well known. I kind of DISLIKE dogs. Not the actual dogs. The idea of dogs. I’ve actually known some dogs in this world that I liked quite well. I even loved one or two.  But no, in general, I am not into dogs.

My grandparents however, had a set of old lady friends, “The Beason Girls” they were called, and they were sisters in law whose husbands had died. They loved little dogs. They were the sort of ladies who always had on gloves and a hat, and their shoes and purse matched. They brought their little dogs with them wherever they went.

When I was young, I was always curious about their dogs, they seemed to go through a LOT of dogs. Later I learned, that this was due to vacationing in Florida, along a freshwater canal. If you ever lived in Florida, you know that sending little dogs outdoors in some areas is akin to chumming for alligators. Thus, the Beason Girls had a lot of new little dogs.

I would ask my grandfather what types of dog, their dogs where, and he’d invariably say “Oh some stupid little dog.” And when they were arriving he’d wonder, “I wonder what stupid little dog they got this time?”

So when I saw this be-sweatered stupid little dog at The Mens Department from BIRDY well, you know it had to be mine.

Because – I can only HOPE to ever be as glamorous as The Beason Girls.
