The Market

1506230_002

My favorite farmer’s market in Portland is on the South Park Blocks. I love walking on the grass under the cool, shady trees. There’s something so much fresher and vibrant about that setting than the many other markets set up in concrete parking lots under the hot sun. There was one right next to my old apartment, less than a block away, and I still preferred the wonderful shady, tree-sheltered market downtown. Folks in Second Life® can put their markets anywhere they like, so I chose a grassy spot with trees.

My dress is from Bomshire – a new to me store. It is a dress with a simple black top and a vibrant print skirt. I simply love it.

Over the river and through the woods

141201_004

Since my five siblings were married before I turned four, I essentially grew up at Grandma’s House. My mom and dad were Grandma and Grandpa. My nieces and nephews loved to come stay during summer break and during Christmas vacation. Living a lake with more than twenty miles of forest behind us, there were always plenty of things to do.

We loved to have winter skating parties. My dad, my uncle and I would clear a big square on the ice and put up posts about every eight to ten feet, stringing Christmas lights from post to post, encircling the open skating area. We piled a big stack of wood and brush at the deep end for a  bonfire and set down some logs around them for seating while we roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. We laid an old wooden door on the piled snow for a table for our hotdogs and marshmallows for roasting and there was always a pot of baked beans and some casseroles resting on cans of Sterno® to balance the meal. Picnicking in the snow is something not to be missed!

Mom had an outdoor speaker system to pipe music down to the lake and we danced on our skates. My brother would bring his sleigh and horses, the neighbors would bring their snowmobiles. We partied for hours and the signal to go home was when the bonfire melted through the ice and fell into the lake  – which usually took about four hours or so since the ice was so thick.

Casual Friday: So Casual I’m Tardy

Gabby and I went FLF shopping and I had to stop off at Vespertine because I wanted the wall art for my house. I happened to stumble into her gacha room with all of her old ARCADE round items – and OMG I WANTED THIS CAR. I gave it a few pulls, got some cute pieces from this set (I already had several) but alas. NO CAR. Continue reading

In Dreams

I built a fort in my living room for no better reason than that I could. I brought my records and some snacks, and determined to live in my fort for the night. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I was hearing the end of The Jerk in my head as I planned it. “And some watermelon, and this record player….and THAT’S ALL I NEED, and these sandwiches…”

If you’re old enough, you’ll laugh. Continue reading

All Good Things Come to an End

0330_002

Three very good things are coming to an end. The quarterly gacha festival at The Arcade ends today. The annual Skin Fair has ended and the March cycle of Collabor88 is nearing its end as well. If you have been waiting for the crowds to thin before going in for your mad shopping spree – today’s the day. This post features a little from all of them. The lovely skirt suit is from u.f.o. for Collabor88. It’s the quintessential suit for the modern professional woman.  Continue reading

Fashion and Furnishings

This gorgeous new Belted Dress from Gizza demonstrates how much textures affect clothing. Giz Seom made this with a casual, everyday argyle as well as this glamorous club-hopping snakeskin. The argyle has a turtleneck collar as well while the snakeskin has a jeweled necklace that I decided not to wear – going for something simpler. You can see the options from the vendor picture below.

Meanwhile, The Arcade has inspired me to have a vacation home in the mountains. The lodge from Scarlet Creative is a snug, small little cabin which is what you want. You don’t want such a big vacation home that you spend all your vacation cleaning. I have been decorating it with lots of items from The Arcade, including the wonderful ISPACHI wood carvings. There were some excellent electric signs from Seven Emporium and you can assume what you will about the one I chose.

Books, Books and More Books

mar01_005

As interesting as many of Berry’s memes may be, I skip most of them because I have my own voice and don’t want my own posts and ideas lost in weekly memes. However, this week’s meme is about one of my favorite things – books! I cannot resist.

  1. Are you a bookworm? – Yes, I usually have a fiction and nonfiction book and a magazine in the process of being read at all times.
  2. Which do you prefer: hardcover, paperback or electronic? – Paperback. I like the size, they are lightweight which is nice since I have had arthritis in my hands since I was twelve. I like my Kindle, but when I fall asleep reading it and it drops and hits me on the nose, it hurts more than a paperback.
  3. Which book is your favorite? – I have many favorites for different reasons, but one that go back to again and again and have re-read more than any other is Black Lamb and Grey Falcon by Rebecca West. There is a singular precision to her prose that I love. If you read it, you will know that the common “we didn’t know” excuses from the Allies about the Holocaust are untrue. They knew, she wrote about it before the war.
  4. Which children’s book is your favorite? – Pippi Longstocking. There is no other contender no matter what my sister says. She claims it is Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, but that’s her favorite book, not mine. I don’t even remember reading it.
  5. What’s the last book you’ve read? – The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P.  At first I thought it was going to be too hipster for me, but it was not.  I loved it.  Continue reading

The Arcade Is Coming in T Minus SOOON

Vespertine is releasing some gacha pieces for the book lover who really adores the look of books throughout their dwelling. They’re amazing pieces to create little vignettes for a blog, or just to enhance the narrative of your own Second Life.

Tres Blah has an assortment out, some adorable spring themed items for your home, I’ve got a few goodies and I confess I’m going to have more if I have my way.

I admit I love little personality pieces to spice up the look of my home. I’m a sucker for silhouettes.

And if those goodies weren’t fun enough, I’m also off for a weekend of relaxing at the beach in my new Tres Blah camper and some other items from their spring collection for THE ARCADE.

The Arcade opens at 12:01 AM SLT on 3/1/2014 and these are just a few of the NOT to be missed pieces of awesome this round.

Get on your marks.

Get set….
