It All Comes Together at Relay Weekend

There have been Relay for Life fundraising events going on for several months now and they will all come together in the annual culmination of Relay season with Relay Weekend. Relay Weekend kicks off with an Opening Ceremony at 10 A.M. SLT on the 19th and continues for 24 hours as folks walk the 40 sim track. The walk continues for 24 hours because cancer never sleeps and neither can the efforts to prevent, treat and cure cancer.

Fashion For Life has a campsite along the Relay track. Grace Loudon who brilliantly organized the Fashion For Life builds created this build while also heading the team of builders and build organizers for the forty sims for this weekend. With bolts of fabric, dressmaker forms, scissors, thread and other sewing notions, this build emphasizes the FASHION in Fashion For Life.  Continue reading →

This is only her second release and already she’s working in prints and not doing strapless. That’s ambition. Rest from Vain Fancies

I am full of relaxation today. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because stressful things ended, maybe it’s a new attitude. Maybe it’s just Friday.  Regardless, it’s a good thing to feel peaceful inside your own head.

I have several cool things happening on pixel Gidge today. The first one is this lovely bed, from Sway’s. You hear from time to time on plurk “Waaaah we’re sick of events waaaaa” and while maybe some are, many are not. However, there’s not doubt that I definitely miss mainstore releases. I miss having a lovely gauntlet of shops that I couldn’t wait for their next IN STORE release. Sway appealed to our love our Gacha as well as our desire to shop at mainstores by releasing a really adorable bed, the Dreamfloat hanging bed. A Get Away Spot

When I was growing up my Dad’s friend had a trailer down on the river. There was a little community of ramshackle trailers of various ilk, and on the weekend, everyone would head down there for some time, sitting, relaxing, fishing, or whatever.

A lot of card games were played, and rather random foods consumed. Chips with strange dips, donuts and maybe a hot dog might make up your lunch. It just all depended on who you were visiting when it was time to eat something. Continue reading →

From Blogger to Creator

I am always excited when a blogger becomes a clothing designer. I think of Milla Michanaga who formed MichaMi and Elysium Elide who started elymode and recognize that both of them focused long and hard on construction quality. I think that, being bloggers, they had this pre-formed set of standards that created a daunting hurdle to overcome before they began to release. Having noted construction flaws in other work, they felt an obligation to do as they say and held themselves to higher standards. So, when Thalia Heckroth™ told me she was moving into clothing design, I was excited. This is her first release and I am pleased to say she continues the tradition.

Second Life Synchronicity or Ballaké

Second Life fashion is full of moments of synchronicity and this is one. It all started with the dress from Baiastice. It was released in many solid colors and prints, but I was most drawn to this earth-toned batik. I was fidgeting about, trying to choose hair and MiaMai released some gorgeous turbans with an Afro-centric inspiration and this tobacco version is perfect with the dress. Meanwhile, Kunglers released a necklace in a coffee color and of course, coffee and tobacco are the peanut butter and jelly of louche lotus-eaters. And then, if that were not enough, PXL Creations released a Jazz quartet of skins for Rhapsody. All events have no causal bearing on each other, but they are uncannily in synchronicity.

The combination of pieces made me think of Ballaké, a classic of African Jazz by Bembeya Jazz National— after all, Jazz developed in America from African roots and American music traditions. Then it migrated back to Africa and found a new iteration. These pieces draw their inspirations from Indonesia and Africa but are modified and changed in translation just as the music was. I Suppose I Should Read the Instructions

So when Siddean Munro released the new Slink Physique mesh body, I rushed to message PXL Creation’s Hart Larsson to urge him to make appliers as soon as possible. Since he just released a new skin, I was hopeful. Sure enough, the new appliers have been released. Best of all, they will apply his skins to the body, hands and feet, so there’s no need for triple HUDDing to change skins.  I eagerly put them on and then pushed the buttons and

I sent an panicky IM to Hart – “It does’t work!” He said do this, do that, take off this, put on that and I think he was beginning to freak out, too, when all of a sudden I pressed the special breast customization buttons and there it was. I was doing it wrong! It worked perfectly from the beginning, but I was not pressing the right buttons. So, to make it work, press the silver buttons that select small or natural breasts and freckled small or natural breasts. That big circle in the center is just there to show you the skin tone.  So now you know!
