BYRNE is a new to me clothing line by ByrneDarkly Cazalet. Some of you may be familiar with her because of her involvement in Kamera Klub, the monthly photographic event that has produced events like the BOSCH IN HELL recreation of The Garden of Earthly Delights or from the Tart Gallery. She is an occasional denizen of The Velvet where I DJ, so when I saw the store name BYRNE and inspected to see who was the greater, I was pleased and kind of amazed she found time for even more creative endeavors. She does not have a huge selection of clothing yet, but I liked what I found. She likes colors and prints and is a bold designer. This is actually one of her more subdued prints. The dress is a lovely naturalistic pink and green that makes you think of a lovely young forest with a splash of roses on the front. When you purchase the dress you get four dresses – one with pink roses, one with green roses, both with regular and materials finishes. I wore the Materials version which reacts so beautifully to light.

The Market
My favorite farmer’s market in Portland is on the South Park Blocks. I love walking on the grass under the cool, shady trees. There’s something so much fresher and vibrant about that setting than the many other markets set up in concrete parking lots under the hot sun. There was one right next to my old apartment, less than a block away, and I still preferred the wonderful shady, tree-sheltered market downtown. Folks in Second Life® can put their markets anywhere they like, so I chose a grassy spot with trees.
My dress is from Bomshire – a new to me store. It is a dress with a simple black top and a vibrant print skirt. I simply love it.

Under Electric Candlelight
The new Lola dress from Baiastice for Collabor88 is every kind of summertime perfection with wonderful summer colors and prints, lovely design details that highlight the feminine shape and flatter every figure. I love the rich texture of the ribbon inset, collar and bow. Even better, with the fitted mesh, it fits perfectly.

My Schedule Was Full
I got dressed quickly this morning, with a list of errands and things I wanted to check out. I grabbed a new purse from The Annex (how cute is that?) and thought – I’ll quick post up those pics I shot days ago before our blog went down, and head out. All in all, ten minutes knocking out a blog post before hitting the road seemed like a great plan. After all, I want to go to a few events before RL Gidge has to hit the road.
That’s when it happened. My pictures, they weren’t in FLICKR. WHERE ARE MY PICTURES?
I walked around to my office and there they were, in my hard drive where I had left them. It seems I’d taken them but never cropped them. I also had done my great blogger mistake – I had changed my clothes and not saved any of my fashion details.
Did you hear that sound? That’s the sound of a blogger’s soul being wrenched apart by cruel fate. Continue reading
Join Hands For Nepal
Perhaps because Second Life® is very much an intentional community, a self-selected universe of seekers, its people seem to have internalized John Donne’s extraordinary claim “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main…” On April 25th, a bell tolled in Nepal. An earthquake and its aftershocks killed nearly 2000 people and fractured the infrastructure of the country. Because Second Life’s residents are “involved in mankind”, they responded quickly. Today a fundraiser opened to raise money to help feed the people of Nepal though the UN’s World Food Program. With another aftershock injuring over two thousand people just last night, the urgency of their need is compelling.
Join Hands, a new group formed to leverage the efforts of the SL community to respond to real world needs has organized the Fashion For Food (Join Hands for Nepal) event. There are many details about the event in Inara Pey’s great blog post complete with pictures from the event venue. With a bold and effective choice, the organizers chose to have the sim build reflect the damage of an earthquake and Inara Pey has several great picture of the venue.
Mami Jewell of Azul is one of those creators who often steps up to offer items to help. For Fashion for Food, she has released three different items. One is the short color block mini that is not in her usual formal style. I was happy to see it as it was perfect for DJ’ing last night. The black and teal combination and simple geometry inspired me to wear the lovely white, mint and yellow geometric nail polish from Nylon Outfitters for this month’s Collabor88 – and that led me to run with yellow for my accessories including these great shoes I got at the 21 Shoe event. I suppose it is cruel to show them since they were available for one day only – on the 21st. But I hope that inspires you to mark that date and remind yourself to check out the event. Participating stores offer two-for-one shoe exclusives for that day, but they are not available after the event.
Some big yellow earrings from Glam Affair and a lovely hair style from Exile help complete my outfit. This lovely skin from Glam Affair for Collabor88.
The World Food Program has three main goals under its Nepal earthquake response:
deliver food to survivors and those who need it most,
provide emergency operation assistance on a massive scale, and
help the humanitarian aid community with relief hub services.
Not everyone wants to contribute through events and would rather give their support directly in their first life. You can donate directly to the World Food Program Nepal relief here.

Luxuriating
I fell in love with the {anc} broken chair at Collabor88. In particular, I thought the animations and poses were extraordinarily well done. I took a lot of pictures of the poses and will post smaller pictures of them. I added some lovely lacey lingerie from Luxuria. I love how the lace is an abstract representation of roses. Luxuria’s lingerie comes with all the layers for clothing as well as appliers for Slink and Maitreya. This picture also shows off the lovely necklace from LaGyo.
The lighting is not photoshopped. I used the Dark Ambient windlight setting that comes with the standard Firestorm collection. The lighting comes from the Pilot candles and the half-deer curtains. I also used one self-made projector prim.

Waiting…anticipating
I am uncommonly good at waiting. I do not know why; I do not have any particular fondness for delayed gratification. I would just as soon never have to wait at all. Nonetheless, I have so many ways to make the time pass that waiting does not bother me. I usually bring a book to read everywhere I go in case there are unanticipated delays. Sometimes there are delays long enough that I finish the book, but I still have distractions. I watch people going by and compose descriptions of them. I try to note all the details, the type of clothing, the fabrics and patters, the hair, makeup and accessories. You should try it sometime. It is an entertaining way to people watch. Sometimes, I get caught out staring, so I simply smile and say something like “I was admiring your scarf, is it silk?”
There are some fashion events coming soon and I have been waiting and waiting and waiting. One, Collabor88, opens in an hour. The other, Penumbra’s Spring/Summer Fashion Week opens on May 16th. While waiting for Collabor88 to open, I am taking a bath, listening to Art Pepper playing saxophone and hoping my candles do not set my curtains alight.
One of the highlights at Collabor88 already is this broken chair in the foreground. It is from {and} that contains several poses and animations. The quality of the animations and poses is amazing and you will see that in another post that I already shot but have not uploaded to Flickr yet. I figured I better wear some clothes when I am posing in the chair.

The Hydrangea God Surveys His Minions
From the bottom of the garden, enthroned in his earthenware pot,
the hydrangea god surveys his minions— Rosanna Warren (listen here)
Who does not love hydrangeas? They blossom with such abundance and generosity, their palette of colors at once delicate and wild. Oregon is awash in hydrangeas and their leaves are budding now. I thought I had seen every color of hydrangea until I saw this gown from Gizza with the black umbels of hydrangea. Now I know all about adding or subtracting aluminum phosphate to make soil more or less acidic or alkali to change hydrangea color, but how did they get black. I turned to Professor Google and learned they simply paint the umbels. However, the effort pays off with a gorgeous drape of hydrangeas for the neck and headpiece that accompany this gorgeous gown.
Serendipity shows her face again. These bracers from MiaMai for We <3 Role Play were in the same grouping of notices waiting for me when I logged in. They were sent with a few hours of each other. Now some might thing they are rough-hewn in contrast to the delicacy of the dress, but contrasts between hard and soft can be exciting and the silver petals on the braces are reminiscent of the hydrangea petals.
Taxi!
I stopped by XIN, a sim I found in the Destination Guide. It’s a seedy urban sim, just what I was looking for to complement the punk out fit from Emery for Collabor88. The outfit features a sleeveless tank dress and a jean jacket with knit sleeves.
Am I Boring You?
The new body suit from Luxuria is too sexy to show before the cut.
