Winter White

Dec02_004

I love the fun, modern styling of this winter coat from Baiastice. It’s deceptively simple, but the details are telling from the slightly dropped hem in the back, the pocket inset and the fabulous box pleat in the back.  It comes in several colors, but this winter white is the one that won my heart.  Continue reading

Thankfulness

nov28_006

There are some great pieces that can be mixed and matched at Collabor88. The top from Aux works brilliantly with the pants from Baiastice for example. I just had to wear one size smaller pant to make sure there were no stray spots bumping through in the back.

Despite the false mythology of our first Thanksgiving and the martial origins of the official Thanksgiving holiday, Thanksgiving remains one of my favorite holidays. I acknowledge that sordid history, but I love that we have a holiday that is not about anything more than gathering with friends and family to focus with gratitude on the richness and plenitude of our lives. It’s unfortunate that it’s been invade by retail commercialism and ever-more-desperate consumerism, but that is on us. We allow it. And we can bring the holiday back to food, family and thankfulness if we care enough.

I am thankful for many things in my life, but for this post, I want to focus on those things that make me thankful in my Second Life®. First and foremost, I am thankful that Second Life exists and for its culture of creativity, liberality and freedom that allows people to express themselves as they wish to – as people, birds, horses, monsters, cats, dragons and even oscillating balls of light. I am thankful that Linden Lab and Philip Rosedale had that brilliant insight that the users could be allowed to make the world and it could be interesting. I am thankful that LL keeps advancing adding new ways to make our world more beautiful, from Windlight to mesh to materials to whatever comes next, our world evolves and because more beautiful all the time.

Finlandia

I was reminded today why I love to add different kinds of SL photographers to my FLICKR contacts when I saw this amazing sim and couldn’t resist heading over to get some pictures.

Called Finlandia, the Northern Lights play with your senses and you don’t know where to look there is so much gorgeous scenery all around you. Continue reading

Busy Pixel Life

I had a busy morning and afternoon, but nothing some fuel couldn’t help me power through. I had to pay the rent and then run off to do some shopping. Pixel Food should just magically appear don’t you think?

Luckily I know a great meat market.

I picked up new heels from LaRoo at Shoetopia and they’re adorable. They’ve got an easy skin matching system, puts me in mine of how GOS does it with a database. The match for me was fast and easy.  The shoes were comfortable and cute for my daily shopping trip and perfect for entertaining. They dress up or down perfectly with their Mary Jane inspired styling. Continue reading

What Does the Sweater Say?

My latest trip to FaMESHed (Ok I quit calling it Fame Shed except in my mind) was quickly turned into one of whimsy when I ran into this sweater from Mutresse. I bought it thinking I was getting one color, and that it displayed the graphic above. Seriously, it makes me lawl.

What I didn’t realize was that it came with a texture change huge, loads of colors AND little sayings. None as satirical and witty as THIS ONE imho but, that’s just me.

Of course the back says RINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING. Obviously. Continue reading

Spotify Me!

1111_004

For DJ’ing last night, i wore this casual sweater from The Secret Store with some pants from Baiastice.

Sasy Scarborough suggested some time ago that I share my DJ playlists on Spotify so folks can listen even if they can’t come to my set. I set up an account and hope you will follow me. I shared a playlist with Gidge and she confessed that Spotify was too complicated, so I thought I would do a Spotify tutorial.

Falling Into Suits

I wasn’t ready for fall weather and heavy clothes until I returned from a trip to frost warnings. BRING ON THE SUITS.

Baiastice has released a gorgeous new set of separates that magically work together as a suit. She’s taken care that layering is a snap with her alphas and the cut of the garments. Which is a nice change. Continue reading

Patience Is Underrated

oct20_002

Everybody knows the old saying “Patience is a virtue.” But how many have internalized it? How many people actually practice patience? This thought comes to mind frequently in Second Life®. I suppose it’s because we get seven days in a 24-hour period, so we expect everything to be seven times faster. Impatience is a systemic problem and it does not serve people well. Being a fashion blogger, of course I see most impatience in that world – with creators and with bloggers.

As a blogger, I cringe with embarrassment when a new blogger after putting up her masthead and clever name and writing an introductory post sends mass notecards to designers asking for review copies. At that moment they have an audience of one – and that one does not want to buy anything, does she? I blogged for six months before I got my first review copy and that was unsolicited. I did not feel I could ask for review copies until I had my blog on a couple feeds and knew it had good exposure to make it worth their while. I set a goal of 300 unique visits per day before I would approach anyone for review copies. That took seven months of patience, but it was worth it. When I asked a designer if I could blog something, that designer would know that I was dependable because I had proven it with time and patience. I would recommend bloggers put a minimum of three months into blogging with regular blog posts before even thinking of approaching a designer.

Cozy Chic

oct15_005

Warmth, comfort and coziness can be chic. In fact, the can be non plus ultra chic. Exhibit Number One, the Marigold coat from SLink. A camel hair coat with a shearling collar can easily be shapeless, but this coat has the requisite bulk for warmth while retaining a figure-hugging tailoring that flatters. The belt detail is gorgeous and gives the coat a feminine touch as do the slightly belled sleeves. I am wearing this with a great tweed pencil skirt from Baiastice as vibrant and lovely a maple leaves on a sunny autumn day.

oct15_007

I always recommend the multipak option with SLink products because they are not just fat packs. Rather than buying eight coats, you get a color-change hud that lets you mix and match the combinations of colors. For example, this shearling color could have been dyed all sorts of different colors. I went for the natural look, but it could have been blue. The belt could have been blue, too. Or the buttons. Or they could have been cranberry or one of the many color choices offered. This kind of multi-pak is so much more than just a fat pack.
