I am the youngest of six children. My five older siblings were all married by the time I turned four, so they basically doted on me like a pet or just one more child to play with their kids. They sometimes squabbled over me, all of them wanting me to come spend the weekend with them. I was pretty happy to go with any of them, but my oldest brother doted on me the most. I think it was because he saved me from drowning when I was three. My sister had brought me with her to the lake but was not paying attention when I got hung up in the weeds and slipped under water. Luckily my brother was there and noticed I was missing, ran in and found me unconscious, but obviously still alive. I do not remember any of this, but the story has been told to me over and over, though never by my brother. He was never one to boast. Instead, he took me swimming the next day and again and again until I grew up so at ease in the water that I would think nothing of running out the front door and swimming across the lake for a snack. March AVENUE Issue
The newest issue of AVENUE is up and has lots of styling articles featuring fabulous brights for spring. I wanted to point you toward the two articles I wrote. One is a profile of the store La Penderie de Nicole and its designer, Marcopol Oh. The second focuses on the architecture of Charlotte Bartlett and her home and furniture store, Scarlet Creative.
Gidge’s Fast Five: Saint Patrick’s Day Edition
The most important thing I can say to you right now is this. I’m Irish Protestant.
Now, moving on.
There were five posts that I saw earlier, meant to blog, forgot because life is busy and then liked them enough to pour a glass of wine and log in to share them!
1. Antlers for Everyone Everyone seems to be wearing antlers lately and it’s not Christmas. Sam Laszlo has found the best way yet to blog some antlers and keep it fresh. Well done. Continue reading
Skin Fair: Ugly Duck Olive skin and Calf shape
It’s that time of the year where your fashion feed fills with porn — no wait, those are just all us fashion bloggers reviewing our loot from the Skin Fair! That’s right, in order to better show you what the skin looks like, we’re compelled to post all nekky and in sexy lingerie and stuff. (I secretly suspect we’re all just exhibitionists.)
I’m not even me in this photo. I’m wearing a gorgeous skinny-model-esque shape by Ugly Duck (called the Calf shape, Fade Lei’s professed favorite), and the new Ugly Duck Olive skin too. I’m kind of addicted to both. (By the way, I threatened to blog her shapes in demo form, because they look so cute and gollumy with the enormous hands and feet.) Go check it out at the Skin Fair!
Sitting next to me is a new mesh plushie from ~Silentsparrow~, keeping me company while my partner is busting her ass all day making mesh corsets and necklaces and stuff.
Shape: Ugly Duck Calf
Skin: Ugly Duck Olive (makeup/dark)
Hair: Lamb Black Magic in my little pony
Birdie: ~silentsparrow~ Chymri Mesh Plush Bird
Lingerie: Luxuria Caer lingerie set, vintage
The Fashionista Achievement Awards Continue: Mating Habits
Pair-bonding is a normal social behavior, but in a virtual community there are some norms and conventions that work a bit differently than in a normal, sane community. Tonight, I bring you the achievement awards for that those moments outside the norm. Continue reading
When Shopping Is Your Profession
With so many things going on this weekend, I decided I wanted mellow shopping day without too many crowds or lag to disrupt my experience. But first, I had to get a touch up at the aesthetician to make sure I was cute in case I ran into any of the fashion mafia.
I got my roots touched up and decided it might be fun to go check out the Boutique event, especially since I like the idea of a Boutique with cute things you can’t resist. Continue reading
Cajsa Fast Five: March 16
I hope some of you can drop by Fashion For Life this afternoon. I will be DJ’ing from 3 to 4 and have pulled together a fashion-centric set. Meanwhile, there’s great stuff on the blogs.
- Clover: Grazia Horwitz shot a striking headshot that you really have to see. She always does an excellent job, but this one is breathtaking.
- I’ve Been Walking… : Belen Ackland has stunning fashion photos that work so well in the setting, they could easily grace a fashion magazine.
- Transformed: Xeriko Melnick takes the treehouse from Trompe L’oeil’s that’s one of the hot items at Collabor88 and transforms it into a beach house. Who knew?
- Wiskee’s Journal: Citta Wiskee’s tumblr is worth visiting for a long time and often.
- Tameless: A dream kawaii post from Manolya Preis. Most items are from the Pink Fusion Hunt. And seriously, the most detailed credits ever.
Days of Wine and Roses
I know all of you have seen this top many times over. When it came out, it was so new and distinctive that fashionistas rushed to buy it, including this one. It was blogged over and over again. That happens when items are exciting and fresh. The thing is, though, that this top has qualities that make it good investment dressing, too. It’s something to hang onto for the long haul, to be pulled out next year and the year after that because it is not only well-made, but it is made to play well with others. The relatively short waist keeps it from conflicting with skirts and pants. The lack of a collar lets it fit with lots of jewelry and even several jackets. It’s a keeper.
Today I paired it with this fabulous new pencil skirt from Baiastice. I love that she put in this soft version of a kick pleat in the back, adding an extra bit of stretch when you walk so the fabric does not get so streched. This skirt was released in five solids, six bi-colors and six leathers.

English Muffins
One Bad Pixel released a new mini-collection with a lot of wardrobe basics and this fabulous slip dress. I love dresses like these, light-weight with body-skimming fabrics that float gently, falling on your curves lightly and moving with your body. The large floral print is lush and the colors are so tempting and delicious. Of course, with the mesh made by SLink’s Siddean Munro and the textures created by Adam n Eve’s Sachi Vixen, they are bound to be well made, beautifully fitted and textured. Continue reading
