It’s Never Just Hair

jul28_006

Today is the last day of Hair Fair, so that means it is Bandana Day. Today we take off our hair and wear a bandana in solidarity with all those who have lost their hair in their struggles to live with illness whether from cancer or alopecia or whatever. Hair Fair exists to provide hair for young people who have lost theirs and the proceeds go to Wigs For Kids. Think about how stressful it is to go out on a bad hair day, now how many more times more difficult would it be with no hair? Supporting Wigs for Kids will help them put an end to bad/no hair days.

The floral bandana from Lelutka sent me on a mission to mix florals, but in such a way that they worked together. The dress from Decoy for Collabor88 has such a soft tone on tone pattern that is almost seems like a solid in contrast to the bold scarf.

Determination is beautiful

Hair Fair 2013

My NHL (Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) was diagnosed on October 13, 2011. It’s not a date that anyone easily forgets. I treated it with a month of intensive Rituximab chemotherapy, and it went away for a while. Then it returned (I found out in October 2012), and I realized that once you have cancer, you have to face the fact that it’s with you, in one way or another, for a long time.

It’s a sticky business. I go in for maintenance chemotherapy every two months now, more Rituximab. I have the luck of the easiest and gentlest of chemotherapy medications. In fact, before making this post, I pondered to myself that I feel like a total poseur wearing a bandana: I never lost my hair.

Still, sitting in the chemotherapy room every other month (my fourteenth treatment is coming up next month), I meet the humans who wear the bandanas, and the ones who don’t bother, and allow their bald heads to show as a sign of their constant battle within.

I have so much respect for the people whose chemotherapy medicines enter their bodies through a port instead of an IV, for people who kill every single dividing cell in their bodies day after day, month after month, until their lives are lived through pure determination.

For their bravery and endurance, and for the stories I hear when I sit by their side in my own chemotherapy chair, I wear this bandana today.

(Many thanks to Sasy Scarborough for helping me purchase the bandana, my poor old laptop was not up for Hair Fair, and I could not pry my husband off SkyRim to use his PC!)

BANDANA DAY 2013 !!! Drop The Hair To Show You Care!

There were so many beautiful bandanas this year that I struggled only buying four. I kept thinking, four is plenty. You don’t NEED more than four. But, they are so pretty, I rather love them this year. I might have more than four. Continue reading

So Love Donna Flora is now open. Frankly there is so many wonderful things I am overwhelmed trying do decide what to buy myself. This dress from Ghee for Love Donna Flora was an easy choice for me, though, being my favorite color. Also, Ghee is a new-to-me store and that is always fun. The dress is alive, can you see the sparkles?

I Traveled To Tokyo With Flowers In My Hair

I wanted to go shopping somewhere new, so I put in SHOPPING MALL into SEARCH.

After wading through a bunch of places that had keywords shopping, shopping mall, big shopping mall, best shopping mall, shopping mall of the shopping, etc etc etc I found someplace that looked interested, said it was anime themed and I didn’t have anything better to do so I popped over. I am Giulia

Hello folks, i hope you still remember me and i hope you are doing good 🙂
Yeah, i have lots of things going on in my life right now, i hope i will be able to blog again as soon as possible.

Today i’m here for Squinternet, i was supposed to post before, but i really couldn’t. I hope she will read this, i’ll post it on my own blog too.

So, i would like to say a few things about her.

Last year, thanks to Cajsa’s Donna Flora A to Z Project i had the chance to know Squinternet Larnia. I knew her brand, her fabulous creations, of course, but i never talked to her before. After my post Giulia (yes, it’s her name) contacted me and we had a long talk, followed by others and i finally understood why people loved her so much not only as creator, but, most of all, as woman, as person.

Donna Flora I

Giulia told me her story, we talked about life, cancer, treatments, about fighting for life, about feelings, about friends, about love, we talked about many things. We never met before and we were talking like two old friends, it was simply amazing. Maybe speaking our own language (we’re both Italians) helped alot, you know it’s so much easier to say things when you speak your language 😛  She put one million smiles on my face and she left me speechless: someone in her conditions, in her situation would easily give up. She had the strength, the will and the hope not to give up. She loved life. Giulia loves life and she makes people love life.

Donna Flora III

Second Life is a fantastic virtual world made of real people: feelings and emotions are even more amplified here. So i know, Giulia, that you are reading this. Hey, sweet flower, look, you are so much loved and that’s wonderful, see what you’ve done! Don’t give up, you’re not allowed to!

I am with you, we are with you. My heart beats with yours.

I am Giulia, we are Giulia.

Bandana Day Is Tomorrow!! Do You Have Your Bandana???

TOMORROW is Bandana day and that’s the day we take off our many wigs and wear only bandanas, in support and solidarity to those who do not have any due to disease or treatment of disease.

Many of us made bandanas and donated them, and you still have time to run over and grab one or two or three and get creative.

I hope to see NO hair on Iheartsl tomorrow! So spread the word!

And your little ducks too

Calas Galadhon (1)

I admit to you all that for years and years in Second Life, I was a blogger shut-in. Instead of exploring and hanging out and poking around this virtual world, I basically looked at stuff other people made, put it on, and then took photos of it. On the plus side I went from being completely sh*t at photography to developing kind of an eye for it, sometimes. It definitely feels rewarding, for example, to look back at how horrible my early flickr photos were! On the minus side, I’m only beginning to appreciate the variety and width of Second Life now… And ah, how sad, sometimes I stumble upon places scant weeks before they downsize and close.

People who aren’t such shut-ins as myself must know already that the beautiful Calas Galadhon parks (named after the elanor and nimphredil-covered hill beloved by the lady of Lorien) are going to close for a while in August. The parks will return, but different. Fewer sims, and some possibly members only. Please read more about it all here!

I’m glad I’m getting to see it all while I can. The sims are sprawling and whimsical in a truly natural way, and I enjoyed taking a dip in the duck-laden swamps. (If you can find the duck in my locks, below, you win a small internet. 😀 )

If I Were Going To Role Play Who Should I Be?

Roleplay, cosplay and well made fashion had a three way and there was a baby. FATEplay was born to bring amazing fashion to a part of the grid less traveled by some of us. It does give one pause, what might we do there, given the amazing offering at FATEplay?

My first thought was I could be a Desdemona seeking my handkerchief? But she ended so poorly, so maybe not. Continue reading
