Moving the Velvet

jul18_005

One of Second Life’s oldest indie music clubs, The Velvet, moved this week and there’s a huge party this weekend to celebrate and raise funds to pay for that transition and keep the club going. There will be music from 9 AM to 11 PM Saturday and Sunday and all the tips will go to the club. The Velvet has been playing great indie music for over five years and hope to keep going strong under the ownership of Maht Wuyts who has managed the club for the last year. The new location is here. I will be DJ’ing early Sunday morning – at 9 a.m. – a strange hour, I know, but then I DJ’ed at 6 AM for SL9B, so this is certainly better timing than that. If you can’t make my set, I hope you can make another – the music at The Velvet is always a great mix so you are sure to enjoy it.

There will always be Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm

jul06_002

I swear there is a reason this blog title makes sense. You see, I am featuring a few items from faMESHed (pronounced fa-MESHED) which my mind always reads as Fame Shed. Personally, I think the organizers should just go with it and put a few hay bales out and maybe a cow. A nice chich cow, like a Guernsey or a Jersey. One of those cows with eyeliner and long lashes. Because one thing you will find at faMESHed is chic.

Still my mind hops from faMESHed to Fame Shed to Shed to Cold Comfort Farm and well, if you saw it, you know where my mind went next…

frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

DSCN4947

Oscar and “his” computer

“frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” is what my cat had to say this morning. He also said “ghew” and tried to order something on Itunes. Thankfully, when I came back to my chair, the message said they were unable to complete his request. I turned off one-click ordering at Amazon a few months ago after having to cancel The Barbados Travel Pack. Of course, when I try to blog, he’s all over the place. Butting his head against my forehead, climbing up on my shoulder and walking all over the place. If you knew how any times I deleted long interjections in my blog posts! But of course, I wouldn’t have him any other way. He’s a loving, curious and demanding cat who provides so much entertainment and affection. Don’t fret about his eye, he’s still a little OCD from spending 8 months in the animal shelter before I adopted him. It’s been a year and it’s so much better, but not completely gone. The black SoftPaws on his claws prevents him from scratching himself too much.

Even with all his help, I hope to introduce you to this lovely day dress from Bilo. It’s a rather conservative (for Second Life) dress, but RL or SL, this is the perfect dress to beat the heat – fabric that breathes and loosely fitted. It’s bright summer colors just add some energy to the look. You can find this dress in this gorgeous blue and several other colors at faMESHed.

Returning

July01_001

One of my favorite SL sim builders is Marcus Inkpen whose amazing Utopia 4 build remains a standout for me – though it’s long gone. He’s also the genius behind the stunning Looking Glass sim.

July01_002

I was thrilled to learn that he has a new sim installation called The Returning. This is one on of the Linden Endowment for the Arts sims. Prepare to be amazed as you look at the pictures from the Flickr group for the sim. I must thank Ryker Beck for sharing a picture of the sim on her plurk – or I might not have known about it.

Sun in the Fun

Wedding Finery

These sunny shorts from ColdLogic will be bringing the sun to the fun this weekend. I love their crisp styling and ice cream colors and the beautiful narrow belt that comes attached to them. Whether you wear the pink, blue, melon or this sunshine fresh yellow, you will be looking sharp and ready for fun in the sun – even if you’re painting the garden shed.

Bunga Mawar

Pink Flamingo

The Luka dress from LeeZu is all about the fabric with its beautiful design and the form, with its exaggerated sleeves.

It’s funny how the mind works, I was looking at the fabulous new mesh dress from LeeZu and its extra-long sleeves. They reminded me of three former housemates of mine from Malaysia. They were Muslim women who usually wore Western dress but with longer skirts and a hijab that covered their bodice and sleeves to right about the length of these sleeves. They were already in my mind when I saw the back of the dress and all of a sudden out of my memory bank popped the Malay expression for rose, bunga mawar. I never actually learned Malay while living with them, but absorbed enough that I could contribute to a Malay conversation in English. I thought I had forgotten everything until I saw this dress.

Pink Flamingo

A bunga mawar by any other name would smell as sweet.
