Let’s Talk Simple

A nice job texturing a simple dress can be as much of a skill as anything. This little halter dress from Ducknipple makes me think it’d be cute at a more elegant pool party as well – with your swimming suit underneath.

It’s perfect for the cocktail hour of said party. It makes me feel summery and ready to be rid of all my baggage of the winter season.  I am also wearing some kicky new pumps for SLINK feet that are from LWarwick. They’re nicely made and great slip ons for casual or more dressy occasions too. Continue reading

And If Your Close Your Eyes

I am adding this dress from Baiastice to my folder of staple foods when it comes to classic dresses. I’ve worn it twice now and that’s a definite endorsement.  It’s classic lines paired with casual comfort is perfect whether you’re feeling cocktail fancy or just comfy casual.

Today I’m somewhere in between. Continue reading

Fashion and Furnishings

This gorgeous new Belted Dress from Gizza demonstrates how much textures affect clothing. Giz Seom made this with a casual, everyday argyle as well as this glamorous club-hopping snakeskin. The argyle has a turtleneck collar as well while the snakeskin has a jeweled necklace that I decided not to wear – going for something simpler. You can see the options from the vendor picture below.

Meanwhile, The Arcade has inspired me to have a vacation home in the mountains. The lodge from Scarlet Creative is a snug, small little cabin which is what you want. You don’t want such a big vacation home that you spend all your vacation cleaning. I have been decorating it with lots of items from The Arcade, including the wonderful ISPACHI wood carvings. There were some excellent electric signs from Seven Emporium and you can assume what you will about the one I chose.

The Arcade Sent Me On Vacation

Well I got a new little dog. I might be into collecting little dogs now. With the Arcade feeding my cute things addiction this weekend it’s hard to say WHERE the madness will stop. But I’ve set up a little campsite with my new Tres Blah trailer and outdoor goodies, and the doggie and me are on vacay! Continue reading

The Arcade Is Coming in T Minus SOOON

Vespertine is releasing some gacha pieces for the book lover who really adores the look of books throughout their dwelling. They’re amazing pieces to create little vignettes for a blog, or just to enhance the narrative of your own Second Life.

Tres Blah has an assortment out, some adorable spring themed items for your home, I’ve got a few goodies and I confess I’m going to have more if I have my way.

I admit I love little personality pieces to spice up the look of my home. I’m a sucker for silhouettes.

And if those goodies weren’t fun enough, I’m also off for a weekend of relaxing at the beach in my new Tres Blah camper and some other items from their spring collection for THE ARCADE.

The Arcade opens at 12:01 AM SLT on 3/1/2014 and these are just a few of the NOT to be missed pieces of awesome this round.

Get on your marks.

Get set….

The Light

The MiaMai Bridal Collection is out and inspiring me to try out Quicktime’s new built in screen capture film-making. Monica Outlander of MiaMai has found inspiration in the new materials option and her inspiration and craft are really shown to great effect in this gown where the shine and shimmer of materials add luster and glimmer and subtle shading. It’s a gorgeous gown that inspired me to run over to Memento Mori to shoot some pictures that might capture some of the magic in her gown. The song is Sara Bareilles’ The Light because light is so much a part of the experience of wearing this dress – and of Memeto Mori.

Soufflés and Table Lamps

0217_002

Sometimes I am curious how designers choose the names of their outfits. A lot of designers give their dresses names of women and I sometimes wonder why a blue shirt dress is a Helen instead of say, an Eleanor. What makes a Lisa or a Maria dress? I am always happy, then, when I see a dress and the genesis of the name is clear. For example, this dress from Snowpaws for The Style Icon is called Soufflé and it’s obvious the puffs of fabric that rise up around the waist are the inspiration, though I doubt this skirt will fall if you slam the oven door.

My Calendar is Changing

0218_002

I stopped off at the memorial garden for Squint the other day. I have been thinking about Squint (Squinternet Larnia of Donna Flora) a lot lately. I agreed to organize Fashion For Life, the fashion fundraising event for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. I am sure I was asked because of my role organizing Love Donna Flora on her behalf last year. Like most of us, cancer has impinged on my life in many ways and continues to do so.

Right now, my niece is struggling with a particularly virulent form of cancer that has her driving 340 miles to the Mayo Clinic several times a month. A friend and former colleague is flying from Portland to Philadelphia for an experimental cancer vaccine treatment. Who knew cancer came with frequent flyer miles? Another friend’s father just learned Monday that his prostate cancer has not responded as they has hoped and he must try another treatment regimen. Last month yet another cousin died of cancer and I won’t even begin to count the losses in my extended family. My cousins number in the hundreds – so yeah, I don’t even want to start counting.

I do not know how senior citizens do it. I am far away from that demographic and already my calendar is changing from one that was almost nothing but birthdays and wedding anniversaries to an ever-growing collection of anniversaries of loss. And too many of those losses are due to cancer.

Fashion For Life Registration is Open

That is just one of the many reasons why I support Fashion For Life and through it, the American Cancer Society whose programs not only research better treatments, but advocate for prevention, early detection, provide support to people living with cancer all while focusing on the long term goal of ending this global scourge that takes over 8 million people a year. Whether as a designer or a shopper, you can make a difference. Please go to the Fashion For Life web site and mark your calendars for June 7th – 20th.

A Day In My Second Life

It always starts the same way, that infernal RL Gidge logs me in, and rouses me from my slumber and lazy girl ways.  Luckily, she appreciates my desire and need for a hot, caffeinated beverage before even thinking about getting my pixel life going. Continue reading
