I wanted to be sure to choose the perfect lingerie for this new sheer tunic Zaara released at Collabor88. I had this great set from Luxuria for Fifty Linden Friday. It’s still available, just not 50 lindens. I love the colors and thought it a perfect set for my new tunic. It applies to both Maitreya and Slink bodies, so it’s very flexible.

Black Bantam, a new to me label, released this lovely Autumn Dreams Balloon Chair, a fantasy piece that I took for a ride on the Linden Ocean.  Stacey Oller is the designer for Black Bantam and may be more familiar to folks under her fashion label Pink Acid. The chair contains several poses and animations for men and women (and kids) and comes in blue as well.

The Scents of Autumn

bags full of leaves are light as balloonsFirst things first, Strawberry Singh wrote an important post about an ongoing fraud happening in SL right now. You should read it to best protect your own account. Of course, a good rule of thumb is not to execute or agree to anything from objects given to you by strangers. While it’s not true that you can never cheat an honest person, it is true that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

So autumn is here. Here in Oregon, it’s raining, bringing sweet relief from the heat and let us hope, from the fires that are destroying so much habitat in the Pacific Northwest and California. Here in SL, though, there are no fires and the rain is holding off for another day. However, the state fairs are all over and all the 4Hers have their ribbons and are back in school. Fruits are being harvested and canneries are running around the clock. For me, though, lounging by the barn is a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. Schadenfreude’s black squirrel is much more industrious, picking up a small pumpkin to store away.

It’s Only Fashion: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest? Is there a story you can share that captures your Second Life experience?

Leyla Flux: Actually, I don’t think I ever did something really crazy in SL. I came here in 2009 for the premiere of my Machinima movie “Saving Grace” at the Machiniplex theatre, which was run by Sol Bartz, better known as Phil Overman Rice in the machinima world. My film was not a Second Life movie but made using the program Moviestorm and footage taken in the game X³ Terran Conflict, and I was asked to do an interview with Overman and the interested viewers at the venue. That was in February 2009. So I stood in front of the audience, knowing next to nothing about SL, in my noobie avatar. It was fun, and frightening at the same time!

Later that year, my film was shown at the Machinima Expo, by then I was already infected with the SL bug and looked much more stylish than in February. If you’re interested, you can watch “Saving Grace” on Vimeo, I’m still very proud of it and sometimes sad about moving away from making machinima, but it just happened. And yes, that time might have been the craziest I had in SL!

IOF: What drew you to designing hair? When did you start? What are some of the changes that were most significant for you?

LF: Once I found my feet in SL (with the help of Riott Viking and Lainy Voom, both machinimators and creators), I knew I wanted to make things. I started out with system layer clothes, built prim houses. Riott (she did skins) and I had a shop together, and it was going nicely. Then mesh came, everything changed, and I realised that if I wanted to create still, I needed to learn mesh. I admit I was pretty daunted by the idea (I never learned making my own sculpties), so Riott and I decided to give up our store. For a time, my blog was my only creative outlet, then I started to itch for doing something creative again and learned making poses, and finally dabbled in blender. I did tons of Youtube tutorials (thank you, Youtube!) and as I’ve always loved hair, I pretty soon was sure that I wanted to make hair. Cyclic Gearz helped me a lot – if you need blender lessons, she’s great! And around April 2014, I released my first hair.

IOF: How did you choose your store name? Does it have a special meaning for you?

LF: I’ve always loved the word “Kokolores”. To me, it’s nonsense in a positve sense, fun, light, entertaining, creative, colourful.

IOF: What is the most challenging part of being a creator in Second Life? What is most rewarding?

LF: I strive to get better with everything I do, and I’m a perfectionist. Sometimes the real challenge is to let something go! And a big challenge also is that you’re not only a creator, but your own marketing force, too. So much depends on how you market your stuff. A picture can make or break an item. Packaging, making colour huds, doing marketplace all takes up so much time, time I’d rather spend making more hair!

Gone Fishing

Those Fisherman Pants from Zaara at The Arcade make me very happy. I have several pair, snatching them up for the gacha machine filled with party delights from Goa.

I love how the Pixicat vest from Collabor88 this month goes so well with it that I had to try out a few variations.

Oh Good Morning Girls

Good Morning girls. I’ve decided not to do Monday today after all. There’s too much shopping to do, my house is a wreck with clothes strewn everywhere and honestly, I should organize my make up I think. Instead I’ve made blender drinks and hit the ocean.  I cannot possibly be expected to adult today. It’s out of the question.

I bought a new rafts for chilling in the water from What Next (new to me) and that’s my plan for today.

I love blue drinks, did you know that? I’m OBSESSED with them. I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to blue drinks. You can go see it if you look me up, I’m Gidgery on Pinterest. But if you don’t that’s cool too. Again, today I’m getting baked in the sun and just waiting for the burn. I’ll take the burn. I welcome it. Continue reading

My Armour Is Glitter My Heart Still Waits

Penumbra fashion week continues and today I’m sharing a gorgeous slinky gown that is perfect.  I hadn’t done a proper fashion blogger standing around with random objects shoot for a while, so I felt like this was a good day for that. Continue reading

The Necessity of Bikinis In SL

I’ve probably bought more bikinis than anything else in SL and let’s face it, there’s a reason. Living an idyllic waterside life is something a lot of us don’t have, and even when we aren’t ocean front as I am at this time, we usually have a pool in SL or a friend does. Pool parties, beach parties and the like are a staple food of social time. Consequently the item I’ve most often rushed out to find a  “new” one of is a bikini.   Continue reading

In Living Color

150310_003

How many of us have predominantly black, grey, and white clothing? How many homes have all white walls and neutrals with a “pop” of accent color? We don’t have achromatopsia, so why do we live like we do? Why are neutrals considered more tasteful than active, vibrant colors?

Did you know that those classic white statues from ancient Rome and Greece were not originally white? They were painted and full of bright gaudy color. I wonder sometimes if the centuries of elevating their pristine monochromatic grandeur are why we are so shy with color in our lives today.

Pictures Only!

Dress (La Penderie de Nicole) Jewelry (Zaara) Nails (La Boheme) Hair (D!va @ Collabor88)

I keep hearing how people prefer blogs with pictures only, but I do not. I like to hear about problems, things that are cool, special or different about an outfit. However, I have a migraine and so you will have to satisfied with only the pictures.

Designer Download – Zaara Kohime

{Zaara} Chandni Lehenga

This week, It’s Only Fashion interviews Zaara Kohime who is well-loved in the Second Life® fashion world for her vibrant colors, beautifully detailed textures and her eclectic designs. Kohime creates Western and Indian fashions nd jewelry as well as housewares and furnishings that are irresistible to loves of design.

It’s Only Fashion: What was your first day in Second Life like? What made you stick it out through the learning curve?

Zaara Kohime: I guess it was pretty much like what most people go through, figuring out how it works. The most logical thing for me to do for search for ‘India’ in places to get to a place of familiarity. I ran into some very friendly people who helped ‘de-noob’ me. Those days camping was still a thing, I believe I got 10L$ for an hour, haha! What made me stick was the fact that because there is no goal to Second Life, so it becomes a process of discovery and eventually you find your reasons to be here.

IOF: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest?

ZK: To be honest, I am the sort of person who sticks around the skybox making stuff. I am very disciplined and devote most of my time towards creation when I am ingame. However when I do have some spare time I really enjoy torturing my best friend Strawberry Singh. I used to think up of a lot of morbid schemes to harass her, but recently lack of time prevents me from bothering her as much as I used to. I met my RL partner, Sawyer, in Second Life and flying out to meet him was possibly the most ballsey thing I have done that’s Second Life related.
