I Am Going to the Max

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable-JFK

“A proper community, we should remember also,
is a commonwealth: a place, a resource, an economy.
It answers the needs, practical as well as social and spiritual,
of its members — among them the need to need one another” — Wendell Berry

Rustica was one of the first furniture stores I ever visited in Second Life. My friend Maht Wuyts from The Velvet and I would go there at least a couple times a month. We had a photo studio and it was furnished with Rustica’s Couch of Many Colors and there was that sleek recliner that offered Grey Goose martinis. There was the sleeper sofa that opened up with a mouse click into a bed. Long billowy curtains that pooled on the floor. Man, we loved that place. It felt like a real shop, a bit over-crowded and messy. You know, like an old-fashioned place that is the opposite of a mall. Unlike many stores, when you visited Rustica, the owner might be sitting behind the counter and would even chat. So Max Graf has been an SL acquaintance and friend for ten years now. During all that time, he has been a friendly and generous member of Second Life’s community.

Sadly, he and his family have lost their home due to legal manipulations they may be able to overturn, but not in time to keep a roof over their heads. They risk homelessness without some help. Second Life is a proper community and proves it again and again, a place where people can admit to needing each other. Max asked people to shop at his store, but people, remembering all Max has done over the years to build SL community wanted to do more. That’s where Going to the Max came from, the knowledge that Second Life is a proper community.

Sometimes It’s Lonely

Sometimes I’m very solitary and that’s by choice. I guess I need more excitement in my SL but I love my quiet Saturday evenings at home, with nothing but me and my thoughts.

I can do whatever and no one cares, which is kind of a relief from the burdens of responsibility isn’t it. It’s kind of the best sort of relaxation. Continue reading

Great Minds Thinking Alike

All the candy corn that was ever made was made in 1911. Lewis BlackGidge is my favorite person in Second Life and among my favorites in my first life, too. So, it’s no surprise we sometimes think alike and dress alike. Our mutual love for this dress from Nylon Outfitters was unplanned, but you know, I thought about reshooting with a different color, but I changed my mind. I like the black one best, and really, it’s a case of great minds thinking alike. By the way, if you like this dress, get yourself over to Collabor88 now because it’s the last day.

All the candy corn that was ever made was made in 1911. Lewis BlackI don’t like candy corn, but these critters crack me up. One of my favorite items from The Arcade this month. It’s amazing how they with their simplistic form still manage to express emotions. There’s some popcorn for all the drama from Lost Junction and a fun plastic table and stools from PLAAKA – all at The Arcade.

The Arcade Closes at Midnight Friday

Life needs more beaches and bonfires.

Beaches and dragons, camping equipment and drive-ins, campers, canoes, and wedding dresses. All those things will remain in one room for just one more day….so if you have been waiting for traffic to slow down at The Arcade, you better hop to it.

Age of Swords @ The Arcade

Age of Swords I love it when different elements from The Arcade come together like the armor from Fedora and the dragon elements from C L A Vv at June’s Arcade which ends at Friday night. I actually loved the wings from the C L A Vv dragon, but ended up using these from Conflict Angel because I wanted animated wings for my video blog below . I reviewed the second book in an amazing fantasy series, Legends of the First Empire.

The Age of Myth

The Age of MythWhile I don’t role play it is fun to dress up. I had a good excuse because I wanted to review Age of Myth, this book I read that I really loved. There were some outfits at The Arcade that were perfect so the timing was perfect.

Age of Myth is a fantasy novel, the first of five in a new series by Michael J. Sullivan. I reviewed this book on my blog HERE.

Colors at The Arcade & Collabor88

“Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”

My mother was a believe in dressing to feel better. If you feel sick, wear a dress and fix your hair. If you feel blah, wear something bright. I had an annoying headache and felt so dreary yesterday, I knew I needed some brightness, so I put on the white-white-white high-waisted long-bottomed pants from Pixicats at Collabor88. I also added a top from HUCCI in lovely jewel tones and neutrals. Kandinsky once said, “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.” I don’t know if that is true, but I know it can give your mood a big pop.

I decided to introduce you to Toodles XXXIII. My brother has had a chihuahua for a pet for most of his adult life. Just one, always named Toodles. Toodles, ToodlesII, ToodlesIII. I am not sure what iteration of Toodles exists now, but I went for XXXIII to be sure I did not tread on any Toodles’ memory.

Fabsolutely Fun Fashion

"Every day we ignore how completely broken this world is and we tell ourselves it’s all going to be okay, you’re gonna be okay. But it’s not okay. And once you know that, there’s no going back."

Anemysk Kara just showed this blouse she is releasing at Vintage Fair and I just fell in love with its fabstract design. I love the combination of old-fashioned and hyper-modern. The front and the sleeves are so very traditional, then it’s cropped and has an open back. From front to back is a two hundred time travel jump and a brilliant play on form. It’s sold in three packs: plain (vibrant, saturated colors), patterns (prints and florals), and silk (pastels).

"Every day we ignore how completely broken this world is and we tell ourselves it’s all going to be okay, you’re gonna be okay. But it’s not okay. And once you know that, there’s no going back."

I combined it with a fun, cheeky belted skirt from Baiastice which you can find at Collabor88. Frankly, I was so indecisive, I could see the top with pencil skirts, cigarette pants, a mini-skirt, high-waisted bell bottoms, or just about anything. The slim silhouette of a pencil skirt of cigarette pant would be sophisticated, but I thought this cheeky option would be fabsolutely fashion fun.

"Every day we ignore how completely broken this world is and we tell ourselves it’s all going to be okay, you’re gonna be okay. But it’s not okay. And once you know that, there’s no going back."

I shot my pictures at One Tree Hill, a Linden Endowment of the Arts sim. It’s probably based on the show I have never watched, but I loved the nostalgia of the sim.

The Arcade brings sunshine and flowers

Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you.

I was looking for a quote for my pictures and came across “Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you.” It was attributed to Walt Whitman which struck me as bizarre. It does not sound the least bit like Whitman. Whitman wrote things like “Give me the splendid silent sun, with all his beams full-dazzling!” The internet is good for many things, but it’s been a disaster to those who want proper attribution for quotes. Thankfully there are those who are combatting error like The Quote Investigator.

The Arcade has arrived and with June comes sunshine and flowers, not just outdoors, but even on the wall.

Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you.

I shot these pictures in the small attic bedroom at the top of Scarlet Creative’s romantic Daisy Weathered House at The Arcade. With ivy and moss on the walls and roofs, delicate floral wallpaper and so many gables it would make Nathaniel Hawthorne jealous, this house is everything.

You Had Me At Gacha

Good morning girls. I’m slow moving, trying to get out of bed this morning, but when I’m surrounded by my pretty pink bed it’s difficult to get out and out and away like I should. I’m exhausted from the Arcade preview and excited at the same time. It’s a great round.  Continue reading
