The Truth About Mornings

I wasn’t sure how to start my day after I’d taken the time to get dressed and do my nails. I knew I wanted breakfast but couldn’t decide on what I was willing to bother making.  I’m lazy in both worlds and I’m afraid we both skip breakfast more than we should.

Pixel Gidge decided that cake is breakfast too. It also gives me a chance to show you her new dining room set. Ria Bazar released the Toronto dining set and it’s larger than my old set which, although I loved it, was what I wanted. My linden house seems to be proportioned for back when furniture WAS so much larger and I always feel like huge portions of it are empty. It was about 500 lindens for the whole set, table rug, cabinet, lamp etc – so a STEAL. Continue reading

Why Does the Caged Bird Sing?

Gogo pointed me to a store I hadn’t perused in the past and I discovered a little corner chocked full of what is fun about our Second Lives – Fantasy. Songbird has all sorts of quirky fantasy items from the macabre to the festive.

I do like fantasy and this shop has eyes, tattoo layers and all sorts of things for adding a tweak of the ethereal to your avatar if you’re feeling saucy. Continue reading

Labors of Love

jul15_002

The things we do for love…Take this lovely dress made by Monica Outlander of MiaMai. One of the frustrating elements of living with cancer for Squinternet is that she would still love to create, she still has ideas and her imagination is still dancing along the runway of glamour and whimsy. The pain, though, of sitting at the computer and working prevents her from realizing her ideas. Monica understood that frustration as only another artist can and offered herself as an amanuensis for Squinternet’s idea, collaborating with her in creating this first MiaMai for Donna Flora dress – a new release at the Donna Flora store.

Not Your Grandma’s Porcelain Doll

jul13_017

I love how the ultra modern shape of this jacket with its extreme shoulder and the bold, urban cut of the pants with  zippered legs are merged with the ultimate in delicacy and tradition, the ancient art of  blue and white porcelain. When a designer can take such dichotomous threads and weave them into a coherent design, that’s magic.

Let There Be Luz

jul13_003

I was searching on Marketplace, on the hunt for a jacket. I have no idea why this came up in my search, but I am happy it did. It’s a lovely skirt and tunic mesh dress (one piece) from LuzieFree Designs by Luzie Cheng. While she has obviously been around a long time, this was my first time seeing her work. As you can see, the looks is summer cool and casual, loose and with thin, light fabric. I love the design and the print side panel. Some of the details are just amazing.

My First Hair Fair Post of 2013

Jul11b_005

I slipped into this lovely ruffled dress from ISON, a simple summer dress enhanced by a loose ruffle down the front and short cap sleeves. It’s a lightweight silk perfect for hot summer days under the sun as in the undisclosed location I am visiting today. A belt adds definition, making this a sweet and sexy summer dress.

Think of a Title

I started this post this morning, but got distracted and decided to relax, read a book and cuddle with Oscar, my cat, instead. However, back to the blog! I love this dress from Milk Motion for Collabor88 July.  It made with sheer floral tulle over a silk sheath with a serrated hem and sleeves. I love the color-on-color subtlety. I chose this nude version which is even more subtle than the many other color options you can choose from at Collabor88.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Jul08_002

The Ayoun dress and clutch from Baiastice for the July round of Collabor88 is a delicately feminine little frock with a dropped blouson top and a gently gathered flounce skirt. With spaghetti straps and a deep cleavage, it bares a lot for the summer sun. It comes in ten solids and five prints. What is so exciting is that the five prints are all different, not just recolors. It seems the essence of summer. The lovely clutch purse has a subtle nod to summer with the fabric rose on the flap.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

My mother wanted to be an English teacher when she was growing up. Many of her older siblings went to college, but when she was still a child, my grandfather’s bank manager ran off with all the money in his bank. This was before FDIC, so people could have lost everything. Instead, my grandfather sold his mill, electric company, his farm and his house and made all the depositors whole even though he was not obligated to do so since it was a corporation. This left him impoverished and having to start over from scratch in his late sixties. He began again as a dairy farmer on contract to a local creamery, paying $1.00 per acre, but obligated to sell his produce only to that creamery for 30 years, a northern form of share-cropping.  This ended any chance my mom had of going to college.

I Hired a Personal Assistant Fairy

I decided that it was high time I too acknowledged how fancy and important I was by getting myself a personal assistant in SL. However, I didn’t want one I would pay a pittance and then would be responsible for answering customer NCs if they came in, and for reminding me to make items for events.

No, I wanted on that would be at my beck and call 24/7 and who would make things appear that I wanted, for no other reason than because I was dreaming of them in RL. I wanted someone with MAGIC.

So, I got myself a fairy. Continue reading

Several Shoots Later

I shot this outfit five times. Five different times. This is a grand departure from my old self, wherein I would say TO HELL WITH THIS OUTFIT and delete it all and you’d never see it.

I used to feel like, it just wasn’t meant to be, if the pics were all shite. But that’s more Presbyterian than I care to be, so I kept going back and back and back to the studio, or that studio, or this location, or at my house, until eventually I even made myself a projector and played with it until I came up with these pics.
