The Arcade closes at midnight, do you know where your gacha is?

“ that fragrance which fills the soul with optimism and faith, the fragrance of the crushed beans beneath the jet of boiling water curving from the kettle, the smell of coffee.”

“…that fragrance which fills the soul with optimism and faith, the fragrance of the crushed beans beneath the jet of boiling water curving from the kettle, the smell of coffee.”

In Halldor Laxness’ extraordinary book Independent People, there are well over 150 references to coffee, most of them reverent. That is as it should be. Laxness was Icelandic and they are among the world’s greatest coffee consumers–along with all the other Scandinavians.

Although Swedish-American, I am closer to real Swedes in my coffee consumption. When I was a kid, I put coffee in my milk, sometimes now I will put milk in my coffee when I get a latte, but usually drink it black. There is no perfume in the world quite so warm and evocative as the smell of coffee.

So I was thrilled by the coffee shops at The Arcade. I took some pictures outside the other day, but today I am shooting inside where I combined elements from the RH Designs Coffee House and the PLAAKA Coffee Factory.  The building is from PLAAKA’s coffee factory. I just fell in love with the look of the crumbling old factory being repurposed to serve coffee. The broken down wall and patio appeals to my love of things old and worn.

The Hazards of Working From Home

I’ve had a lot of different work spaces over the years for this blog. My favorite always tends to be a house with enough space and camera friendliness to just simply create a photo spot IN the house.I shoot around the fact that my house is sitting right there, most people never know (you didn’t!) but some days – like today – I keep getting guests in my shots. Remembrance of Poses Past

Missing Posemakers of Days PastI saw a great fashion spread featuring Dominique Tipper in 1843 Magazine a friend brought over because we share a love of The Expanse. All the pictures were composites of the same clothing in different poses, though very different from this one. They all had black backgrounds and vibrantly colored prints. Still, it did inspire me to shoot some pics for a couple composites. Back when my SL inventory was hyper-organized, I filled a couple pose stands by type of pose rather than by pose-maker. Sit and lie poses all organized together. I decided to drag them out and realize that most of the pose-makers in the stands have closed up shop for one reason or another. Among those of us who have blogged for a few years (nine years for It’s Only Fashion), who does not miss the excellent and puntastic poses from Long Awkward Pose or the flash of recognition when seeing a celebrity-inspired iconic pose from Striking Poses?

Missing Pacemakers of Days PastWhile remembering the old, I will also celebrate the new. These Twiggy pants are from Poppy, the new fashion collaboration that opened this month. My shoes are from Juju, new to me and can be found at Shoetopia. The come in a fancy, print version as well.

The hair is from equally new-to-me RunAway and at Hairology. My shirt is from Tres Blah, at Collabor88 and the top underneath is an applier from Luxuria–the texturing half of Poppy. The skin is alaskametro’s Chi released at Skin Fair which just closed up shop, meaning you can find it in the store or marketplace.

Shoetopia Continues To Mesmerize Me

I can’t stop trying on shoes. SHOETOPIA is once again providing amazing options and new shoes for all tastes from casual to kink and every flavor in between. I’ve been standing about my house for days just trying on shoes. It’s a poor blogger girls cross to bear I tell you.

Ok who am I kidding, it’s flipping amazing. SHOES SHOES SHOES SHOES. I love events that focus solely on one thing. I’d go to an EYEBROW fair I swear to god.  Continue reading

Which Way To Shoegasm?

The question was asked yesterday, just before SHOETOPIA opened and I had to laugh and use it for my post. It was posed as a request for a landmark, but I couldn’t resist a bit of license.

Shoetopia IS a Shoegasm however, if you’re a shoe lover as I am. Cajsa has been doing an extensive job blogging all the lovelies and I have to admit, I’m pretty jealous of her presentation skills. She’s got the tools and the talent, and her bright sunny photos make me covet everything I see. (Just like Hannibal Lecter said) Continue reading

Shoetopia – It’s What’s For Supper

It’s entirely possibly my friend and blog partner Cajsa has in fact blogged every single fucking shoe at Shoetopia. Her posts have been gorgeous and comprehensive and i’m baffled at the TIME that must’ve taken.

I didn’t really know how to compete, so I decided I’d just get my tits out.  I didn’t have any “cover up the tits poses” that would work with Hourglass. Maybe I’ll make a set I’m not sure. Clearly it’s a deficit in MY SLife.  Continue reading

Carrie Bradshaw said, “The fact is, sometimes it’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.” I suppose I should credit Candice Bushnell, but the words are Carrie’s. If only Carrie could go to Shoetopia to find some really special ones.

I am featuring several of the boots that will be on sale when Shoetopia opens at noon SLT tomorrow.

Depending on the shoe, I am wearing Maitreya’s Lara or Slink Physique body and feet, both with AlaskMetro’s Chi skin from Skin Fair.

“The trouble with simple living is that, though it can be joyful, rich, and creative, it isn’t simple.”

Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the worldThalia Heckroth™ has made minimalism and simplicity her design signature. But just as  Doris Janzen Longacre was correct when talking about simple living not being simple, minimalist design is just as deceptively complex. Embellishment is easy, structure is hard. Look at the structure on this gorgeously simple dress. Look at the bodice and the way the sleeves are inset. This is a deceptive form of simplicity that is the hallmark of good design. I decided to go for pink, out of the many color choices this dress comes in. I was tired. Pink wakes me up.
