A litte R&R after dying

apr06_014
So I went exploring, looking for a place to shoot and was wandering around this fair when suddenly I fell to my death and was teleported back home. Not one to argue with the SL gods, I decided I would just settle my poor bruised bones on the couch and shoot at home. Besides, I wanted to get this outfit shot for the Same Damn Thing Challenge celebrating Achariya’s contributions to the Second Life fashion/blogging community,

I shot this to show you my favorite feature about my house – the swimming pool. The house is placed in the water naturally, avoiding the use of prim water and sounds. It gives it so much more life and the walkway down to the water is a masterpiece of perspective.

Spooky

apr05_004
I went to the atmospheric haunted sim Innsmouth to shoot this lovely gown from MiaMai. The layered full skirt, the pouf of fabric on the shoulder, the filigree adornment at the neck all seemed perfect for a noir shoot. Add the hot fishnet gloves from Adore & Abhor and I am ready for noir.

Also At Emerald Green…

Cajsa took me exploring on the Emerald Green sim the other night, and I decided it was a good excuse to shoot a few out of the studio. The entire location is so amazing and beautiful I’m probably going to have to go back a few times. There are tons of gorgeous vignettes and scenery. It’s a happy blogger place for shooting.

Those photographer types would probably like it too. Continue reading

The Burlington Northern Don't Stop Here Anymore

mar31_005
As soon as I played this pose animation from Status, I was reminded of countless weekend afternoons spent playing with my nieces down in the pasture. We would ride horses or walk down to Ruffy Brook and after semi-swimming (the deepest spot was about 4 feet deep) we would walk the rails. There was a railroad trestle that crossed a deep ravine over the brook and we would put our ears down and listen for trains. If we heard nothing, we would walk across the trestle. It was always exciting because you could see through the railroad ties and could scare yourself with thoughts of stepping wrong and having one leg fall through the ties or with thoughts of oncoming trains or even of slipping off the rails and falling down into the ravine. Of course, none of those things ever happened. As we got older, we got bolder and would ride horse across the trestle which goes to show that a well-trained horse can be just as idiotic as the person riding him.

Sadly, my nieces children won’t get that same visceral thrill of imminent, but unlikely, death by train as Burlington Northern closed that line. Of course, that makes me think of Jean Richie’s mournful song, The L&N Don’t Stop Here Anymore, that tells how the loss of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad closed the mines and impoverished the people of Hazard, Kentucky. When the Burlington Northern shut down jobs were lost throughout the northern counties of Minnesota. Thanks to the stimulus, unemployment is at a 10 year low of 17%. I know that’s much higher than most places but it was near 30% when I still lived there. It sounds dire, but country folk have more ways to make do than people in cities. And to be completely honest, wild asparagus is much tastier than regular asparagus.

Never thought I’d live to lean to love the coaldust
Never thought I’d pray to hear those temples roar
But God I wish the grass would turn to money
And then them greenbacks would fill my pockets once more
I was born and raised at the mouth of the Hazard Holler
Where the coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door
But now they stand in a rusty road of all empties
Because the L & N don’t stop here anymore

KittyCats Fashion Consultants

My first job, my first REAL job that wasn’t food related or convenience store related, was FASHION CONSULTANT. No lie. That was the job title. It was sort of a dubious title at best as there wasn’t much FASHION going on in my opinion, but in fact my job was to help ladies put together outfits and “looks” – starting with FOUNDATION GARMENTS.
*shudder*
I’m far too lazy to dress myself, though. Luckily, much like Cinderella, I find that I’ve got four legged creatures at hand ready to prance and sing whilst selecting my attire for the day. It all starts when I open my eyes and find two of my beloveds whispering to me that it’s time to awake- and be gorgeous.
Luckily, I’ve already got that part done. Continue reading

A Moonlit Night at Linda Voc

mar28_019
Shopping in Second Life has lots of pleasures – including shopping to help others. For example, the gorgeous skirt is on sale at the Help Japan event and 100% of its proceeds will go to help respond to the people of Japan. The top is an adorable dress on sale at The Dressing Room. Gidge blogged it the other day, but I wanted to show you how well it works as a top as well.

mar28_015
I shot my pictures at Linda Voc, the home sim for Deviant Girls. I was shopping there and will soon be showing you some finds. Right now, though, I want to show you what a gorgeous sim it is. You won’t see this at the shopping mall.

Knock Knock

mar28_006
It was just happenstance that I was at the Help Japan Event when I read the invite from Achariya to come participate in the final hurrah photo for her blog. It said the them was orange. I like orange and could have pulled from inventory, but I was already looking at this dress for the fundraiser. New, orange and lindens for Japan. Perfect.

Chills…They're Multiplyin'

mar27_008

and I’m losing control. It’s electrifyin’. There is an electrifying piece of news for those of us who love Tres Jolie designs. Iota Ultsch, the imaginative designer behind the Tres Jolie curtain, has released a new dress. This is a woman who can take a tired tread and turn it into a hot and sexy dress, so it’s always exciting to see what she’s blended up for us. Crucifix does not disappoint. With a complex duotone pattern, the dresses are in enticing colors that draw your eye. The sexy bounce of the skirt prims just adds to the allure.

Iota doesn’t just make clothing, though. She is an architect and makes bold modern homes and fabulous furniture and art. Here I am posing at my new Abode home just a hop, skip and a jump from the Tres Jolie store.

In love with fabrics

mar24_003

Today’s outfit highlights two items that are so artfully done you can feel the fabric against your avatar. The top is from Gizza, a lovely sheer chiffon with beautiful puffy sleeves and a ruffle. The pants are from Studio Sidhe and I have worn them before. I have had them some time now and still love their linen loveliness. Far superior to real life linen, Second Life® linen does not wrinkle and its little nubbins don’t ever get itchy either, giving you the cool, crisp elegant look of linen without the bother. I love linen, but it’s a bother.

mar24_001
I snapped the pics in a little nook in the river canyon at Dark Moon. It’s a beautiful sim and this pic does not show off any of its highlights such as floating pods of coleus and such. However, the flowers were so beautiful, I opted for their simplicity.

Does This Make My Ass Look Fat?

mar23_004
Possibly one of the most dangerous questions in history, Second Life fashionistas know that system skirts can prompt the question “does this make my ass look fat?” For whatever technical computer-y reason, system skirts seem to float above the body mesh, creating what Phaedra of Real Housewives of Atlanta calls donkey booty. You can prevent donkey booty with a skirt shape. There’s some resistance to this idea, I think folks feel it’s too much work, but really, it’s a short and easy one-time effort.

mar23_009
Here you can see that with my regular shape, there is a bit of a donkey booty. The best made system skirt in the world will give you a bit of a donkey booty unless you already have a very small bottom. Of course, the larger your bottom, the more donkey in the donkey butt there will be. So, you can see there’s reason for making a skirt shape and saving it in your inventory so you have it on hand for all future system skirts.
