Collabor88’s theme for the month is Miami Electric – featuring the electric tropical colors that bring to mind that sunny city. I have never been to Miami, so all I know about it is from the media. Those aerial shots in CSI Miami make it look like an architectural center of excellence – beautiful and pristine. Real Housewives made it seem less than perfect, let’s say but, of course, the strongest influence on my impression of Miami is the infamous Florida man. Let’s just say Florida man probably does not shop at Collabor88. Continue reading

Audrey
When I put on this dress, Half Measures, from Dead Dollz for Penumbra’s Autumn/Winter Fashion Week, I immediately thought of Audrey Hepburn. It has a similar front neckline to the little black dress by Givenchy for Breakfast at Tiffany’s. While the wide circle skirt is a complete opposite to the long, slim pencil skirt of that iconic gown, it is still something she would have worn.
Audrey Hepburn remains one of the great fashion icons achieving a kind of immortality with her legacy – not just in film but in fashion and even more importantly, with her activism. She was far more than a pretty face, but was a wise woman who worked tirelessly on behalf of refugees as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, a passionate commitment that may have risen out of her experiences as a teenager in World War II working as a courier for the resistance while one stepbrother went underground and the other was in a labor camp.
Autocomplete
I have such a hard time remembering hisw to spell Loovus Dzevavor. Thankfully, Google autocomplete finishes it for me. I had a hard time, too, choosing just one of the delightful outfits from the Fall Winter Collection that was released for Penumbra Fashion Week. You can take a peek at a few others on the Loovus web site. I chose the wrap-up top and skirt because I love the inset triangles and how they highlight the curves of my hip. It’s a single mesh piece, but it feel like separates. There are two other versions of this outfit at Penumbra with the same top but different color skirts – brilliant and bold. Continue reading
Petit Chat at Fashion Week
Trinity Yazimoto of Petit Chat is doing something intriguing with her textiles in her Fashion Week collection. She is texturing her clothing with fabrics created from Second Life® photos that she took. In Sweet Mnemosyne, the outfit I am wearing, she using a picture of a woman in a giant bird cage in a field of flowers. I am excited to see someone using Second Life to create clothing textures as it is something new that I have not seen before.
Remembrance
Versus Magazine did a lovely tribute to Squinternet Larnia that was released on the 4th, the one-year anniversary of her death. Tania Tebaldi who wrote and managed Squinternet’s blog for her wrote an essay that showed a different perspective on Squinternet than the one I knew. That’s one of the reasons people come together to mourn their loved ones – because we all know people through different lenses and in sharing our grief, we all get a fuller, rounder perception of the person. Old School, New School
There’s only a few designers with the confidence in their design aesthetic and creative skills to resist the tides of change while simultaneously surfing the waves. Monica Outlander is one of those artists. Her new MiaMai Black Label collection is the perfect exemplar of that duality of leading and trailing edge design.
What do I mean by that? Well, she is using appliers for Slink Mesh attachments to enhance her clothing. Meanwhile, she provides system layers for people who use the default avatar. She is using mesh in many creative ways. Meanwhile, she will use flexi-prims when they suit the design better. It is that flexibility that leads her to use whatever method best suits the design – not just the newest method, that shows confidence and commitment to her own vision.
Unpacked
The move is complete, the bags and boxes unpacked and I have settled into a chair to take a last look before crawling into bed.
The nice thing about moving in Second Life is that one does not have to look the part. I am wearing a mini-dress from 1992 that is the ne plus ultra of hot, sexy modernity. It’s revealing, edgy and definitely “designed” but not at all over-designed. It comes in a solid beige, a solid black or this print – and all can be found at The Dressing Room.
Moving In
Well, I decided to go for it and move into the Brooklyn Carriage House from Trompe L’oeil. It’s smaller than the big brownstone I was living in and requires a lot less furniture, but I ended up buying some furniture anyway, because that’s what happens when you move. You need new things. Among the new things are this lovely vanity that’s also from Trompe L’oeil and a big blue velvet bed from there as well.
I added this glorious lounge/daybed from Mudhoney that can be found at this month’s Collabor88. The golden key embellishment at the bottom and the gorgeous tassels place it firmly within the Odyssey inspiration and that blue is a rich as the Aegean Sea.
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye

I know Gidge blogged this dress from Fission a couple weeks ago. I had already put it on and styled it before I saw her blog post and I have not had the energy to change clothes. I do plan to change clothes sometime today. It’s been two weeks and even pixel clothing can get stale.
Sometimes life can change “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” and nothing is the same after that. Two weeks ago, that happened to my sister when she learned she had breast cancer. She made me promise not to freak out or worry, so I tried, but I did not succeed. When we all lost my brother to cancer; it was easier. I always assumed he would get cancer from chain smoking all his life and that’s what happened. But my sister does not smoke, does not drink except for a glass of wine now and then and, as a nutritionist herself, has always favored a healthy diet and exercise at a local gym. In essence, she did all the right things and still got got dealt the cancer card.
Orange You Glad You Stopped By…
In RL I don’t think I own a stitch of orange clothing and to be honest, I don’t own much of it in SL but when I saw these adorable and cheap skirts and tops from *CoKo* at the Okinawa Summer Festival, I just couldn’t pass it up. Don’t let the vendor fool you, they are actually textured really nice.
