Old School, New School

There’s only a few designers with the confidence in their design aesthetic and creative skills to resist the tides of change while simultaneously surfing the waves. Monica Outlander is one of those artists. Her new MiaMai Black Label collection is the perfect exemplar of that duality of leading and trailing edge design.

What do I mean by that? Well, she is using appliers for Slink Mesh attachments to enhance her clothing. Meanwhile, she provides system layers for people who use the default avatar. She is using mesh in many creative ways. Meanwhile, she will use flexi-prims when they suit the design better. It is that flexibility that leads her to use whatever method best suits the design – not just the newest method, that shows confidence and commitment to her own vision.

This outfit combines the Arawn bodysuit with the Grace skirt, two items from the Fall Black Label Collection from MiaMa. Appliers, mesh and flexes are used. Her vision trumps the all-mesh-all-the-time expectations of 2014 design and reminds everyone that mesh has its place, but not every place.

The letter, by the way, come from a little builder’s
tool thing I purchased on Marketplace to make letters. I wanted a script letter C, but ended up getting this clever little thingie that you click and then type what you want and it makes the letters, big and small. They aren’t connected, so you do have to link them together and texture them. I was playing around and decided to make a lighted sign. Really, it was just for fun, though I did drop the finished one on Monica in case she likes it. I don’t really make stuff – so I don’t get to reverse roles with a designer very often and give them something.

The back is just fabulous with ruffly wings and lace and everything pretty. The hair is from INK, the Zeus hair for men from Collabor88. Gender is not binary, you know. Especially for hair!

Wicked pumps from Hucci (at August Collabor88) kind of bring everything together, don’t they?

The skin is one of the many options in the Glam Affair Gacha machine at The Arcade. This is a common skin, though there’s nothing common about the quality. The skin comes in two color options, Jamaica and Asia and then there are a couple pale as porcelain rares as well.
