The Dressing Room Of The Fifty Foot Woman

The Dressing Room of The Fifty Foot Woman

I must’ve taken about 20 pics in the new WinxBox for this month’s My Attic event. It’s one of my favorite sales as they do such a nice job of keeping it fresh.

W.Winx and Flair collaborate most months to create that mainstay of blogger crack – the pose prop box. This month’s themed event is CHANGES and so they’ve released this CHIC dressing room pose prop.

It’s so much fun I couldn’t help but be a bit silly. Continue reading

Why I Blog Meme

apr24_005

Strawberry Singh in her seemingly infinite curiosity has a new meme asking people to explain why they blog. I figure that is something I have to be able to answer.

How long have you been blogging? Since January 1, 2008.

Why did you start blogging? For all the free stuff, of course. Joking!!! I blogged for months before I ever received a single preview copy from a designer. People who blog know that even with promotional copies, there are all sort of expenses since there is more to an outfit that a piece of clothing. There’s the shoes, the hair, the jewelry, etc. I am sure a few people start blogging with that moment and they are the ones who quit blogging in three months. For me, I love fashion and love styling outfits. I also wanted to challenge myself as photographer. And clearly, I have to be a bit of a show-off to holler “Hey, Look at me! See what I’m wearing” once a day.

How many times a week do you post an entry? I try to post daily. I like to imagine my readers checking once a day and I don’t want to disappoint them by not having new content.

Apr24_004

How many different blogs do you read on a regular basis? I read hundreds of blogs. I check the several feeds, but I also have use a reader for blogs that aren’t on feeds. Besides Second Life blogs, I read fashion blogs, news and opinion blogs and online magazine sites.

Do you comment on other people’s blogs? Not as often as I should. I would comment more if CAPCHA died in a fire.

Do you keep track of how many visitors you have? Yes and no. When I think of it, I do. However, I have not added Google Analytics or anything to really get a complete view of my visitors. I just look at the built-in WordPress stats. I would love to get an aggregate count of blog and feed views.

Did you ever regret a post that you wrote? No. I am pretty judicious in what I blog. Most of it is about fashion. Occasionally I have addressed one or another issue that is roiling the community, but I think I am able to bring a fair analysis to them. I do not expect to please everyone. That would be banal.

Do you think your readers have a true sense of who you are based on your blog? A bit, not a complete sense. I don’t discuss politics on my blog, so there’s a big piece of my personal interests and passion left out.

Do you blog under your real name? Not my real name, but my real Second Life pseudonym. My blog is pseudonymous, not anonymous.

apr24_006

What is the theme/topic of your blog? The main topic is clearly Second Life fashion. I also write about my life, what I think about things and sometimes I do tutorials.

Do you have more than one blog? If so, why? Yes. I also have Blogging Second Life, Second Sites and Single Servings. The first is not so much a blog, but a directory of Second Life stores and blogs. Second Sites is a place anyone can post a pic and slurl to create a collection of SL sims. Single Servings is a recipe/cooking blog. I also blog about Second Life art and photography at Shopping Cart Disco, though I have been slacking lately on that one. I feel like I have said everything and am just repeating myself.

What have you found to be the benefits of blogging? It’s a method of self-expression. More importantly, it provides structure, discipline and a focus objective in Second Life – something to do. It has connected me to the broader SL community. It’s fun, probably the most important benefit.

Gidge’s Fast Five: April 25 – Avatars Doing Things and Going Places

GidgeFast Five
Today I am focusing on avatars doing my favorite things – being out in the grid and living their second existence.

1. Owlfit 336: Despite her pics being bigger than they are supposed to be for the feed – they are cute pics so I forgive her.  I love the sassy look, a cute casual out and about on a hot day styling. I want to go to this cafe and order pie now. Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 23rd

Fast Five I have been under the weather the last few days. It’s funny how our emotions effect our health. I am sure that my feeling sick is more about today being the anniversary of my dad’s death than any little bacteria sneaking up on me. Oh well, even if I don’t feel up to shooting some pictures, I do have enough energy to browse the blogs for some highlights. Hope you like them.

  1. From the Rooftops for Gidge Uriza: I have been telling Gidge for a long time that she should write about about parenting autistic children. So many “experts” pretend that there is something transformative in the struggle, that people are ennobled by their experience. I suppose that could be comforting. You’re changing diapers for an 8 year old, but it makes you holy.

Gidge has no such delusions and I think it would be a great comfort to parents who are overwhelmed with anxiety and frustration to have someone acknowledge that is really is hard and there’s a lot of shit, literal and figurative to deal with. I think someone needs to be honest and admit that sometimes parents get tired, cranky and frustrated and while it’s not noble, it’s honest.
That is something Gidge does – and while she’s not writing that damn book yet, she is going to start a mutual support group. Sasy Scarborough wrote all about it and provides the link to add your name if you want to participate. You should check it out and share that info with friends who may need a reminder that they don’t have to be saintly to be good parents to autistic children.

Fantasy Fair Is More Than That

Retro Is My Fantasy

Second Life is a fantasy world for us all. I’m perfectly thin, I’m blonde again (the color of my childhood hair). My house is never messy and and I can simply log out when I’m annoyed.

It’s a shame then that awesome events like Fantasy Faire sometimes get looked at like “oh if I don’t have elf ears or cloven hooves it’s not for me.” Continue reading

A Funny Story

AAAAAAND Stretch

The RL conspired to keep me off the grid most of the weekend. Which is just as well because RL>SL yet, I missed my virtual piece of sanity. So I enjoyed wrapping up my Sunday evening with a little relaxation in my new Lazy Ass Pajamas from A:S:S – literally Pho – the grid needs more pajamas that don’t make you look like a 20 dollar hooker. Well done. Continue reading

Cajsa Fast Five: April 21st

Fast Five[]===23ww34! Oscar says “hello” as he butts his head and purrs in my ear. I felt like purring myself when I read the lovely post from Chalice Carling called The Givers of SL. Thank you so much, Chalice. Gidge and I are both very grateful.

  1. N0. 230: Jillsun Beverly does a great job styling with creativity and imagination. In this outfit, she makes a Gorean tunic out of a Maitreya cocktail dress. Thanks to Lourdes Denimore for sharing the post on plurk.
  2. Fantasy Faire 2013: The Muses Instead of linking directly to Grazia Horwitz’s specific post featuring an incredibly beautiful dress, the first link takes you to her front page so you can admire her clever blog design that features front page teases in black and white that lead to the full-color full picture posts behind the cut. I love this look. It’s so chic. And the post with the dress is amazing, too.  Continue reading

Birds of a Feather

apr20_004

So I am under the weather today, enough so that looking at the computer makes me dizzy. So this is going to be short and sweet. The mesh dress is from Vero Moderno. Love it. It looks good without the shoulder puff attachments too. Really love the bracelets from Goucci. They are color-change. I wish they were resizable. They just barely fit. They are no mod, and the script only changes color, not size. But I love the silver and white boldness.

Because of Barnesworth Anubis…

Because of Barnesworth Anubis

I was absolutely taken back in time with the set of retro furniture released by Barnesworth Anubis for Collabor88.

My own Uncle George, the mecca of style and culture from my childhood, owned almost EXACTLY this furniture.

He’d designed and built a house, with a proper formal double parlour. One half of the room was southwestern, with lots of amazing things from his trips to Mexico displayed all over. The other half though, was this amazing post modern blue and white SQUARE funiture.

Paired with bleached blonde wood (allegedly from Sweden) he even had a blonde piano in that half of the room. The furniture was leather, but felt like glossy plastic. As though someone had made furniture out of patent leather shoes, yet it was in fact true leather. He polished it every week with a special product he had shipped in from somewhere.

Is It a Crime To Be So Happy?

This wasn’t lounging furniture. This was sitting up properly and visiting after dinner furniture. Or receiving guests furniture. Or listening to the piano being played furniture.

The animals WERE NOT allowed on the furniture.

I suppose that accounts for my small rebellion above. I hope he forgives me.

So because of Barnesworth Anubis, I had a stroll down memory lane. It made me a little teary and a little happy.  I wish I had that damn furniture now.
