I Suppose I Should Read the Instructions

jul01_018

So when Siddean Munro released the new Slink Physique mesh body, I rushed to message PXL Creation’s Hart Larsson to urge him to make appliers as soon as possible. Since he just released a new skin, I was hopeful. Sure enough, the new appliers have been released. Best of all, they will apply his skins to the body, hands and feet, so there’s no need for triple HUDDing to change skins.  I eagerly put them on and then pushed the buttons and
Screen Shot 2014-07-02 at 12.09.51 AM  nothing happened. I sent an panicky IM to Hart – “It does’t work!” He said do this, do that, take off this, put on that and I think he was beginning to freak out, too, when all of a sudden I pressed the special breast customization buttons and there it was. I was doing it wrong! It worked perfectly from the beginning, but I was not pressing the right buttons. So, to make it work, press the silver buttons that select small or natural breasts and freckled small or natural breasts. That big circle in the center is just there to show you the skin tone.  So now you know!

Gin & Tonic

jun29_002

The bright lemon and lime colors in the top and skirt from Tee*fy make me happy.  It makes me think of hot summer days and cold summer drinks.  I have a real love for gin & tonic and that crushed fresh lime is so wonderful. I love salads made with some fresh squeezed lemon juice or lime juice and generally buy a 3 pound bag of lemons every month. I used to buy about a dozen limes every month, too, but they have gotten too expensive, doubling in price since last year.

Games People Play

jun26_001

When your television reception varies depending on the cloud cover, you tend not to get addicted to watching any particular program since you never know what channels you will receive at any given time. We lived too far from town for cable and did not have a satellite dish, so we did not watch a lot of television. Instead we played a lot of games, including dominoes. It was not the family favorite; that was whist. We also really liked canasta, cribbage,  and Scrabble® . But Dominoes had its rotation in the games we played during those bitterly cold winter evenings. I have a game ready in my living room anytime you want to play.

jun26_003My outfit is playful today, a flirty little top with a print of license plants from Osito that I bought at Fashion For Life last week and a bi-color leather skirt from NYU for Fameshed this month. This skirt comes in all sorts of colors and I was hard-ressed to choose one.

Come Back to the House in Marfa.

0625_003

When I rezzed the Scarlet Creative Stargazer house in the sand, it immediately brought to mind the unforgettable house from Giant in the way it sat alone and defiant without any plants or trees to soften its edges and settle it into the environment.

Jimmy Dean poster 3

This made me think of another great film inspired by the original, Robert Altman’s Come Back to the Five & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. I may be branded a heretic for all time for this, but I much prefer the underrated Altman film to the much-honored classic that inspired it.

I think it was the performance by Sandy Dennis that made this film so memorable for me. It was the first time I had seen her in a film and she blew me away. I know the Stargazer house is much smaller and not as quaintly Victorian, but I am sure you can see how I made the connection.

Fashion For Life Comes to an End

jun20 b_002

Fashion For Life closes in  just three short hours from now and it is a bittersweet moment for me. I am relieved to have made it to the end without major disasters and dramas. Sure, there were glitches and hiccups and moments of anxiety – par for the course for any event involving more than 200 people.  As a species, we come with glitches attached. I am going to miss running the 10 sim circuit from sim to sim to sim to do the daily restarts. I was asked not to restart them all at once, so I figured a run from one end of a sim to the other, following the path, would take me about the right amount of time between each restart. I always did run astray at Perambulate though, tempted off the track by the skate park. Anyway, it has been a wonderful project, raising thousands of dollars for the critical work of the American Cancer Society as it leads global efforts to prevent, treat and cure cancer.

One of the Champions – the large donors whose co-sponsorship of the sims allows all event proceeds to go to Relay For Life – was Mon Cheri of “falsies” fame. Her eyelashes are favorites of people across the grid and even Gidge who has a love-hate relationship with attached lashes likes them. She made several exclusives for Fashion For Life including this adorable summer dress Sachi – which she released in several color combinations.

I Found Klimpt at Fashion For Life

jun20a_002

I could not resist this Marakesh gown from Sabra Style at Fashion For Life, it immediately called to mind one of my favorite artists – Gustav Klimpt. That’s his Birch Trees in the background, but it’s the gold and brown bugle beads in an art deco pattern than made me think so much of his work .  Continue reading

Pop! Goes Zanze

0620_001

Zzoiee Zee had such fun designs at her store Zanze that I had a hard time choosing one to feature. I eventually chose this one which come with a texture changing hud allowing me to change the fabric to different color versions of this print. I opted for black and white because I love watching projectors interplay with fabric in my pictures. You can see some really cool details such as the bands of fabric. Not just the white band at the hem but the small band of reverse print – white on black instead of black on white – right above the white band. The zipper inset and the small shrug are all great details that make this a far more interesting dress that deserves a second and third look to appreciate its totality.  Continue reading

You Put the Flame on It

jun18_001

My life was cold
You put the flame on it
This heart of mine
You wrote your name on it
With such style
I couldn’t look away from it
Two thousand miles
I wouldn’t stay away from it

Charles Bradley, Thomas Brenneck

Mami puts the flame on me with this fiery red gown that is an exclusive for Fashion For Life. 100% of the proceeds are donated to Fashion For Life. The fiery glow of this gown seems almost a metaphor for the flame of hope in all our hearts that working together, where our “two and two and fifty make a million,” we will change the future for all of us. Our efforts combined with others across the world will change the future by supporting the American Cancer Society. Fewer people will get cancer because of our combined efforts. More people will discover their cancer earlier and begin treatment sooner with a greater chance of success thanks to our combined efforts. More cancers will become treatable and survivable with our combined efforts. None of us can make a difference alone, but together we can move mountains. Continue reading

When a Picture Is Not Enough

There were a few dresses at Fashion For Life that really needed more than a picture. A thousand words might help, but I think in this case a video that can be made easily with the help of Video production company Toronto is a better option. These two dresses from Likka House are great fun costumes. They would justify planning your own circus party – Look at the carousel horses. When you are running out and about you can turn them off so you won’t lag.

Ghee’s Gown of a Different Color and the Laced Up shoes are kind of crazy wonderful creations that reminds me of that old group, Not Possible In Real Life. Do you remember the group? I loved it and miss it quite a bit – it was a celebration of all that is special and unique about Second Life – just as these outfits are.

Forgive my poor videography, my computer is old and tired and when I do a video it crawls in a corner, curls into a fetal position and whimpers.

Only Four More Days of Fashion For Life

0616_006

Have you been to Fashion For Life yet? If not, you only have four more days. There’s more than 150 stores across 10 beautifully designed sims. There’s no lag, so you can enjoy skateboarding in the skate park at FFL Perambulate or strolling on the sand at FFL Meander or enjoying a space bar worthy of Han Solo on FFL Promenade. For these pictures, I visited FFL Journey which explores steampunk stream transit with everything from steam cars to a steam hearse.

My jacket is from FBD Design one of the Champions sponsoring the sims these year. FBD is rebranding to Mooh! so in the future look for it under that name. I love the mix of punk and baroque elements in one jacket. It’s fun, funky and oh-so-fashionable.
