I have been too long gone from home. I completely missed St. Urho’s Day – somehow thinking it was the day after St. Patrick’s Day rather than the day before. Nonetheless, I will celebrate it anyway by wearing this lovely purple dress – from the newly reopened Modern Gypsy. I will pass on the purple beer, but seriously, you have to love a holiday that calls for wearing purple clothing!

Probably in the reality-based community. St. Urho’s Day is a made up holiday – invented by a tall tale teller from the Iron Range who made it up as a response to teasing that that Finns had no good holidays like the Irish did. It caught on, was popularized with a radio prank and began being celebrated across Minnesota – and then the United States and has even traveled to Finland where they celebrate the holiday, too. But it all began as a joke. However, Minnesotans take St. Urho seriously as you can see by this statue in Menagha.
The gorgeous belt and the leggings come with the dress from Modern Gypsy. I added some socks from Maitreya, shoes from Digit Darkes and a black scarf from Irelyn’s. You know, when I want shoes out of the ordinary – bold and with many colors, I think of Digit Darkes. I know she’s not primarily a shoe-maker, but she certainly makes some of the most imaginatively colored and textured shoes.
Here you can see the scarf and jewelry I chose for this outfit. Irelyn’s scarf was black and grey but I tinted it solid black for this outfit. The bangle and earrings are from MMLuxe and the hairstyle is a new one from LeLutka with a lovely braid down the back.
