I love Innovations, with a capital or a lower case I. DG Innovations has long been a favorite store since I first discovered it last year looking for a ball gown for Christmas. It’s well named as the fashions range far and wide in inspiration but stay close to home and consistent in quality. I wasn’t looking or needing anything new when I dropped by Innovations yesterday – not at all – but then I saw this and all was lost.
The bulk of the dress is a gorgeous black lurex with the perfect blend of black and silver glitter. Usually lurex is used only in body-skimming draped dresses, but designers are pushing the limits on fabrics, using them in new ways. Innovations, if I may, in how fabric is used. For example, Pamella Roland has achieved some miracles with lurex in her Fall 2008 collection.
What really wins my heart, though, is the wonderful harlequin print on the bodice and hem. Bright green, yellow, orange and pink – a bold contrast to the black dress and a declaration of joy. It pulled out a marvelous new work from elros tuominen to show it off, but of course, the glow affects the photographs in odd ways. The art work is about 2 stories high and is called Frantic life and some other colours.
Such vibrant color demanded great vibrant makeup so I decidedon this LionSkins makeup – bold in color and in design.Petal Meg’s coleus jewelry and Digit Darkes Petals shoes finished the ensemble.
