Rescued

“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”

My great-niece recently rescued a couple horses from a kill pen, the third generation of horse rescuers in my family. Kill pen horses are usually sold for pet food because they are considered problematic, untrainable, vicious and dangerous. They usually require a level of training most people just will not invest. In time, though, they can learn to trust and be trusted. If you want to see the evidence, see my great-grand niece cleaning this rescued horse’s hooves just two weeks into training…and the foundations for a fourth generation of rescuers begins. It was thinking about them, the work they are doing, and that two other nieces are doing, that I thought I might take this month’s house from Barnesworth for Collabor88 and set up a farm. I tinted it, one of the things I love about Barnesworth homes.

She turned to the sunlight and shook her yellow head, and whispered to her neighbor: “Winter is dead.”

“She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head, And whispered to her neighbor: "Winter is dead.”I don’t even remember when I purchased Filter Forge®, the popular third-party companion to PhotoShop® that lets you apply fancy filters to your photos. It was long ago, maybe 2008 or 2009. Anyway, I don’t even use PhotoShop anymore as my laptop has no CD/DVD drive to allow me to install it. With materials, shadows, mesh bodies, and all the other controls we have over our raw shots, there’s no real need for PhotoShop either, except for the super fancy portraits with painted hair and so on. I still use Filter Forge from time to time for the fun of it. I just open photos directly in the software. Anyway, it’s 80% off today so I thought I would play with it and let you all know that it’s deeply discounted. Please note, that is an ordinary link with no clever code that gives me some compensation for promoting their software. I just have the basic package, the cheapest one, and it has everything I need. I don’t need to do pictures bigger than 3000 by 3000, so it’s enough for me. The filter I am using today is Retro Imaging. All the filters are free, you only buy the software. Update: By the way, don’t get stressed by the discount ending today. They run a deep discount several times a year, so if you don’t do it today, you will get another chance in the next few months.

“She turned to the sunlight And shook her yellow head, And whispered to her neighbor: "Winter is dead.”I am wearing an adorable dress and jacket from Decoy. It has a color change HUD with all sorts of options in prints and solids for the dress and matching solid colors for the jacket. The prints are inspired by Collabor88’s Greenery theme and if you get the big pack, there are some exclusive very bright, bold saturated color prints as well. That was not my mood this morning when I was snapping pictures so I went for the pastels, dreamy prints, probably because it was 3 AM and I was taking pics before I went to sleep.

Fingers Crossed

“You don't have to be a big name to do big things. Shine does not require recognition.”Bento makes me happier than I thought it would. My happiness comes from things like these poses from Gingerfish that have Bento hand movements built right in. When Bento first came out, I was dubious, afraid that more complexity would strain my already struggling computer to the breaking point. I also moaned about one more thing to learn. I dawdled. I did not rush to buy bento hands immediately. I waited hoping it would all be figured out by someone else or even just go away. But it didn’t and both Slink and Maitreya released hands optimized for Bento and my computer did not fold over in a faint. So here we are. Animators are busy adapting and creating poses that capitalize on this new expressiveness and I am wondering why I was such a grouch about it. I guess I must be getting crotchety in my old SLage.

“You don't have to be a big name to do big things. Shine does not require recognition.”I kind of fell in several sorts of love with the skirt and jacket from Emery. The Stella skirt has two options with a latte stripe or a pearl stripe. The Bastet jacket has bold lapels that give it a relaxed, casual air while being very fashion conscious. They are at Collabor88 this month and a knotted tee is also sold to accompany them. I decided to go a different way, though, and chose this top from Baiastice.

“You don't have to be a big name to do big things. Shine does not require recognition.”I stopped off at Gacha Gardens and picked up some backdrops for photos from RAMA. I love that they used materials, so the sunshine sets it ablaze.  Continue reading

Pink Makes Everything Pretty

Pink Makes Everything Look PrettyAltair’s dress for Collabor88 is as flirty as it can be. It comes in a range of colors and with a HUD to change the colors of the bow and the ribbon at the babydoll waist and the hem. I chose pink because pink makes things pretty.

If you’re going to do something tonight that you’ll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late.

If you're going to do something tonight that you'll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late.

If you're going to do something tonight that you'll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late.

Henny Youngman once said, “If you’re going to do something tonight that you’ll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late.” It makes me sort of want to see one of his routines. I kind of think this little romper might lead to doing things tonight…so I will sleep late. You can find your own in Birdy’s gacha at The Arcade. Be sure to sleep late.

Our imagination is the only true freedom we have.

Our imagination is the only true freedom we have

Our imagination is the only true freedom we have. Before you decide that is depressing and melodramatic, consider this. What really impinges on our freedom more than anything? Is it the government or is it the mores and expectations of friends, family, and community? What stops us from pursuing our dreams, the police or our fears?  There are many things that hold us back, health, financial limitations, even time, but for those of us who live in a relatively free society, we are the ones who limit our freedom. One way to overcome financial limitations is by investing wisely, including options like buying cryptocurrency in the UK. By taking control of our financial futures, we can unlock greater possibilities and experiences.

As a white woman in the United States, I am relatively free of governmental repression. Of course, there are many cultural limits on women’s freedom and if some get their way, there will be governmental restrictions as well. But given the continuum of freedom in the world, I am comfortably situated on the relatively free section.

I have been arrested a few times for my political activities and always released with an apology. For people who are not white, police encounters are more dangerous. In fact, over-policing and police impunity are repressive, a form of unofficially sanctioned terrorism to set the limits on the movements and aspirations of people of color. Nonetheless compared to many places in the world, we continue to enjoy a relatively high degree of political freedom–for the moment. That may change, as some states are trying to criminalize protest and political activity.

The idea that our imagination is our only true freedom makes me think of Mahatma Gandhi who said, “You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind.” This is real freedom. That is why we are the ones who keep us unfree and we are the only ones who can liberate us.

Epictetus said we had the freedom of choice whether we stand at the podium or in a prison. I think of Epictetus when I think about Donald Trump. He may be the “leader of the free world” but he is one of the least free beings I can think of. He is a prisoner of his desperate need for approval and praise. He is a prisoner of rage, it clouds his judgment and incapacitates his reason. He will never be content, not to mention happy, because he is a prisoner of fear. No matter how many podia he speaks from, he will never be free.

Real freedom is in peace of mind, in being able to make your choices without fear or anger. Real freedom is when your mind is free of emotional traps, societal limitations and cultural prisons. So, yes, our imagination is the only true freedom we have…if we dare to grasp it.

Who Doesn’t Love Paddington?

“A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.”

So, when I saw ALT by TRUTH was releasing an item called Paddington, I was expecting a coat. Who wouldn’t? Thinking about it, though, a classic crew neck sweater and button down shirt is what Jonathan and Judy would have worn. They were very proper and tucked in their shirts, but who cares about that when such a gorgeous and versatile sweater, an investment set, is released. I really appreciate it when the creator notes what items work well under their mesh pieces. There is a color change hud that allows you to choose eleventy million (24) colors for the sweater and the shirt, plus a dozen prints and even three button colors.

“A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.”

So, I wanted to wear a pencil skirt and tried on a few. I chose this one from Emery because the fabric is exactly right for this outfit.

Folkloric

although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a sort of enormous rainbow of every possible color you could imagine

I always like to bust up sets and mix and match because it shows that the clothing people make in Second Life is more versatile than we think. For that reason, even though the Irina cropped sweater I am wearing from The Secret Store comes with a beautiful skirt that coordinates with it, I chose to wear a different skirt to show it can be done. Of course, you know and I know it can be done, but a reminder is useful.  Continue reading

Stories & Folklore

With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

The theme for Collabor88 this month is StoryTime and the creations showcased are a rich display of folkloric traditions and influences. There is a lot of embroidery, a lot of beautiful colors and rich traditional fabrics. Sissy Pessoa ran with the idea into a more modern direction with this gown and capelet. It has all the traditional flower forms, but the dress itself is quite modern and made even more so in the sheer version.

With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

It’s Only Fashion Is Back

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

Our web site was down. Somehow there was a virus in the database. Is that not the strangest thing? I don’t know if that would affect readers or not, but thankfully it’s been fixed.

I shot these pictures last week. I was still shocked by the Orwellian phrase “alternate facts” that in a healthy society would completely discredit the people who promote them. But, since people no longer distinguish between fact and opinion, alternate facts seem to be growing. Aldous Huxley, though, had the right idea. “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.”
