Lavea Alter has a longer history in Second Life® than many may first realize. She opened a store years ago called A-Bomb which featured a lot of retro clothing before taking a sabbatical from SL. When she returned, she opened a new store, starting from scratch with Fission where her retro rockabilly style continues to shine.

It’s Only Fashion: What was your first day in Second Life like? What made you stick it out through the learning curve?
Lava Alter: A friend who played begged me for weeks until I finally agreed to play. My learning curve was pretty easy since I had someone to show me the ropes. The first thing she did was take me to buy some hair, and I was thrilled to get a purple bob!
IOF: What’s the craziest thing you ever did in Second Life? Most exciting? Silliest?
LA: I don’t feel like I’ve done anything really crazy, but my brand of silly normally involves me putting on questionable items found in the dark corners of marketplace for the amusement of others. As for the most exciting, it was probably opening up that first mainstore of A-Bomb several years ago. I zoomed my view out and stared at it for at least an hour with a huge smile on my face. It’s fall and that means that plaid is in bloom. While nothing prevents us from wearing plaid in the spring and summer and nothing prevents us from having plaid cottons, taffetas, silks and organzas, we still most often see plaid in rich, cozy wools perfect for cool, crisp autumn days. This plaid skirt and cowl sweater are from Shai Delacroix. I remember in 2008, my friends and I would make weekly pilgramages to Casa del Shai to see if and what she may have released. She took a bit of a sabbatical for a bit, but since her return she has been releasing all sorts of new and wonderful mesh with a focus on great separates for everyday wear.
There is no greater thrill for a fashionista than to have some design named after them. If you have a name many folks don’t know how to pronounce, it’s even more thrilling because it doesn’t happen very often. So, yes! I was thrilled when Thalia Heckroth named her newest gown in my honor. I was even more thrilled though, seeing it’s modern lines and minimalist style.
Autumn has been painting its palette all across Second Life for the past month. I stopped by Izzie’s because it is always one of the most beautiful seasonal sims and sure enough, Izzie’s portrait of autumn is beautiful. In fact, it’s so lovely, I decided to use a paint filter on one of my snaps to turn it into a painting. If you stop by Izzie’s, don’t touch the kitty, she is shy.

Well I got a new nightgown at DON’T PANIC but, it seems to be a used item. It’s kind of, dirty. But I’m really tired, so i’m going to just let it go and wash it tomorrow. I’m tired, and I’ve got a new little snuggly OOPSIE to cuddle at bed time. I have to admit it’s really cute and goes well with the bunny headband and hair from PLOOM. Continue reading

I happened to stumble into her gacha room with all of her old ARCADE round items – and OMG I WANTED THIS CAR.
