Folkloric

although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a sort of enormous rainbow of every possible color you could imagine

I always like to bust up sets and mix and match because it shows that the clothing people make in Second Life is more versatile than we think. For that reason, even though the Irina cropped sweater I am wearing from The Secret Store comes with a beautiful skirt that coordinates with it, I chose to wear a different skirt to show it can be done. Of course, you know and I know it can be done, but a reminder is useful.  Continue reading

Stories & Folklore

With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

The theme for Collabor88 this month is StoryTime and the creations showcased are a rich display of folkloric traditions and influences. There is a lot of embroidery, a lot of beautiful colors and rich traditional fabrics. Sissy Pessoa ran with the idea into a more modern direction with this gown and capelet. It has all the traditional flower forms, but the dress itself is quite modern and made even more so in the sheer version.

With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?

V for Victory

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always

The Borg Loses in the End

This, to me, is the ultimately heroic trait of ordinary people; they say no to the tyrant and they calmly take the consequences of this resistance. Philip K. Dick

Yesterday, three million women and men marched in every state and on every continent in the world. Every continent, even Antarctica. In 51° below Kotzebue, Alaska, people marched. In sunshine and rain storms, desert heat and arctic cold, people gathered to resist. Of course, the naysayers mocked and dismissed. “Resistance is futile,” they quote The Borg, an implicit confession of corruption. They forget, the Borg is destroyed in the end.

Building dikes to hold back the tides of fear

We must build dikes of courage to hold back the tides of fear.

And bring your dollies three

“It's too cold outside for angels to fly.”

Blueberry / Show Time / Maitreya – Nel Shoe

Hey, hey, oh playmate,
Come out and play with me
And bring your dollies three
Climb up my apple tree

Slide down my rain barrel
Into my cellar door
And we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more.

“It's too cold outside for angels to fly.”

And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been.

And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been. Rainer Marie Rilke

Rilke was right to note that the new year would be full of things that have never been. Every new year brings us innovation, discovery and change. In that, every new year brings us something to hope for despite looming dangers. Despite the many losses that have made 2016 a bitter and sorrowful year, I fear we may look back on it with longing as the Grand Panjandrum takes the oath he will break that very day and every day that follows.

Tomorrow will follow tomorrow and time goes forward inexorably. All we can do, then, as we teeter on the edge of the abyss, is resist despair, resist defeat and find sanctuary in community, in beauty, and in certain knowledge that the arc of the moral universe may have gotten a kink in it, but it still bends toward justice.

Subtlety

“Remembering. Forgetting. I'm not sure which is worse.”

I like subtle shifts in tone. As much as I love rich saturated colors, I also love the neutral tans, beiges, and ecrus. The ALT Cadet Dress comes with a color change HUD that lets me choose bold colors or subtle ones. I gravitated toward the subtle this time.

A Sound of Thunder

A Sound of Thunder

There was a downpour yesterday, raining so heavy that at times it looked like it was dark out during the day. While it was cold, grim, and miserable outside, inside was warm with food, friendship, and the fellowship of good company. Countering the gray, cloudy rain, there was a bright yellow sun in the form of this lovely minidress from Decoy for Collabor88.

To fly we have to have resistance

To fly we have to have resistance

Resistance is not futile. Resistance gives flight to hope and defies despair. Resistance reminds us that we are a better nation when we embrace social and racial justice. While the arc of history just got a big kink in its bend toward justice, it still bends. We have lived experience that gay rights, women’s rights, civil rights and human rights are empowering, not weakening our country. They cannot erase that knowledge, the lived experience of Americans who saw that gay rights bring joy, that trans liberation brings freedom, that women’s rights brings advancement, that immigrant rights bring progress, and that human rights bring progress. They can try to take away those rights, but the living experience of our people prove their crabbed and cruel vision of the future is a lie. We will prevail in the long run. They are on the wrong side of history which is why even their temporary victory fills them with rage instead of celebration.

Meanwhile, we can still enjoy life…and fashion.
