All of the changes to my SL, and in fact in many instances to my RL, happen in the Fall. Perhaps it’s the changing leaves, driving me to change my own colors and new beginnings.

No pictures in this post. I don’t want to associate anyone’s lovely work with my complaining grumpy post about the clear evidence that Linden Lab’s left hand has no idea what its right hand it doing – and vice versa.
The newest update to the viewer broke something for us Mac users. I did all the usual steps to fix it, clean install, etc. Since it was a new update to the viewer, I headed to he JIRA and searched to see if someone else had already reported it. There was nothing, so I wrote a short report.
Shortly after, I was informed that it was a duplicate of BUG-3848 and the issue was closed. Unfortunately, the staff person did not provide a link to BUG-3848 so I could check if there was a work-around or see how much they were going to prioritize fixing it. I tried searching for it by number but that was forbidden. Browsing the 15,000 plus returns for the word snapshot also revealed nothing. Don’t worry, I am not insane, I sorted alphabetically so I did not actually look at every heading. I finally found a link to it via Google, but it turns out I did not have permission to see it. I bet you don’t either.

This isn’t a fashion post today. It’s an announcement, a sharing of information. It’s an invitation to gather, to remember, maybe to mourn, maybe to celebrate a life.
On Saturday, September 14th everyone is warmly welcomed to come to Florencia where the Donna Flora main store is located and take the teleport down to the ground level. A memorial garden has been graciously constructed by the amazing Saiyge Lotus, for us all to gather at remember our friend.
At 9 am SLT we will hold a gathering and all are welcome to come, share stories, and feel the warmth and friendship of being with other people who also cared about Squintenet.
Saiyge has also created a special memorial tree, for everyone to take a copy of and plant at your own home, if you so wish.
The garden will remain open during the rest of September and anyone is welcome to use it for your own memorial or to come visit, at any time.

Hate Me and Eat Me came out with this awesome new nosering, such a cheeky take on the SRS BZNS rings that I had to wear it right away. It’s so Rococo, it’s mad. I’m wearing it with new boob bandaids from Plastik. They come in so many different colors that they’d suit ALL of your pastel boob bandaid needs (and I know that I personally have many). The outfit is entirely from Trinite, the Ryder outfit. I haven’t worn an over-boob shirt in a while, but I love that it’s cutified by the floppy gartered armwarmers. Nice balance between cute and hoe. Oh and these eyes are still new, the chartreuse color from The Stringer Mausoleum.
My FLF item is that cool floaty cloud memory board from Sway. I’m so lame with textures lately that I only have me to populate the three photo spaces. Jackal, stop being so busy in your real life! I need more pretty photos of you!

I am not the IOF queen of extremely pretty enormous face shots, Hybie, Gidge, and Cajsa are. But I totally stole their style to show you these vivid eyes and playful web lashes. The eyes are from The Stringer Mausoleum, and Helena says they’ll be in a special edition pack of four colors for purchase by her group (tangerine, saffron, lime and chartreuse colors). There are other new colors of these eyes out from TSM too (not group-only), and Phire posted about the very cat-like yellow set over at her blog Style Genesis.

In my last post, I speak for the trees, I mentioned that dwindling profit to the vendors has cut short the life of the beautiful sim Oubliette. I’ve been camping my avatar there, trying to capture the beauty of the sim before it fades (and investing as much as I can into Balderdash trees!). There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Well, when it comes to suicide, many times prevention is everything because there is no cure after death. Today is Suicide Prevention Day around the world and I wanted to take a moment to highlight a group in Second Life® that is doing their best to support people who are contemplating or have attempted suicide by connecting them to real world therapy and resources as well as providing information and support in-world. The Survivors of Suicide is a group of about 400 people who maintain an information center and informal drop-in center with group support meetings on Sundays and Mondays.
As you can see there is a lot of information. I dropped in to look around and there’s a room for folks to hang out, a game room and even a little shop to raise money to support the group’s land fees, etc. There were about a half dozen folks hanging out, all very friendly and welcoming even though I was just stopping by for a peek for the blog. I suppose we all know someone who has committed suicide. It has happened in my family. One brother-in-law shot himself when he became so sick with cancer, emphysema and cirrhosis that he could not live with it any more. Another brother-in-law drowned himself when the umpteenth different drug trial failed to treat his depression and his insurance company informed him that he has reached his lifetime maximum benefit and he would no longer be covered by insurance for anything. That is a cruelty of the health care system that will be eliminated by Obamacare on January 1st. The aftermath of suicide is a horrible trauma for families, one that is not really eased that much by understanding the motives and decisions. So this group is doing important work. You should check them out and be aware of what to look for and how to help family and friends who are in despair.

Gidge was so busy all weekend, COLLABOR88 plus the Arcade plus yard sales plus the normal blogger girl stuff, shopping, standing on a pose stand, shopping, standing on a pose stand, a wee bit of entertaining, well, she got tired and passed out in her new bed. I got this one at a yard sale and it’s cute, it’s at THE ARCADE. I’m not entire sure it’s me, but it’s a fun prop. Continue reading
I feel a bit like the Lorax today. One of my favorite sim-builders and tree-makers is contemplating closing up her in-world (extremely beautiful) sim after October, and the idea of it hurts my heart. I’m walking in some of her woods here (you can buy it as a nice big low-prim chunk) — the woods are called Saiygewood, and they are sold at Balderdash on Oubliette.
Nature, oddly enough, is what drew me to Second Life. I started an account with a vision in my head — I wanted most to recreate the mental place that I go to while I meditate. It’s an outside space surrounded by trees; an ancient stone circle under the clear sky. I’ve created this once or twice in various Second Life abodes, and each time, I’ve used Saiyge’s trees to give life to my dream.
I’m going to be living in Balderdash on and on for the next few weeks just to soak up the lovely ambience before it fades. I feel like an Elf in Rivendell right before the end of the fourth age. If you want me, I’ll be walking in the trees.
