Years and years and years ago, Billy Strayhorn wrote an amazing song that has been performed by John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald and Queen Latifah, Natalie and Nat King Cole and now – the Nat King Cole version has been re-engineered by Cee-lo Green. The title is Lush Life – though the lyrics are really quite sad and cynical.
I’ll live a lush life in some small dive…
But, despite the cynicism of the lyrics, the romanticism and lush beauty of the melody makes this song truly one of the great classics and a song that comes to mind when I see some truly extraordinary gown that is rich and lush with color and pattern and life – as is this Noell gown from LeeZu.
Perhaps it’s because it might be the song sung by the chanteuse on the stage at some romantic club.
The gown is a riot of sculpted prims that cluster around the body like grapes on the vine. The pattern is sheer enough to shimmer and shift with the light.
I wanted lush gloves to wear with it and so I entered Gloves in search and tried on several different pairs that came with different ball gowns before choosing this one from Designing Nicky Ree’s Barbara gown for its gorgeous depth and pearlescent color.
Jewelry AND hair are a set from RozoRegalia called Vanitas. The set has two hair picks to choose from and the hair is made to fit the picks perfectly. The jewelry is color-change and has many options including purple and lilac. The jewelry also emits particles and sounds and thankfully those options can be turned firmly OFF.
Now, that jewelry is amazing. However, I don’t think it’s conducive to close embraces on the dance floor. It will certainly help keep your chin up. The chin…and the rest of the makeup.. is from Chaisuki. There are more photos in the Flickr set, including a closer shot of the makeup.

Lush indeed! The first thing that came to mind when I read this was Rosemary Clooney performing at a club in White Christmas, one of my all-time favorite movies with a show-business theme. There are surely others that it could go with. Thanks so much, Cajsa!
