A Quick Trip to Greenland

Curiosity that inborn property of man, daughter of ignorance and mother of knowledge when wonder wakens our minds, has the habit, wherever it sees some extraordinary phenomenon of nature, a comet for example, a sun-dog, or a midday star, of asking straigh

I stopped by Groenland today for a short visit. Most of the mass of Greenland is ice, but not on this sim. I guess it’s in one of the areas where the ice has been melting. It reminded me of “Rotten Ice” an excellent article in Harpers by Gretel Ehrlich. It seemed appropriate during the cold snap affecting much of America which prompted the popular-vote-losing President to show he does not know the difference between climate and weather. Sadly, far too many politicians don’t know the difference or they pretend not to know. Sometimes it’s hard to believe they are that ignorant, then I listen to Louis Gohmert and realize there’s no such thing as not too ignorant.

Great Minds and All That

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always
It cracks me up that Gidge was attracted to the same dress from Ambrosia at the Kurenai event. Not identical, though since she chose pink and I chose green which is kind of automatic for us if you think about it. I love the frilly romanticism that goes so over the top it becomes exactly right. Kind of like camp, if you do it, you can’t do just a little.

I have no explanation for why there are baby seals on my platform. They are far above any source of water but they appeared, they were cute, I let them stay, and so here they are. They were made my MishMash, can be found at Collabor88, and they are too cute to care if they have no rationale for being here.

Tangled Up in Christmas

Keep Portland Weird

Christmas tree decorating in real life has always been a journey from joyful camaraderie to aggrieved frustration and back again. My family decorated a 17-foot tree and I decorated to top from the balcony off my bedroom while Mom and Dad decorated from below. This would not be so difficult, really, except Mom would get exercised if two ornaments of similar color were in proximity. It’s not that there were identical decorations since there were so many different ornaments, but a pink vintage ornament next to a pink modern ornament was not okay. The tinsel had to be individually draped placed, no tossing! But in the end it was always fun after the defective bulbs were identified and replaced, the tinsel evenly balanced, and the colors distributed with the precision of a drill team.

Keep Portland Weird

When I moved to Oregon, I had the brilliant idea of getting my own tree and chose the aromatic Western Red Cedar. It was beautiful! Until I tried to put an ornament on it, then the branch sagged and the ornament slid off. It had no oomph! I had to tie every ornament on the tree. A lot of work, but it sure did smell great. This tree from moss&mink at The Arcade was so much easier. Now if I could just rez it in my real life living room.

Impervious to Cold

The season of cold impervious avatars has begun

Every holiday season I am amused by our avatar’s seeming imperviousness to cold. We rush about with open-toed shoes and barely there dresses in the snow and ice and not one of us feels a bit of cold. This gorgeous dress by Cynful for Collabor88 would be all covered up by a heavy coat in the real world.

The days of winter sunshine

“This winter, there will be no voices, no glimpses, no arms. only the fabric of poetry, to keep me warm.”

“Are the days of winter sunshine just as sad for you, too? When it is misty, in the evenings, and I am out walking by myself, it seems to me that the rain is falling through my heart and causing it to crumble into ruins.”

Tick, Tock. Arcade O’Clock.

Tick, Tock, It's Soon Arcade O'Clock
The Arcade opens in just over three hours. December if my favorite month for The Arcade. The holidays seems to inspire such whimsy and grace. Also, since everything is No Copy for trading, it’s a great place to buy gifts. My outfit comes from Collabor88 items (except the fun candycane tights that were a Christmas gift from Alaska Metro last year. Sorry, I am an evil blogger, but not totally evil, they are on marketplace.

And the World Turns Round and Round

Snapshot_002

So today has been an emotional one. A year ago today my sister died after a long battle with cancer. Today, her granddaughter brought her first great-grandchild – an entirely new generation – into the world. Isn’t that magical? She was due last week, but she waited several days to arrive on the most perfect day she could. So forgive me for not describing much, it’s hard to see the screen through tears, though they are more happy ones than sad ones.

Halloween Horror

Well this place came up first in SEARCH and I was seeking a spooky Halloween moment so I decided to go check it out.

It’s pretty spooky and if you are in search of a spooky place to shoot I highly recommend it.

There was a lot to see, just not a lot to do.

That’s not an indictment however, like I said it’s a GREAT place to shoot.

If you are in search of some spooky location to shoot or just visit for fun, pop over to Halloween Horror. They really put some work into making it spooky.

There is a box at the TP and it says you can get a hud for a hunt. I couldn’t make it work, too much lag. Oh well!
