It’s fall and that means that plaid is in bloom. While nothing prevents us from wearing plaid in the spring and summer and nothing prevents us from having plaid cottons, taffetas, silks and organzas, we still most often see plaid in rich, cozy wools perfect for cool, crisp autumn days. This plaid skirt and cowl sweater are from Shai Delacroix. I remember in 2008, my friends and I would make weekly pilgramages to Casa del Shai to see if and what she may have released. She took a bit of a sabbatical for a bit, but since her return she has been releasing all sorts of new and wonderful mesh with a focus on great separates for everyday wear.

Portrait of the Artist

The Reach Sketchbook set comes with 9 sits, 3 stands and 1 sequence for the model. when you choose an option, the sketch on the easel changes to reflect your new pose. You can also get a copy of the sketch to hang on your wall.
I found this amazing furniture at ReAct the other day, a lounge with an artist’s easel and chair. I asked Gogo if she new any artists who might be interested in sketching my portrait and she suggested Spyder Silverfall. Sure enough, he was willing to do my portrait, so I posed for him. As you can see, the sketch progressed quickly.
While he was sketching, I snuck a snap of him. He was quite fashionable in his black shirt and pants with the kneepads. His hair was styled by Tableau Vivant and is a good look on him . Continue reading
Designer Download — Sasy Scarborough

Sasy Scarborough is familiar to nearly everyone involved in fashion in Second Life®. She worked for years as a customer service representative for many of the biggest brands in SL. She is also one of the “old guard” bloggers with her Sasypants blog. Her experience has made her a role model for many other bloggers. As lead organizer for Hair Fair, she is the heart, soul, lungs and lifeblood of that event. She also runs a shopping sim called The Deck and a bi-monthy shopping event called My Attic. In addition, she has her own business selling her Slink applicator items, primarily nails as well as a pose/pose set business with Whimsy Winx. And with all that, she still has time to have fun and socialize and make the most of her Second Life.
It’s Only Fashion: What was your first day in Second Life like? What made you stick it out through the learning curve?
Sasy Scarborough: My first day in Second Life was amazing, I was taken in hand by a friend who introduced me to it, and he had four girls waiting at the gate with him. They took me to all the free places like Free Dove, and Pazazz Hair and thirty minutes later I was denoobed.
They then took me to Transylvania, the sim that was just incredible back then, and we danced, which was the main reason I wanted to join Second Life, because I had seen him salsa on shared screen. There was a huge market event on at Transylvania that weekend, and I complimented a vendor on her items, and she whisked me away and got me to model for her for a goth school girl outfit…she then gave me the outfit and years later I was still on her wall in her store.
I found Second Life just full of possibilities so learning everything was worth it. Continue reading
CAI as in Cairo, Zha as in Asia
There is no greater thrill for a fashionista than to have some design named after them. If you have a name many folks don’t know how to pronounce, it’s even more thrilling because it doesn’t happen very often. So, yes! I was thrilled when Thalia Heckroth named her newest gown in my honor. I was even more thrilled though, seeing it’s modern lines and minimalist style.
Designer Download — Thalia Heckroth

Thalia Heckroth is probably more familiar to fashionistas for her blogging and extraordinary photography and videos. She is one of the photographers who has experimented and pushed the boundaries of Second Life® photography and video by exploiting the lighting and other settings to their fullest. She recently turned her talents to clothing design, launching a new and successful brand that specializes in minimalist modern classics.
It’s Only Fashion: What was your first day in Second Life like? What made you stick it out through the learning curve?
Thalia Heckroth: The first day I landed in Orientation Island and felt immediately at ease. I didn’t experience a learning curve for anything other than wearing shoes. I deleted the shoe bases for a while until a good friend of mine told me shoes were useless without it. LOL.
The Colors of Fall
Autumn has been painting its palette all across Second Life for the past month. I stopped by Izzie’s because it is always one of the most beautiful seasonal sims and sure enough, Izzie’s portrait of autumn is beautiful. In fact, it’s so lovely, I decided to use a paint filter on one of my snaps to turn it into a painting. If you stop by Izzie’s, don’t touch the kitty, she is shy.

It’s Only Art #8
With Halloween coming, scary pictures are starting to take over Flickr and there are several in this week’s gallery of my favorites. They aren’t all scary though. There are also pictures celebrating the seasons of Second Life, the fashions, the quirkiness as well as some that are just slices of life.
Candela Kira’s Kayako is inspired by Kayako Saeki from the movie Ju-On and The Grudge. I have not seen either one, but I assume they are terrifying as is this wonderfully scary picture. There is a lot of artistry at work making this such a scary picture. As you can see, she used the Rule of Thirds to put the focus on that outstretched hand. By centering her subject in the long hallway, the natural lines of the architecture create sight lines leading to her subject. She also used any eye control HUD to cross her eyes, giving them a spooky intensity. I don’t know if that hand is available in SL or a morph, but if it is a morph, it is the most successful one I have seen. It is out of focus, making its reach for you even more frightening because it adds depth and motion. This is a great photo that does exactly what she wants it to do. I was startled when it came on my stream – a small jolt of fear. What more can you ask for? Continue reading
Would you update your viewer in the middle of a photo shoot?
Normally my answer would be “Hell to the No” but when I was shooting these pictures today, I figured it could not possible get worse and might get better. So when I saw there was a new update, I went for it. I have not been able to save a photo to disk since Monday and was saving raw shots directly from the SL viewer to Flickr. The photos for this post are raw, unedited pictures. They have not even been cropped. I know Flickr has a photo editor, but I don’t like it. Still, it turns out fine. I just like to play with a few little touch ups now and then. I am wearing a fun and adorable sailor sweater and flared skirt from MotiAme that I found at Kustom9 when I dropped by to throw money at Apple Fall, as one does. The sweater comes in gray, brown, blue, black, red and white. The skirt is in black, white and blue. They fit together well and have a lovely early fall feeling – for those days with brisk breezes, a bit of mist in the air and moments of sunshine. October in Oregon.

Crashy McCrasherton
So I have been crashing every single time I saved a picture to disk for the last two days, perhaps some new incompatibility arose from upgrading my OS to Yosemite. I will have to figure it out soon, but I didn’t feel like trouble shooting today, so I just save the photos direct to Flickr®. That means these are truly raw photos, not even cropped. I just set the size of the frame inworld and clicked until I got the shot I wanted and so what you see is what you get. As to why it crashes saving to disk but not to Flickr, those are the mysteries of computers and graphics cards and code.
Vintage Is Cool or I Saw My First Flasher at the Vintage Store
I have always like vintage clothing, particular that from the 40s and 50s when clothing was structured and fitted with sophisticated glamour the aesthetic goal designers had in mind. The Vintage and Cool event currently going on seems made for me. People were coming out of the austerity of the Thirties and the World War and the expanding economy and growing middle class allowed for a real explosion of fashion. This lovely dress from AVALE fits firmly in that tradition.
