I do not move houses very often in Second Life® or in real life. It is just too much work. However, when the Brooklyn Carriage House came out at Collabor88 last month, I could not resist its bright red doors and fine brickwork. I finally have everything arranged, but will be moving shortly. I thought I would share before I pack it all up. I love the house and how it looks, but I guess my four year old computer really cannot handle such an open floor plan where everything fezzes all the time. I need rooms and walls that limit the textures my computer has to handle, so I will be on my way to a more traditional space. That is totally a reflection of my computer’s age and is no criticism of the house – which is gorgeous, very, very gorgeous.
My outdoor decor is pretty limited, just a few shrubs and bushes from We’re Closed, a couple trees and the gorgeous deck from Lark that was released at The Liaison Collaborative a few month’s back.

The kitchen is colorful with Trompe L’Oeil’s lovely retro kitchen and a bold set of tables and chairs from LOZ-Meshworx. The Apple Fall rug is color change and this option is such a perfect complement to the Trompe L’oeil dresser I am using to store tablecloths, towels, dishcloths and other kitchen linens.

I like colorful and eclectic pieces, a mix of modern and retro and even a bit of shabby chic. I do not like having only one style dominate the decor because that makes it look too planned and decorated out of a box instead of looking like a home put together piece by piece over time. Of course, we often do buy sets of furnishings, but usually not everything at once, so I like to make it look as though it developed organically over time. For example, the gas pump shelves are a recent purchase – from The Liaison Collaborative this month while the Second Spaces Mininouveau art cutouts are from several months ago. Likewise the Apple Fall clock is new, but has the same Scandinavian inspirations source for the painting as in the Second Spaces cutouts.

The living room is where the eclecticism and the long run of adding bit by bit is most evident. The couch and chair are well over a year old, The LeeZu prints are from The Arcade in March, I think, or December. There’s Ball Joint Dolls and fossils, old bits of classical architectural details from Apple Fall with hyper modern pieces like the black and white table from DB.

I also think your home should reveal your interests and passions. In my real home, I have a lot of art, though about 2/3rd of it is in storage because my current apartment is too small. One of my favorite pieces is Charles Minard’s 1869 chart of Napoleon’s Russian Campaign. I also have modern pieces, some folk art and vintage advertising art and many botanical prints. To capture that idea of a home reflecting your passions I collected several pictures of clock faces and placed them in Barnesworth Anubis’ wonderful frames. I also have over time collected several clocks that hang on the wall with the pictures of clocks.
Apple Fall Artists Desk and Shelves, Pilot Desk Chair, Art Supplies, Miscellany and Computer all from Tres Blah Workspace set for The Arcade September, Apple Fall heart of pictures and sideboard, Zaara rug, KittyCats cat, and Fashionably Dead Cat in Box from Arcade September
Everybody needs a work space and it’s okay if it’s messy. This one sure is. It’s snugged under the stairs and uses pieces from Apple Fall and Tres Blah with a chair from Pilot and a rug from Zaara. Not too neat, not a complete disaster area. Most of the oddments on the desk are from Tres Blah’s lovely workstation collection at Arcade this month.
