The Soda Pop Dress from Deco for April’s Collabor88 reminded me of the ancient cultural struggle between those who say Soda and those who say Pop and the outliers who say Coke. It’s a conflict that has been mapped and researched and will probably continue long after we all are gone. DECO’s designer sidestepped the controversy by called the dress the Soda Pop dress, showing a keen instinct for diplomacy.
The dress is a wonderful retro polka-dot dress with a natural waistline accented by a 4 rows of plain ribbon. The desaturated colors of the dress add to the vintage feeling. The real drama happens down the back which is buttoned by a row of bottle caps, an iconic form of American kitsch art. It comes in bluejay, cherry, coffee, licorice, pistachio and storm. Only one of those colors is a pop flavor!
The new Celine pumps released by Kunglers, depending on what they are paired with, have that same sensibility.
The Dura updo is technically menswear, but that does not make me nervous. It’s a casual, sophisticate style and sure to be a winner on men and women. My plastic crown was a party gift from Gidge for my set last night. It’s from LaViere and ever which kind of adorable.
The skin is Belleza’s new release Mya and the jewelry is from Yummy for Collabor88. All in all, today’s outfit was about fun and it was.
