So I went to Elephant Walk to shoot this flamboyantly floral Floralie gown from A La Folie for IFW10 thinking I would perch by the peacock and snap while he walks by with this tail flourished as the train is flourished on the dress. Well, he did walk by, I snapped, but after 45 minutes and dozens of refreshed failed snaps, I have to confess that I was out outwitted, outplayed and outlasted by a pixel peacock. Yes, I finished the shoot with out the flouishes² and left the island. The peacock is the sole survivor (well with miscellaneous toucans, wild felines, monkeys and other wildlife.
Now he’s just gloating! But let’s look at the dress instead. I love the fabric with it’s fantastical florals and the huge lace ruffles on the skirt and train. With the discipline that makes her extravagant creations work, the bodice is quite simple. It’s that discipline that is really the hallmark of Pixivor Allen’s designs for A La Folie. At first glance, you will see wild exuberant explosions of flowers, lace, silk and satin, ruffles and furbelows, but then you realize that in her expert hands, they are constrained and formed into a coherent and singular look that in the hands of 9 out of 10 designers would be overdone romanticist kitsch. She stops short of that line every time.
I added gloves from 5th & Oxford and jewelry from Kunglers – the Orquidea set. Orchids love roses and vice versa.
The skin is Tuli’s special edition of Gina for The Dressing Room. The hair is from MiaMai – one of her ingenious hairbase with updo combinations. And there’s that damn peacock again!
