500 Festival Weekend

yeah I know that road texture is a mess. it would not clean up. whatever.

If you’ve been around a while you’ll know that one of the dearest things in my heart is the 500 Festival Weekend which is of course the days leading up to and including the INDY-FUCKING-FIVE-HUNDRED. The greatest spectacle in Motor Racing.

The Indy 500 is special to me for so many reasons. I’m FROM Indianapolis. It was something I’d do with my dad, he introduced me to the race, the joy of getting to watch qualifications from the suites (free food and booze yo) and the excitement of hearing the unique sound that only IndyCars make.

My dad was introduced to the Race as a young man, and was there the year Parnelli Jones won in the so called WHOOSH mobile – a car that made a woosh rather than a specific IndyCar scream when it went by. It looked a lot like #18 behind me there.

I might go buy #18.

I remember going to the race several times with my dad – and then later I went with my friends and engaged in the Bacchanalia that I had not been aware of when I was with a parent. You might not have been before, but let me tell you, the Indy 500 is a nonstop fucking PARTY from Thursday to Monday.

God help you if you have to work Tuesday. (Just take it off. We all took it off).

Two days before my dad died, he said his last words.

His last words ?

“Parnelli Jones.”

WOOOOOOSH.

I love the Indy-Fucking-Five-Hundred. Let’s have a great weekend.

I spent the weekend lounging on the boat with my friend Aliana, the dogs and of course, Mr Man who has some serious opinions let me tell you what. It’s kind of nice sometimes to have nothing to do and all day to do it. I don’t miss the days when my time on the grid was spent rushing to meet deadlines and blogging requirements.

It became not fun. And because it became not fun, I began to dread it.

And now that I’m back, albeit intermittently, I definitely find that I love everything more. Because now it’s on my terms and that makes me more invested in everything. It’s a freedom I lost, and won’t trade again.

Weekends on the house boat, wearing what I want, when I want? It may not be a perfect Second Life,but it’s entirely of my making. And there is no price tag on that.

Aliana, t hough, just wishes I would shut up and stop pontificating so we can go swim in the ocean.

She’s got a point.

Every once in a while I will get super ambitious and shoot ahead like I’m a young, super enthusiastic blogger who is planning ahead. My enthusiasm is usually crushed by my typists real life and then I’m stuck spinning my wheels around my little island home, decorating and playing my my pets. Oh girls. I hoofed it across the expanse of the Hair Fair, walking into EACH AND EVERY booth and I’ve got to tell you, it’s just AMAZING this year.

I demo’d more than I’ve probably ever demo’d – in my pre “mesh head” life I never bothered, but I DO encourage it greatly now as some folks might not make to fit YOUR head and then you’ll be hosed. I highly recommend – if you have not done so, join the DEMO group where all the lovely designers send the demos!

My presents are wrapped, mostly. I think I’m done. I hope I’m done. I have new GORGEOUS gift boxes from Alouette if you’re looking for some. I get annoyed when I still see gift boxes that are like 20 prims. Really? These are awesome and low land impact for your decorating pleasure. I prefer to put my gifts under the tree and I got a script from Artizan for delivery, it only will give each box to the person I designate. Ziezo, the elegant ballgown recently released by Sascha’s Designs is a beautiful example of the basic truth that the wearing o’ the green can be elegant.  I enjoy a fun tacky party as much as the next girl, but if you events calendar features more dressy soirees – there is hope!

This gown is available in a rainbow of deep hued jewel tones but the green is super elegant and totally holiday appropriate.

I’m ready. Who has my green beer? (I didn’t say to dismiss EVERYTHING that was tacky)
