W.H. Auden wrote in his collection of prose essays, The Dyer’s Hand, ““Every man carries within him through life a mirror, as unique and impossible to get rid of as his shadow.” Then he went on to suggest a good parlor game would be to look at different people and imagine the kinds of mirrors they might be carrying. One might be carrying a gilt baroque hand mirror, another a small compact mirror in a leather case, each of them, carrying mirrors that by design and dimension reveal their character.
I don’t know want my unique mirror would look like. I have one mirror that I purchased that goes over my dresser. It’s huge and heavy and requires two people to shift, framed in a beautiful dark cherry but free of ornamentation or embellishments. That is the kind of mirror I chose to buy, but does it reveal anything about me other than I dislike dusting? I don’t know.
Thalia Heckroth’s latest release is this dress called Francesca. It is a gorgeous dress that reflects her aesthetic perfectly, minimalist with restrained design details that are deceptively simple. The black illusion bodice and sleeves would feel dated if not for the curved leather yoke that makes it completely modern. Seams and darts tailor the dress so that it sleekly skims the body, revelatory but restrained. The dress is made for Maitreya mesh bodies, with the clever little script that selects the alphas automatically, so it is easy to wear. The only flaw I could see is that in come extreme poses, there is a bit of exposed skin in the underarms.
I am wearing the Mary pumps from Garbaggio for The Arcade. It’s a rare item in more than one way. I was incredibly excited by these pumps once I understood what was so special about them. Unlike other pumps for mesh feet, there was only one shoe. When I put the shoes on, they did not fit. Their default fit is Slink but I happened to be wearing Maitreya. But then I put on the HUD and clicked on the Maitreya logo and the shoes shifted to fit. I am so excited by this because imagine our inventories if instead of having to save multiple versions of the same shoe, we could just choose the fit with a HUD. Add to that that the color wheel of color options for these shoes is insanely generous. Technically, they could be the only pair of dress shoes anyone would need. Of course, they won’t replace my shoe wardrobe because for fashionistas, shoes are not about need.
The dress was so elegant that I decided to add a hat. This one from Couture Chapeau seemed to hit the spot perfectly.
I also chose Miss G jewelry from Donna Flora. Tomorrow it will be two years since she died and she has been on my mind lately. I miss her.
Some mirrors distort our reflections, magnifying our flaws or our virtues. I thought this gave a better look at the hat. The skin is from League, a beautiful applier for Lelutka’s Mesh heads.
